Phil Griffin knew it would happen, he just didn't think it would happen this quickly. On Friday night, MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann was the top-rated cable news show in the 25-54 demo. That means Olbermann beat his cable rival, FNC's The O'Reilly Factor and its host Bill O'Reilly. That's a first...MoreHere is one segment from Olbermann's ratings winning evening.
The Olbermann/O'Reilly rivalry has been ongoing; here is a collection of clips that illustrate this media pie fight.

2. I HAVE SPENT A COUPLE OF HOURS READING BLOGS AND OPINIONS FROM THE PEOPLE ON THE ISSUES AND CANT BELIVE HOW VILE THE AMERICAN PUBLIC HAS BECOME IN WORD AND THOUGHT. TO TALK ABOUT YOUR OWN PRESIDENT AND A FOUR STAR GENERAL THE WAY SOME DO IS DISPICABLE. SO IF OLBERMANN BEAT OREILLY IN THE RATINGS I'M NOT SURPRISED, PROPAGANDA OVER NEWS, HATEFUL EMOTIONALISM OVER FACTS... ALL SEEMS TO BE THE NORM OF THE DAY. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR CULTURE?

5. It is no surprise to me that Olbermann is higher in ratings over scumbag O'Reilly. At some point, the truth wins the day.

6. Finally some common sense prevailing. O'Reilly is a symbol of Fox News. He is overbearing, no concept of reality and lies to our faces with no problem whatsoever. Olbermann just explains the truth whether you like it or not.

7. I notice how you have to insert the "25 - 54 demographic". Would that be because in OVERALL ratings Olbermann lost by a large margin? I can certainly see why these two guys interest you so much, you spin facts (or pass on spinned news) as easy as they do. LOL

8. MARIANNA, you think Billo deals in facts and news? What are you smoking? It's brave of you to admit publicly you don't know the difference between news and whatever it is that Fox is trying to sell. As far as emotionalism, that is laughable. You've never seen Billo bluster, scream and belittle? Apparently you don't watch him much. My favorite was when he attacked a retired U.S. General and pinned the blame in the Malmedy massacre on U.S. troops, rather than German troops. In fact, he not only did it once, but twice!! Maybe you should watch Keith a bit more!

9. RE #2: I'm sorry, Marianna, but have you watched Olbermann and O'Reilly? I believe you have it somewhat backwards: O'Reilly is much more propagandist, hateful and emotional (repeatedly cutting off his "guests" when they say anything he doesn't like or disagrees with, refusing to report on the biggest news story in the country - the war in Iraq, etc.) than Olbermann. O'Reilly is NOT news, and the fact that it is presented as such is blasphemy to the word journalism and an insult to true journalists (few of which seem to exist in traditional media these days).

10. A sure sign that the oountry is slowly disintegrating if Olbermann is truly winning more hearts and minds. Continuing to listen to and believe in the clueless, naive worldview that Olbermann puts forth is a sure recipe for disaster. Wake up America, before Olbermann has you believing that all of our ills are due to the right and the relief is in sight with the left. We're all in this together and a little more examination of the past would help everyone better understand the challenges we are facing today.

11. BO gets KO'd. I love it. Bill is old tired and cranky. That is why he is such a hit with the geriatric set. Of course I'm betting older folks are about a million times more likely to be watching a cable news network at 8pm so Keith may have trouble maintaining the lead. It is great he knocked him off his high horse though.

12. #10 Steve, maybe you should go hide under your bed.

13. Not being a journalist, I'm only speculating, but I thought they, the journalists, were supposed to be objective? Don't they have a Code of Ethics or something? Am I being naive?

14. steve.
your post perplexes me in its cognitive dissonance.
first you rail against olbermann and his "naive worldview",
and how the country is going to pot if anyone listens to him.
ok..
thats your view..gotcha.
then you reveal a profoundly articulate, and appropriate finishing sentence.
"We're all in this together and a little more examination of the past would help everyone better understand the challenges we are facing today."
never a truer sentence was written.
now i dont know if your post was a indirect defense of o'reilly,
but that man has been responsible for more disinformation,
propaganda and half-truths than any other media figure on today.
its even documented!
olbermann on the other hand i find less..
shall we say...
destructive...
to historical facts than o'reilly.
while i find mainstream media abhorrent,
i can at least watch olbermann.
i love his special comment rants,
those are my favorite.
if i presumed to much by your post steve..
i apologize.
maybe you dislike o'reilly as much as olbermann,
and i read too much into your post.
but kudos on your last sentence..
its a truth all should heed.
till next time..peace.

15. this is not something I think Keith would not want advertised. Yes, it is the smaller and more coveted 24 - 54 "demo" Keith always cites but the bump comes from the inclusion of same day DVR viewers. Since people who Tivo generally zap commercials it will ultimately make his show less appealing to advertisers.
