ABC Anchors Laugh at Owen Wilson Suicide Attempt
In their report on Owen Wilson's suicide attempt, ABC's World News Now anchors Taina Hernandez and Ryan Owens couldn't stop giggling. The word "depression" made Hernandez especially giddy. Oh, it's probably just how some people involuntarily laugh at funerals, we thought at first. But no: watch the whole video to see the far-less-classy reason for their delirium. Then check out their "apology" here. Funny, we drink a lot of coffee too, but it never turned us into a five-year-old.

46. Give me a break! Anyone citing the newscasters as overpaid obviously missed the subject. An enormously overpaid and underservedly so movie actor! Tens of millions of dollars for each mind-numbing 'you, me and duprey'. This society has become way too concerned with the lifes of entertainers. I'm sorry that you can't be happy with your millionaire and fame statuses, but you have enough cash to seek treatment if you weren't a weak drug addict! Next time some actor tries to kill themselves I hope they try harder. Enough of the rich socialites getting off easy for their repeated felonious behaviors. Wake up America! Get off the news reporters backs, if they had an uncle named 'Hoe', you'd laugh too.

47. Get real -- I watch this newscast frequently and I doubt they were laughing at Owen. In fact -- it is obvious in the piece that they weren't.

48. What is wrong with you people? After watching the video, it is OBVIOUS that they were in fact NOT laughing about the suicide attempt itself but the preceeding events which occured before the segment. All you people should find fault where there really is some and get a real life.

49. Dave Williams, what is wrong with you?
"And if you can't find the humor; albeit somewhat morbid humor, in a pathetic so-called movie star's half hearted attempt to off himself, you're the one who is disturbed."
Who would find suicide humorous? It's not a joke. So what if he's a celebrity, does that mean that he doesn't feel pain like everyone else in the world? Along with these immature newscasters, you disgust me at your sick sense of humor and lack of respect.

50. Either ther are like 14 gazillion 13 year olds posting on this subject or incredibly apathetic, immature, sad excuses for what is normally referred to as a "Human Being'.
I do not know where those two twits came up with 'Uncle Hoe', it's Uncle Joe. My daughter know's the entire Owen clan well.
Are so many of you ignorant of mental illness that 98% of the time, those of us afficted with a mental disease are not even aware of being mentally ill?
So, Scott, he should have been 'Strong' enough to seek help? If he thought he needed help I am sure he would have received it promptly. Big enough to find humour in it at 2 AM and realize it was a joke, huh? How friggin' hysterical would it have been if it was your son, brother, dad or nephew?
These so called 'news anchors', should have cut away and regained some composure before continuing.
I wonder how many Bi-Polar, schizophrenic, clinically depressed people attempted suicide after reading many of the posts you half-wits found so laughable.

Ryan at 5:29PM on Sep 5th 2007
54. you have to be kidding me all you people acting like this is the worst thing that's ever happened. this news is on at like 2 in the morning and these two always joke around. yes they shouldnt have been laughing at a subject like this, however we've all had cases of uncontrollable laughter. they apologized several times and even gave their reason for the uncontrollable laughter. i mean honestly, get over it it's not the end of the world
daniel at 1:45AM on Sep 10th 2007
55. You know.
Most people are thinking this is just horrible, how they're making fun of Owen for trying to commit suicide.
Yet all of you are making fun of Britney Spears, who is suffering in an emotional breakdown.
Ieatinfluenza at 5:17PM on Sep 5th 2007
56. Okay, Ryan, my expressing empathy for a situation which requires no humour in anyway at all, a near death situation involving a young man, we are Communists?
You and Bill O'Reilly do lunch , much?

58. Wow that seems alittle harsh rhodalee
Mike at 6:57PM on Sep 5th 2007
59. they were laughing at something else. Some kind of joke in the commercial break appartently. and the laughter seeped in to the serious story. They have apologized a few times and the explanation is understandable. No one should bee fired for a small slip up.
Joethesandwich at 8:47PM on Sep 5th 2007
60. It is so obvious that they are laughing before they even start the Owen Wilson subject. It is unbelievable that some people (most of these bloggers) are so one dimensional as to think that they are making fun of Wilson. Get a life! It is such a non subject! He is alive, it shouldn't have even been given the 30 seconds of news coverage. People are dying everyday in these streets, it is like the wild wild west out here. Cops are being targeted, college students are being murdered...worry about whether they laugh at that!
