We had Senator Mike Gravel on The Young Turks this morning. He is one of the Democratic presidential candidates and a former senator from Alaska. As you can see in the clip below, he admits to using marijuana and cocaine (God bless him for his honesty). He is not the least bit embarrassed about this or reluctant to share his story.
He then says we should legalize not only marijuana, but harder drugs like cocaine.
The whole interview with Senator Mike Gravel can be seen here.

2. Whatever you think of Mike Gravel, for a politician his honesty is refreshing.
While I am personally leery of legalizing marijuana (except medical marijuana) or harder drugs, he is correct when he says the "War on Drugs" has been a failure. Is there any reasonable person who still thinks it has been a big success?

3. If alcohol and tobacco are legal, it doesn't make much sense to draw the line anywhere else. Nothing makes people lose their common sense, not to mention impair their motor coordination, like alcohol, and nothing is more addicting than nicotine. Nicotine addiction accounts for some 400,000 tragic US deaths each year. So, Mike Gravel isn't off the wall, in fact his outlook on this and other important national concerns are quite rational. Cannabis illegality is a crime in itself, accounting for some 11% of US arrests annually. Remember, as non-criminals are arrested the resources for getting real criminals, such as pedophiles, rapists and murderers are lessened, leaving that many more at large. Would we rather have more violent criminals at large, or arrest people for lack of liberty to do what they want? - Dr. Kenneth J. Hildebrandt - http://majormediabypass.com

4. Oh yeah... as long as we are "honest" in our perversity, to libs, thats all that matters...Its refreshng? And one wonders why our culture is so lax... and dangerous! There was a time his butt would have been considered "negligent" as a leader in our government, for admitting to doing something "against" our laws, for doing something other people are in prison for!! There was a time this would have been considered improper.... But not today, not after the nose dive our culture took after the narcissist Clinton administration. Today as long as you admit something, its ok to have done it. For some Dems its somehow "refreshing"...hey, lets re-elect the law breaker, hes so refreshing! Unbelievable, that this man is a democratic "Presidential" candidate! What if he decided to do his drugs in the White House? Hey its party time!! But as long as he admitted it... I guess it would be alright, it would be refreshing!

5. JUST WHAT WE NEED ANOTHER PERVERSE, LAW BREAKING DEMOCRATE IN THE WHITE HOUSE THAT WANTS TO BE OUR PRESIDENT! GOD BLESS HIM FOR HIS HONESTY? ARE YOU KIDDING ME, WHERES HIS INTEGRITY? STEP DOWN YOU PATHETIC SLOB. HIS ASS SHOULD BE IN JAIL! SURE JUST WHAT WE NEED... LEGAL, DANGEROUS DRUGS SO WE CAN BE A COUNTRY OF ZOMBIES, THEN WE'D BE THEIR TRUE NATION OF SHEEP.

6. If you listen to Democrat Jan Schakowsky, a presidential candidate or some member of the Democrat Party must have given her too much cocaine. She talks like she knows it all and make no sense. Jan is going down hill and think she is going up, rocket woman Elton John, sing along.

7. I don't get you Paul. Are you telling me that Conservatives who act like angels but are as much as drug users as anyone (as in our current coke head alcoholic DWI's president) and lie about it, or being gay but not admitting it. So lying is better than the truth? Lying to yourself will force you to do desperately do shit like finding gay sex in a bathroom. What a shame.

10. Hey Pam # 5, who are you telling to "step down." Mike Gravel is a FORMER Senator, dear. Next time, read the article or at least pay attention to who your elected officials are. He does not hold any office, only running for prez.
And who are you to grandstand about how holier than thou conservatives are? Doesn't our current president have a DUI on his record, not to mention rumors of other drugs. I don't care personally, but please don't try to tell us how Republicans are so perfect and moral...some of them have been exposed too many times for the hypocrites they are.

12. I'm not sure about a wide open "anything goes" policy but I do know that the Anglo Ban, Ban, Ban, Control, Control, Control, Regulate, Regulate, Regulate, EVERYTHING approach to life has only resulted in an illicit trade in just about every aspect of life as well as an ignorant and prudish mindset about so many things AND the highest incarceration rate of any society in the history of the world right now. If you continue to try to withhold anything from people you will as always, only create a demand and a Black market for it. Also a resentment and a spitefully responsive counter behavior. We can't keep trying to enslave peoples lives and behavior in this manner. People who have never lived in other places of the world just don't realize how highly encumbered we really are here. All Domestic Propaganda and force fed Dogma in Check the one thing the US really has to offer aside from the excellent criminal defense system. (If you have the money or you are white and female)and statistically you are going to go through it here, is the economy is generally high.
Don't insist that I relocate to another country like some Redneck. My relative Geographic position to the problem is virtually irelevent. I've lived everywhere elsewhere and it makes virtually no difference where I live with respect to this issue. It will change nothing. It will alter nor impact nothing. Either refute me and prove me wrong (YOU CAN'T) or keep your mouth shut.

13. Hey Paul I cannot believe you said this!-"Today as long as you admit something, its ok to have done it. For some Dems its somehow "refreshing"...hey, lets re-elect the law breaker". Like our drunk driving, cocaine snorting President Bush?

15. ANYONE WHO NEEDS THEIR COFFEE FIX IN THE MORNING AND IS AGAINST COCAINE IS KIDDING THEMSELVES
COCAINE AND CAFFIENE ARE BOTH STIMULANTS AND HAVE VERY SIMILAR EFFECTS
Cocaine is NOT a "hardcore" drug the MEDIA makes it seem that way with how illegal it is. Get the facts people before you assume such bullshit.
