ABC Anchors Laugh at Owen Wilson Suicide Attempt
In their report on Owen Wilson's suicide attempt, ABC's World News Now anchors Taina Hernandez and Ryan Owens couldn't stop giggling. The word "depression" made Hernandez especially giddy. Oh, it's probably just how some people involuntarily laugh at funerals, we thought at first. But no: watch the whole video to see the far-less-classy reason for their delirium. Then check out their "apology" here. Funny, we drink a lot of coffee too, but it never turned us into a five-year-old.

16. ABC World News you should fire them both. I would think Owen Wilson's people will be all on it. I will make sure not to watch them ever.

17. In a situation like this, in which the news matter is serious, she should of been professional and not laugh. It almost sounds as if she dated him and was angry at him in revenge and was now laughing...who knows. Regardless....her bahavior was very unprofessional regarding this subject matter and she should be corrected for this. Imagine how Owen's family feels? Karma will be paying her a visit if anything.

19. How can anyone with an ounce of compassion laugh at another person's suicide attempt?
And for those who say, oh, its just a spoiled rich kid, suicide knows no economic boundaries.
Try living with depression for years and you'll see how frigging un-comical it is.
Fire both of them!!!!!

20. Yes, this is the Land of the Free, which entitles all of us to comment and let the entire world know our views regarding whatever and however personal the topic of discussion may be is to me -wholly and totally unfortunately to the private lives of WE Americans even if everyone doesn't realize this. Somehow the Bill of Rights should be changed to respect individual privacy -public figure or not. For goodness and grief sake so many have fought and died for us to be able just to speak our mind but so few consider the entirety of the consequences of being able to do so... such as bringing the rest of the world to it's feet in laughter as we show them we really don't care about our "neighbors" and have nothing else better to do than to criticize and make fun of our fellow people - in the spotlight or out.
These particular "reporters" and all of you who find fault or funny with Owen or his family and similar totally human, imperfect situations pertaining to others should totally fetch a grip on reality. Sure LIFE is funny, but not ALL of LIFE is FUNNY and certainly, those of YOU who find pun at situations like this and the like would not be so enthusiastic if the tables were turned and it was YOU everyone was "speaking their minds" about. Somewhere, somehow when it comes to PERSONAL, PRIVATE, and SERIOUS matters of EVERYone's lives -America should have written in Federal Law and in moral ipso facto that it is off limits without the person of subjects consent to joke around with matters pertaining to human faults and/or mishaps and be able to verbally or literally publish these delirious opinions.
The Media and most of the US public have gone way too far with just joking around in voicing opinions that however have the unfortunate legal right to be spoken BUT, certainly ALL of you REALLY DO have much better things to talk about and actually fix, and if some of you think you don't - THINK AGAIN. May YOU never be in a situation of spotlight - Your glass house will get shattered and that will be just what you deserved.
To make my point clear - I'm not talking or stating taking away stand-up, nighttime prime-time comedians, or am I saying that "Enquirer" -ing minds should be done away with, I'm specifically opinionating that all comedy done at someone's expense should be curbed a bit or request and pay for the rights, that's all, even if it's done without malice.

21. Get over it, the news people were laughing at the name of Owen's uncle. Big deal. It was part of the stories side line. Owen has some demons. He will get help and move on hopefully. He has everything going for him except reality. May be he can find it soon.

22. I am facsinated that people seem to care for someone that they don't know, have had no personal contact with, and will never recieve one bit of
emotional exchange with. It would seem to me that Owen Wilson has mor than enough resources to get help for himself. Wether you weep or sniffle over his situation does not change anything. The public at large has no impact on his mental health. Why not get close to the people who really count in your life. That could make a difference.

23. Freddie Prinze killed himself because a woman left him, too. Some men simply don't feel that life is worth living after rejection by 'the perfect woman' for them.
Money is no protection against that kind of heartbreak - if money bought happiness there wouldn't be any expensive psychiatrists or rehabs!
I used to watch Taina every night. Never again. She should be fired.

What a pathetic excuse for a human being you are. Remember one thing...karma really is a bitch!

25. I think it is unprofessional of these two to make this a laughing matter. Would it be funny if it were one of there family members. They need to be reprimanded. They have no morals and no compassion.
steph at 2:26PM on Sep 4th 2007
26. I think this was way overdone. Sometimes things like this happen. One thing can make you laugh and you can't stop laughing no matter what subject comes up. These people aren't perfect, they made a mistake and apologized for it. Move on.

27. Fire 'em, this is disgusting.

28. These two are way out of line. When I want my news to be funny, I will turn on Saturday Night Live.
How immature can they be??
Denise at 2:55PM on Sep 4th 2007
29. Their behavior and actions are entirely disgraceful. They show a complete lack of professionalism and respect for Mr. Wilson's current conditions and, therefore, should be displaced from their jobs. The network should also pubically apologize to Mr. Wilson and his family for allowing such disdainful commentary to be aired. It's not enough that they laugh during the report of a man who is going through a terrible ordeal but to then mock his family on air, especially when it has been noted on multiple occassions how viligant they are being toward their loved one at this time...sickening.
Dani at 2:56PM on Sep 4th 2007
30. I watched this video and didn't come off with the impression that they were laughing at the fact that Mr Wilson made a suicide attempt. There had been something going on previous to this story that apparantly was light hearted and they mentioned the fact that Mr. Wilson was related to someone whose name was Hoe which Ryan Owens said they thought was funny.
