The area of the perennial ice has been steadily decreasing since the satellite record began in 1979, at a rate of about 10% per decade. But the 2007 minimum, reached on September 14, is far below the previous record made in 2005 and is about 38% lower than the climatological average. Such a dramatic loss has implications for ecology, climate and industry...Read More at NASA...

Dear Mr. Gore
We send this letter hopping that Nobel Price will obligate you to go behind talking about global warming and take the action to stop global warming.
In the past we got in touch with number of influential people without any effect (see attached documents). Copy of US Patent to eliminate carbon dioxide had been presented to President George Bush two months ago.
There two major factors affecting ozone layers:
1.Carbon dioxide from factory plants and automobiles.
2. Chlorine evaporating from purification plants and rivers. Montreal Protocol eliminated chlorofluorocarbons from air conditioning systems ( R11, R12) but nothing had been done to eliminate chlorine from drinking water. Global warming is the prime effect but there are many other:
-health consequences: wide spreading of infectious diseases including AIDS.
-enormous government expenses on Health System
-low productivity of American People.
Technology is available. Presentation on request.Copy of US Patent to neutralize dioxine and other materials included.
Sincerely
Jerzy Szmygiel

Dear Mr. Szmygiel,
We were forwarded your business proposal by the office of Bill Gates.
I am a Business Development Manager with Microsoft’s Opportunity Management Center (OMC), and work with business teams across the company to review and evaluate inbound unsolicited proposals.
We appreciate your interest in working with Microsoft. However, after reviewing your proposal, we do not see a complementary fit with our business objectives at this time. Although your proposal certainly has merit to potentially impacting global health, particularly in the developing world, your proposal is out of scope for Microsoft’s business development initiatives.
Keep in mind that Microsoft Corporation is not in any way affiliated with the charitable efforts of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Thank you for sharing your proposal with Microsoft. Again, I appreciate your interest in working with Microsoft and want to personally wish you the best of luck with your project.
Sincerely,
George Morrison

3. I have to agree with Greg. Although the ice cap may be smaller than it has been in recent years, this video merely seems to show the summer melt. Don't wet your pants just yet, Jeff.
Jay at 7:58PM on Oct 25th 2007
4. A video composite of the icecap on the same date across many years would be a lot more convincing. A time-lapse across one year (actually less than one year) just shows seasonal variations. Though I do believe global warming is in progress, this video is a massively deceptive way to sell the idea.

5. "It has implications for ecology, climate and industry"...and those implications would be?????
I read nothing in the NASA article that said we are all going to die tomorrow.

6. Psst. The ICE CAPS ON MARS are melting too. Quick, shut down that dang greenhouse spewing crawly thing we have on Mars!
Clue: WE are in a ten thousand year warming period, to be closely followed by a cooling period. Why? Because the sun is not the constant your models suggest. When the sun is hoter the ICE CAPS melt ... even on Mars.
Thomas J Gassett at 8:30PM on Oct 25th 2007
7. Man you guys are angry and in denial. You believe every piece of crap thrown out to you and not anything the 99.999% of scientists believe... which is rather unbelievable.
My mantra is yep the earth goes through cooling and heating cycles all the time. The difference is that it usually takes a thousand or so years to convert from one to the other. Not 50 measly years.
Dumb butts.

8. Poor Tommy. He's just sitting here with his head crammed squarely up his own backside when it should be stuck in the sand with those of his fellow yammering neoconservative halfwits.
Study the science or STFU.

9. National Geograhic web site has a short article on Martian ice cap melting. It doesn't quantify the change but does indicate there has been 3 yrs of recession. Note that this refers to the frozen ice caps. That change should not be confused with the normal and very noticeable seasonal changes in the CO2 'dry-ice' caps that cover the ice caps at times.

You've got to be kidding? 50 years? Do you have a link to a website with an agenda to push and no reputation to protect, or did that number come to you in ecodream?

Seeing that you are every bit as insulting as I am, the only difference bewteen us is chant your lines perfectly, and I ask questions.
Are you old enough to remember when all the science said we were heading for another ICE AGE? Inquiring minds want to know.

AT the time, they only had data for those three years. One can assume the frozen Carbon dioxide ICE CAPS of Mars have been melting a bit longer.
Note that this refers to the frozen ice caps. That change should not be confused with the normal and very noticeable seasonal changes in the CO2 'dry-ice' caps that cover the ice caps at times.>>
As far as we can tell there are only frozen Co2 ICE CAPS on MARS ... or did you just discover water on Mars?
What matters is, the ICE CAPS on MARS and the ICE CAPS here are both melting due to a warmer sun.
Or maybe you eco-clowns can tell us why we had GW hundreds of times before mammals ever walked this Earth? Was it dino flatulence?
Or maybe you can explain how the current tempuature rise on Earth began before the industrial revolution?
Or maybe you can explain why you have such faith in climate models?
Clue: Real scientist plugged in the climate of the seventeenth century into these models and they failed to predict the climate of the eightteenth century? I guess it's more a matter of faith? Gee, did we just discover the liberals religion?
Maybe you herd followers can do something ... anything other than run your nose up the butt of the eco-clown in front of you?

13. A chicken just ran by saying the sky is falling! I'm getting the hell out of here!
Gerald Campbell at 10:24PM on Oct 25th 2007
14. The industrial revolution just so happened to coincide with the warming trend thathad already been in motion for thousands if not up to hundreds of thousands of years. Remember the "ice age" that came upon the Mammoths and ancient world? It's a cycle. Do I believe current fuel burning adds to warming? Yes... but not nearly to the degree that Al Gore's models suggest. Not enough to CHANGE the cycle in any appreciable degree... as to alter the nature cycle. These cycles are not 50, or 100 or 500 years.. they are thousands of years long. It's obvious that all earth changes move in cycles. As is so with the Sun and every other planet... including Mars, who's ice caps are ALSO melting now. So please... I'm glad Al Gore got his rocks off with the Nobel prize for his flick... but let's get real about the science that verifies that we are IN A CYCLE, and it's warming... and it would have warmed regardless if we were driving cars or riding horses.

15. So, ummmm, like- Jeff! When I was a child, as you are now, the "experts" were scaring the hoi palloy with the "coming of the next Ice Age".
Have I missed something? Next time it snows up here in New England, get your liberal ass over here and shovel my driveway and then go beat the ice off the bridge of my boat!
