ABC Anchors Laugh at Owen Wilson Suicide Attempt
In their report on Owen Wilson's suicide attempt, ABC's World News Now anchors Taina Hernandez and Ryan Owens couldn't stop giggling. The word "depression" made Hernandez especially giddy. Oh, it's probably just how some people involuntarily laugh at funerals, we thought at first. But no: watch the whole video to see the far-less-classy reason for their delirium. Then check out their "apology" here. Funny, we drink a lot of coffee too, but it never turned us into a five-year-old.

31. ABC, please fire them. Please!!! These two are disgusting, stupid, unprofessional, and deserve the Irish curse (i.e., may the same thing happen to them, but may it be more than either can bear). Their incomprehensible performance represents a new low point in television news broadcasting. Common decency prevents me from saying what I REALLY think of that pair.

32. "Hoe Wilson." Naw, that wouldn't explain it- not by itself, anyway.
I got it. They're having an affair- and they just did it.

33. I now have a brand new reason why I don't watch ABC News shows. That had to be the most pathetic reporting I've ever seen. They're reporting about an attempted suicide, and all they can do is giggle about the first name of the guy's relative? Unfortunately, this is the path of TV news is leading. Since they seem to be sharing a brain cell, fire them both and save the salary for a real journalist.

34. Whatever happened to professionalism in journalism?? This clip makes me sick. I am boycotting this program until these two idiots are off it. Pain is not funny. This man is going through something terrible and who are they to laugh?

35. What do you expect from a guy whose reconstructed nose looks like the head of a penis?

36. For goodness sake, leave them alone! They are two young reporters who have to stay up all night reading the news to a bunch of insomniacs. The whole atmosphere of the show is supposed to be light and informal. Yes, they got a little carried away. But when you have to pretend that Britteny Spears and Paris Hilton are newsworthy subjects, it's easy to see the whole enterprise as a joke.

37. People can be mean, insensitive and stupid. Must be a slow news day. (yawn)

38. Lighten up! show it to Owen and I'll bet he'd be laughing too!

39. Regardless of whether the two "newscasters" found humor in the Owen Wilson situation, a certain degree of professionalism is expected from "real" news anchors. I found another clip of this same pair on YouTube, laughing away during a completely different newscast. It seems they do not take their job - an unbiased presentation of local, national, and world events - seriously. They have no business being employed by any serious news station.
Stephen Colbert, though he makes his broadcast from Comedy Central, maintains a more "serious" demeanor than either of these two twits, even during some of the most ridiculous stories. Sure, he occasionally giggles, but he generally regains his composure quickly - it's part of his spiel to present quirky stories in a serious fashion. If he can do it, especially in situations where the humor is apparent, why can't they maintain seriousness where there is no humor at all? Off the air with the both of them.

40. Shame on you for trying to make a story out of nothing. I guess your salacious and misleading headline did what it was supposed to - get me to look at your blog. I won't make that mistake again. What's the saying - fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me!

41. I believe both should be fired for being unprofessional. While Ryan and Taina say they are not laughing at the suicide attempt, what they are laughing at is no less objectionable. So they find Owen's uncle name laughable, a newscaster should be professional enough to not giggle uncontrolably at a person's name. Can they get anymore juvenile? I used to think ABC's news coverage was of a higher quality than the other major station's (CBS, NBC) but from now on I will not watch ABC's coverage.

42. Everyone is someone's brother, son, uncle ... Ms. Hernandez and Mr. Owens I hope for your sake that you never have someone you care about go through anything like what Mr. Wilson did. If you do I hope that you can find it in your heart to show some compassion and in turn be shown compassion by other people. You are two very sad people.

43. Should they be fired not up to us, should they be yelled at for being unprofessional, we all know that and someone trying to kill them self then having two news casters laugh. I'd be pissed off more.
Good job on suporting him.

44. HAHA. The man's name is Hoe?
That is too funny.
Oh wait, they laughed about something totally unrelated to the story they were covering? Then of course they should be fired, all their assets taken away and destroyed. They should be labeled enemy combatents and waterboarded until insanity takes over.
People, they are local tv personalities. if you are offended by this, switch stations.
Bendu at 9:26AM on Sep 5th 2007
45. They should lose there job. It's not far for them to stil be on tv. Its not funny to laugh at anyone how can i get the off the air.
