The group Votevets had launched a new ad on YouTube which captures the moment in yesterday's testimony where Gen. Petraeus said he couldn't say whether keeping us in Iraq was making us safer or not. Dante Zappala and Jon Soltz weigh in.Crooksandliars.com has another video about this.

1. Liberals are blatantly lying in an attempt to score political points at the expense of brave and honorable military men and women.
"When will it be over?" is a political question and "is it making us safer?" involves a whole lot more than the mission assigned to General Petraeus. Of course he can't answer those question and that's why Democrats asked them. Democrats think the American people are stupid so they asked unanswerable questions knowing clowns such as Jeff Hoard will use it as propaganda. As MoveOn.org found out: the American people see through the propaganda. In fourteen months Democrats will find out that the American people haven't forgotten their "surrender at all costs" attitude and their rooting for a U.S. defeat.

2. What are you hoping for, Robert -- 50,000 American dead? Would that make you happy?

3. I have three nephews in Iraq. They joined, willingly, but they were 18 years old and the recruiters promised them money. I do understand being 18 and thinking $80,000 is a hell of alot of money, and none of them ever thought they'd be serving in a war. What the recruiters didn't tell them is that the money is the GI Bill, not cash. How did they get in touch with armed forces recruiters? They didn't...the recruiters found them...in high school...a law passed in 2002 allows recruiters access to names, adresses, and home phone numbers of any kid in public school as part of No Child Left Behind. I guess Bush was serious about that part.

5. River Celt, I know this will sound crazy, but if you join the military receiving perks, why in the world would you not expect to pay the piper one day. I know everyone has heard the is no such thing as a free lunch. Been on two tours in the land of sand, so I guess I could complain as well. I hope that you enjoy your lattes and silverware while people that believe in our country step up to the front lines when called.

6. No matter how you look at this invasion, it is wrong and if has nothing to do with the war on terror. The war on terror has been put on hold for war profits. To this day I don't understand why President Bush invade Iraq and not gone after the real terrorist that he has let regroup in Pakistan.

8. I did not agree with President Bush when he made the decision to invade Iraq. But he made the decision and our military answered, just as they must. Now we are there, the news media will never show you how the every day working stiff in Iraq feel about our being there, our liberating them from tyranny. If we just pull out now we will have another Vietman on our hands, we could have won that war and we can still win this one. If we leave the job undone, another dictator, probably worse than the last one will take over Iraq and 10 years from now they will do exactly what Bin Laden did, bring the war to our shores and more innocent American lives will be lost. Personnally I prefer the war be fought over there not here.
Secondly, I have to agree with Jim. If you sign up to get paid, you have to do the job you signed up for.

9. Well, for all of you who so whole heartedly support Bush's invasion of Iraq, hold on to your seats because the Bombing of Iran (and all else that that may trigger) will most likely occur soon. Since Germany refused to extend even more sanctions against Iran the US planners have revealed their Aerial Bombing plans. Really you military types need to read the PNAC document where they state thir plans for America in the 21st century. Pax Americana is what they call it. That means Perpetual war on multiple fronts. A greater Israel (giving them most of syria and parts of Iraq) and Militarization of space and Military control of cyberspace. It is there for you to read. Just google "Rebuilding America's Defenses".

10. I find it ironic that those who support this war are so gung ho. This war is based on fear, unfounded fear at that. If we were really after terrorists, then we would be focusing on Afghanistan and Pakistan. If president bush hadn't said that the war in Iraq was making us safer here, the question would not have been asked.
I feel for the men and women in our armed forces, as we need an obedient and efficient armed forces. Especially given the past hundred plus years of poor foreign policy, republican and democrat alike. Thank you for your dedication. It is our job, however, to not let evil war profiteers such as much of the Bush administration abuse our armed forces. The armed forces are doing their job. Its time for us, the citizens of the U.S.A. to do ours and focus them on the right areas.
And to call enlisted 18 year olds bribed with multiple thousands of dollars willing participants is naive. If someone had offered me that much money coming out of high school with a economy like the one we have, I'd have taken it. Before any of you start quoting Bush about a greater amount of jobs in the economy, look at the median family income. Sure we are working more, but we are making less. And many of the new jobs are in the military, nice benefits there, such as risking death. Remember this is the same administration that tried to cut combat pay to the soldiers right after Bush's "Mission Accomplished" photo shoot back in 2003.
Those of you who think "liberals" are crazy need to understand that it is YOU who are being lied to. Just ask, "who benefits?" and you will know who is lying to you.
Geez,

11. Well RObert #1 and Tammy = then please tell us why Bush has not called for shared sacrifice of any kind? I mean, hell, if we are locked in such a death struggle with the Middle East, why not a draft? 130,000 troops to take on the entire Middle East?
It is so easy for smug conservatives to send someone else's kid off to fight and possibly die. Not so easy if it were your own kids or relatives OR you, for that matter.
Where are the Winston Churchill/FDR type rousing speeches telling our young folks to join the military from Bush?
Oh, I forgot - next year is an election year. Why else would Bush be drawing down troops by next summer? Just in time for the November presidential elections!

Thank you for your help. You can prevent more bloodshed for your soldiers and the innocent Iraqi civilians

13. A tough question indeed, especially in that one really can't quantify the answer either way. I'd like to ask the surrender caucus and their lapdog accomplices at votevets, moveon and msnbc how a drop-the-guns-and-run plan will make us safer...
BirdmanJones at 11:12AM on Sep 13th 2007
14. It amazes me that with all these gung-ho supporters of king gorges disaster the military has a hard time recruiting canon fodder. Feeling the way they do I would have thought that they would be standing in line to volunteer or if they are to old have their kids volunteer.
Geoff at 11:40AM on Sep 13th 2007
15. Petraeus couldn't honestly answer the question because he knows Iraq has made us less safe. The poor general has a moron for his commander in chief. He is doing the best he can for the mission he has been given. In the end, Iraq is a lost cause. The Bush Administration has been a total disaster.
