At last night's fourth Republican debate, there were several heated moments, most involving Ron Paul, who continues to be the maverick anti-war candidate.
It was interesting to see him tangle with other politicians, particularly Mike Huckabee, and he drew a decent amount of applause, but there was one disconcerting phenomenon: every time he started to talk, one of the other candidates started to laugh.
You can hear some of it on this video montage of Paul's answers (laughter at 6:40, for example, when Chris Wallace is asking about Paul's plan to eliminate American intelligence-gathering enterprises). Who is it? Rudy Giuliani? Whoever it is, it seems disrespectful. I'm not saying this because I have a horse in this race, necessarily, but because it seems tonally so wrong.

16. Was it me or was Fox trying to set Paul up to look the fool. It seemed all his questions were made to put him on the defense.

17. Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like "America Deceived' from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great country. By the way, Ron Paul will have the LAST laugh.

18. Who cares who was laughing? Republicans better start being more concerned over the cheering every time Ron Paul goes Anti-War. The debate was before an audience that is as Republican friendly as they're ever going to get. The cheering draws attention to the obvious. Not all Republicans are "United" on the good ship warmonger. That spells doom in the General Election. Republicans need to listen to Ron Paul because at least on Iraq he is correct. There is a seriously flawed version of history Republicans are buying into. The idea that Anti-War Candidates lose elections. Richard Nixon won running an Anti-War Campaign. Dwight Eisenhower won running an Anti-War Campaign. American voters certainly will reject candidates and Parties over Wars we should not be fighting. We are about to do it again too. Let's hope ALL politicians pay attention this time.

I am Republican, but things have gone far enough. I support Ron Paul and will vote for him. And to the people who are laughing at him remember this "He who laughs last laughs best"
Peace out

20. I noticed that as well. It's just a cheap way to make a joke out of an intelligent man. Ron Paul is a good decent man and these jackles want to slight him. It's so sad that presidential candidates feel that Americans have no honor and no decency that they feel comfortable laughing at another man on TV. This isn't a joke because the next president of the United States will either break or restore this country. Yes it is that serious. Presidential candidates should show humbleness, decency, composure, intelligence and shame. That's the short list. I expect a lot out of the next president because it's make it or break it time. We are under attack and it's not by terrorists it's by our "leaders". Watch "WHY WE FIGHT" and check out WWW.FREEDOMTOFASCISM.COM I implore all Americans reading this to please for the love of your country and decency to WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!

21. Giuliani realized that Paul's logic was clear, his intentions sincere, and that his message resonates with most Americans, so rather than debate him on the facts, he chuckles in contempt--Giuliani is a devious, uninformed oily politician, nothing more.

22. I can't tell who is laughing, but they shouldn't be. I heard a traditional Republican message with Ron Paul. I heard laughs when there should have been agreements, namely when the subject of the FBI and CIA were brought up. Both of these Beuracracies were invented when Govt was increasing, not cutting back. FBI was a direct result of the 18th amendment which was later repealed. The CIA was a Cold War Instrument, and the left had an unholy alliance with their socialist brothers the Soviets at the same time. Since the Cold War is over, and we defeated them like Paul said WITHOUT a bloodbath, it's logically to say it's time is coming to an end. Reps are not Warmongers, Reagan bankrupted his enemies he didn't have to slaugther them. Nixon stopped the draft and brought down the Bamboo Curtain. I would be a little surprised if Rudy was laughing since he is one of the biggest advocates for small Govt. maybe even more the Paul. On the other hand, Tancredo wants to increase the size of Govt, spend billions on the Border fence, and maintain another Beuracracy like the FBI and CIA. I beleive Ron Paul is right.. some NeoCons are not following logic and using their reasoning anymore. Ask William F Buckely, he would agree too.

23. I think Ron Paul's intentions and intellect are admirable, but he and he fellow libertarians don't doesn't seem to understand the fact that the world has changed, that you can't negotiate with half-crazed people who want to kill you and that if we just mind our own business instead of taking the fight to the enemy, they will come back and murder even more Americans next time.
I'm sorry, but you can't defund the CIA and the FBI and other government agencies that serve a useful and necessary and crucial purpose in this day and age. God Bless Ron Paul, anyways, for trying to stand up for the constitution and for saying straight-out what he believes is true.
Whoever laughed at him during the debate acted like a Neanderthal and a jerk and should publicly apologize for conducting himself like Al Gore. (Remember lots of gratuitous sighing by Captain Planet during the 2004 Presidential debates?)

26. Let me completely assure you - it is NOT Tom Tancredo laughing. He is a decent man and that is Guilliani's smarmy style - NOT Tom's. (For example, when interviewed, Tom was one of the only Republicans that showed kindness in empathizing over Larry Craig and his family and what they were going through). Tom and Ron Paul are friends and only Tancredo, Hunter and Paul have been consistent on their illegal immigration views.
Besides, Fox showed the image of Guilliani laughing, not Tancredo!

27. The pollsters got scammed on Non Paul, who wants to abolish the FBI,CIA,etc. The phone votes were from anti-war Dems who support Non Paul, Hillary, and the Muslim Obama. The focus group of Republicans were unanimous in supporting McCain. The candidates laughed at Non Paul because his political positions are so bizarre they are funny. Only anti-war Dems take him serious Bud Day MOH

29. Paul wasn't allowed to elaborate about the (loaded) question about debunking the FBI and CIA. I think he tried but was cut off. He did mention that our country has had many methods of obtaining intelligence about what other governments or organizations are thinking or planning that have an affect on our country (good and bad). The point is, though, that government agencies, once founded for good reason, become self-nurturing, more secretive and somewhat autonomous, a precursor to corruption. The example is the lack of protection to what happened on 9/11 and the faulty intelligence about WMD in Iraq. The Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force have intelligence branches. What do ambassadors, state department employees do but provide a type of information loop? What about Homeland Security and FEMA related to Katrina? The real point is that these agencies and their budgets could be cut back and they can still do their jobs as well as they did their jobs in the past. Some of the responsibility can be shifted to agencies that have been effective. We could hire fewer, but more qualified government spies.
