Bottled Water is bullshit!
*Update Sept 22nd 07* Just bumping this one back up, I found a pretty interesting blog on Reddit.com which points to this article that informs.
(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Around the world, factories are using more than 18 million barrels of oil and up to 130 billion gallons of fresh water a year to create something that, by and large, most people don't need. But the product is so amazingly popular that sales are going up 10 percent a year, just like clockwork.
The big success story? Bottled water. And the resources mentioned above are just to make the plastic containers.
Another 41 billion gallons of water is then used to fill them – water that is often just tap water, and other times has less frequent monitoring for safety or purity than if it had come out of a tap.

16. One has to love it with these "bottled water" fanatics. Not only do they deny they "were taken", in order to maintain their "status symbol" they actually engage in the defense of the shyster who fooled them. What people will do to prevent themselves from being proven wrong is quite beyond me. However, it does sound like George Bush doesn't it?

However, please choose another word to use rather than retarded. Retarded (or mentally ill) people have nothing to be ashamed of... Mr. Byngham, on the other hand, probably CHOSE to be the way he is.

20. i worked at this insane office for two years. the ladies were a little, umm.. what's the word... uptight. they told me never to drink the tap water, nor make coffee with it, because we would all get sick. other than that they drove me crazy on several levels every day. i always got to work first and made the coffee. with tap water. no one ever got sick. a little rebellion and a little satisfaction. my evilest sin revealed.

What... is someone going to come to my house and wash out a GLASS...then pour me some water? NO! I'd rather cold quick water from a bottle and throw it away .

22. Bottled water isn't the crime. Selling water should be a crime. Bottled water is necessary because we can't trust the tap water supply. We buy filters and flavors, but it still doesn't taste quite right. What about that man who complained about his water's different taste and it was sewage water accidentialy pumped in? Bottled water is a choice that some of us can afford. Selling water is a crime because it destroys property where others desperately need it. If there was no middle man profiting, we could set up a government program to shift the flood waters to the droughts. We'd all benefit from sharing the water and we might stop some of the major damages that we face? We are in this together, but it's a crime to sell water. It's almost like selling fresh air or sunshine. Mr. Burns hasn't found a way yet. Is this socialist or just the right thing to do? It's like health care. You don't care just as long as you've got it.

24. A. all bottled water is not the same. If anyone is going to rip you off with bottled water, sure it's going to be Pepsi. It no more means ALL bottled water is a ripoff than the existence of John Wayne Gacy means that ALL Americans are child torturer/rapists.
B. all tap water is not the same. Unless I've missed some specialty product, there isn't any bottled watter that smells like rotten eggs or chorine, or leaves rust stains on all your glasses.
Where I live, most of the county gets water from small local water districts with local wells. Each district, mostly, has distinctly different water, and if one district's well gets polluted, it doesn't mean the next district over is affected. The big city water, on the other hand, has so much fecal coliform in it that they chlorinate it until it smells like a public swimming pool.
The article is incompetent, poorly researched journalism. While it is useful to know that Pepsico is, in a moral sense, practicing fraud, it would be more honest journalistically to document the DIFFERENCES between bottled water brands, AND the variations in tap water.

27. It doesn't matter whether it be tap or from a bottle, people just feel safer when they drink from the bottle because they think its all purified. Really its not, and what their drinking comes out of their foset.

28. I only have one comment to make regarding bottled water. My son has a well & they recently found it had high levels of surfur in it. If you pour a glass from the tap, it smells like rotten eggs & has a horrible taste to it. What are they supposed to do.....go without? So, they have to buy bottled water as there is no other means of acquiring water short of drilling another well & they would end up with the same problem as they'd hit the same stream.

29. I bought water ionizer for $3000 with air purifier. I test the water for alkaline level but I don't know how to test for magnesium, chlorine and other minerals or chemicals. Can you tell how I can the water coming out of my machine? The compny claims also that the water is filtered and that it keeps the minerals that are needed by our body. Can you ask anyone who can help me find answers to this problem?
Thanks
