Since I predicted exactly when, how and why Gonzales would resign two weeks ago (as you can see in the video below), I'd have to vote for Wilson's alleged suicide attempt. That one I didn't see coming at all.
I often times think I am too much of an ass for bragging about my correct predictions. But I have been too right for too long to be able to resist (see, I know I'm being an ass by saying that even if I am 3/4 tongue in cheek about it).
Anyway, here's our celebration of Gonzales's departure on Monday's show -- and the August 13the clip where I told you this was coming and why:
Now, on to Owen Wilson. Some You Tubers have accused us of treating this story too lightly. But I stand by our "analysis." Don't commit suicide when you're on top of the world. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or a legendary prognosticator like myself to figure that out. I honestly don't understand what people are getting all riled up about. And as I say in the video below, my heart goes out to him. We hope he gets better. We're just saying don't do it, because even considering suicide is nuts in a situation like his (let alone most situations).

1. yo, being on "top" of the world could be a reason for owen's drastic decision. maybe not. people that appear to have everything going for them do not necessarily have it all! you treated the non-event flippantly. rather you not made mention of this at all than to have you come up with more of your snobbishly snide remarks. a person's intimate world is not fodder for every joe blow's two cents worth. you guys have more than enough stuff to keep your tongues wagging, ok. stick your noses in politix where they belong.not in other people's
business where they don't belong.

2. I have to say boredwell makes a good argument. Have some compassion, please. It breaks my heart about Owen. I don't believe it is our place to judge. We hear talk about wanting world peace in the world, justice, love, etc. Lets start with loving our neighbor and our enemy.

3. I think the idea of linking these two events in any way is really shallow. What is this grade school?

4. Agree the subject line is little flippant. Alberto is resigning, but what happens next with Owen is a big TBD. Hopefully will work out for the best. Good reminder for every suicidal person on top of the world, there are probably a ton who are not.

5. So the Young Turd thinks he's clairvoyant? Stevie Wonder saw Gonzales' resignation coming. Give me tomorrow's lotto numbers if you want to do something constructive, you pimple on the azz of society.

6. Mental illness is a disease. Those who suffer from it no more choose to do so than the victims of leukemia. Your comment was worse than flippant and insensitive -- it was dumb dumb DUMB.

7. Owen Wilson must have come to the realization that he got to the top with no talent, just like his brother, and sees he has no other way but down.
He sure ain't gonna 'act' his way to more success.
mateo cruz at 9:43AM on Aug 28th 2007
8. Your right Mateo Cruz, no talent at all... I guess he must have made it to the top with his stunning good looks (haha). Personally, I think Owen Wilson is a very talented and funny actor. The fact that he hasn't changed his appearance to fit in with America's idea of the perfect look makes me respect him even more. O, and he is a way better actor than his brother.

9. Alberto Gonzales resignation was honorable and without rancor. Alberto expressed thankfulness for tenture in public service and honored his humble beginnings.
Alan Klaus at 12:42PM on Aug 28th 2007
10. What Gonzales and Wilson have in common is that neither of them have any talent. Gonzales has no business being America's top cop, and Wilson plays the same lazy, egocentric character in every movie he makes.

11. Celebrity suicides....take some pills or cut yourself "superficially" and make sure people know...seems to me Owen wanted attention...

12. Who's Owen Wilson ? Is he somebody important and I missed it ?
Bob at 12:53PM on Aug 28th 2007
13. Mental illness is as serious and deadly as cancer. Your attitude is not only callous it shows just how ignorant and arrogant you are. I hope you never have to face depression or another mental illness. It is truly hell on earth. But then again maybe that's what it will take to open your eyes. Gotta watch that karma.
Skylar at 12:10PM on Aug 28th 2007
14. Amen Sklyar!
Suicide attempts should be treated as an extension of mental illness.
When people say, it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem, many times it's a problem that's gone on for much of a lifetime.
Just as a recovering alcoholic wonders if they'll take another drink, those who have attempted suicide wonder if they'll get back to the place where it seems there's no other answer. You put anyone in a perfect storm of all kinds of loss, and you'll see how it can appear the only way.
PamU2Home at 12:54PM on Aug 28th 2007
15. No amount of wealth and fame can protect a person from deep sadness and feelings of hopelessness. Depression and suicide cut across all socio-economic strata.
I am so sorry that he is suffering and I'm sending my prayers his way. It's good to know that he has such a loving family to support him.
