Republican senator Larry Craig of Idaho has quit the Romney campaign after the revelation surfaced that he was arrested in June for allegedly propositioning a plainclothes cop for sex in an airport men's room known for sexual activity. Roll Call quotes the arrest report: "At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct.
Craig, who is married, is now doing all kinds of backtracking and trying to defend his guilty plea on his website, but the damage is pretty much done. A YouTube video of Craig praising Romney's "family values" has been yanked.
On one hand, you have to pity a public figure so desperate that he'll recklessly endanger his whole political career and his colleagues' for a Minneapolis bathroom quickie.
And yet, Andrew Sullivan writes, "My sympathy vanishes when it comes to people who support amending the Constitution to ban gay marriage, as Craig did."
Which is a good point. So all that's left to feel is glee that such base hypocrisy has come to light.

32. Here we go again, another left wing, hating lib, jumping the gun with "her" holier than thou attitude...i thought a man was cosidered innocent until "proven" guilty? Silly twit.

33. Pam and Maya,
Governor McGreevy was wrong to do what he did, fair enough...and as you remember, he stepped down immediately from the Governship.
Should Sen. Craig do the same, or does your rule only apply to Democrats. If you read the police report, it is incredibly damning and detailed. As the story unfolds, Sen. Craig has had a pattern of rumors over the years about his having sex with men. It is the hypcorisy that is the issue..Sen. Craig consistently condemned homosexuality.
By the way, Gov. McGreevy signed the civil unions bill for gay people into law in New Jersey while he was in office. At least he did not preach hatred of gay people...and he admitted being a gay American. Don't hold your breath Sen. Craig will do the same...

34. If they would have stayed in the closet we wouldnt have to be putting up with this bulls--t. Thanks to the left wing, anything goes attitude of so many in this country we have lowered our moral standards to this debate. Its a pox on our country for encouraging this type of behavior.

40. Karen # 36 -
What earth are you on? Have you been watching the news?
Sen. Craig pleaded GUILTY in August to a crime he was charged with in June. Maybe you should check YOUR facts, my dear.
Not only that, but the guy does not even tell his WIFE about it? Give me a break...if you think this Senator is being honest, you are simply blinded by party politics.
Hell, the guy who runs the Christian Broadcasting Network was on TV earlier saying HE did not believe the Senator.
But as long as you do, Karen.

43. People wouldn't hide being gay if our "fellow" countrymen would drop the hatred and fear and just accept that some people have a different orientation. Special rights? The GAO list over 1000 rights available to straight folks, denied to gays. And the President vows to veto ENDA which would end firing working people just because they are gay. So very sad ahd so very unneccessary

44. These stories of corruption and absolutely unethical behavior really troubles me. These are the people who told Christians across the country what a bad guy Bill Clinton was? Then they run a guy like Bush, behave like depraved scum and want you to vote for them again? Seriously, how do they sleep at night?

45. I am thrilled that another homophobe was found in a bathroom. I am especially thrilled that it is a republican. God has his own way of finding justice. And I am not even religious :)
