Here is an article from the LA Times about the film.
It's not clear whether Washington ever really learned the lesson of Rwanda, but it's quite evident that Hollywood got it with "Hotel Rwanda." Those touched by that 2004 film, which powerfully dramatized the ethnically motivated mass killings there in the mid-'90s that were all but ignored by the world, are determined not to let another African genocide occur unopposed.
This week, Hollywood's campaign to raise awareness about the civilian slaughter continuing in the Darfur region of Sudan was put in full view at the Directors Guild of America premiere of "Darfur Now," a comprehensive and pointed documentary on the war raging between tribes in the East African country. (Relief organizations estimate that between 200,000 and 400,000 people have been killed, while more than 2.5 million have been displaced.)...Read More on LA Times...
To go with the trailer here is a mini-documentary called On Our Watch, it's sad to see this going on in the world and if you want to learn more about what is going on visit.

1. Since Dafur isn't a threat to the United States, we mustn't engage in a preemptive strike at this time.

Can't you see the irony? Liberals are all for using our military anywhere in the world ... as long as it's not in our national interest. Go figure?

Note the dates ... when Bush was the govenor of Texas. Clearly, liberals are the ones that invented the WMD card.
Saddam's goal ... is to achieve the lifting of U.N. sanctions while retaining and enhancing Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs. We cannot, we must not and we will not let him succeed." -- Madeline Albright, 1998
"The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow." -- Bill Clinton in 1998

5. Darfur is liberal "Hollywierd's" latest pet project. A loose extension of Kanye West's, "George Bush hates Black people."
Nevermind the fact that the current administration has given more in humanitarian aide to Darfur than any other.
Incidentally, "200,000 to 400,000 killed" would've been considered 'rank amateurs' by Hussein standards.
Can't wait to see Sean Penn show up in Darfur with a ten pound bag of rice, to show how much he "cares," just like the Katrina fiasco of renting a delapodated fishing boat with just enough room for his personal photographer.
"Saddam Hussein has spent the better part of this decade, and much of his nation's wealth, not on providing for the Iraqi people, but on developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the missles to deliver them." "I know I speak for everyone in this chamber, Republicans and Democrats, when I say to Saddam Hussein, "You cannot defy the will of the world," and when I say to him, "You have used weapons of mass destruction before; we are determined to deny you the capacity to use them again."
---William Jefferson Clinton, State Of The Union Address.

6. Wait I thought you not-so-smart conservative war-hawks wanted to protect everyone everywhere all the time with the military? It's funny how you just bring up Saddam like its a defense for ignoring Sudan...
It's pretty simple there... people are dying by the thousands everyday, and God forbid those nutty liberals try to help them out. Who knows these people might actually be thankful for not getting killed

7. #6 Matt. I actually agree with you on some points. We are our brother's keeper. Most of the people doing the "ground work" in Sudan, are from Catholic/Christian missionaries--hardly what you'd describe as "liberals." Too many narccisist, greedy liberals in this country who'd rather say, "fu@k the rest of the world, I want my free health care, and government money to help the miliions of "starving" kids here in the U.S.A."
I was pointing out the liberal hypocrisy when similar conditions existed in Iraq-- the liberals turned their backs on that project, because it was the Republicans that were in charge at the time of invasion. The only thing the Hollywood types have correct, is that we should be helping genuine poor people in third world countries, oppressed by their government, and not the poor-by-choice, 'victimologists' in this country.

8. Matt and others lacking knowledge of History
Democrat Congress in the 90's, while Clinton President 1-Mandated the withdrawel of troops from Somalia 2-Forbade military actions in Rwamda
Those 2 Democrat Congresional Actions made USA stand by while hundreds of thousands of Black Africans were slaughtered. And of course, the UN was and still is useles in Africa
Matt didn't you take history in school? Forget these anti black Democrat votes?

10. Oh thanks for the history lesson, but you ignore the fact that Clinton had sent troops to Somalia and the REPUBLICANS were raising hell about him doing so, and, with the whole Gingrich shutting down the government thing coming closer he decided that he couldn't keep the troops there long enough to make a difference (90 days is the limit)
Sorry, couldn't let you get away with some pretty revisionist history there. Still doesn't explain why we shouldn't help Sudan.
And Lizard, I feel sorry for you my man... Obviously you have never been to any of the impoverished areas of this country, and I'm talking about rural areas of Tennessee as well as the Ghettos of Richmond and other places. Watching a rap video or fox news isn't a full education on conditions in inner cities

11. Responding to Matt (10)
First, I am a democrat, so don't throw any of the "you Republican" BS at me!
You need to do some research @$$whole. Clinton pulled the troops out of Somalia because of the fiasco @ Mogadishu.
The real blame for Somalia, Rwanda, and the Sudan lies with the American people. Too many of us, across the political spectrum, are simply selfish and illogical. We are upset (boo-hoo) because the world does not like us. Yet, when we have the opportunity to make a difference, we back off and say "Nah, not our fight."
Ask anyone with foreign service experience and they will tell you that one of our biggest problems in foreign relations is that no one trusts us. They can not rely on us.
- Think Cuba, Vietnam, the Kurds in northen Iraq.
- I have spent quite a bit of time in China. They do not respect us because we offically sat back and did nothing for years while Japan murdered hundreds of thousands of Chinese prior to WW2. A small handful of American pilots fought and died to help defend the Chinese. They are grateful for that.
The world does not believe that the American people have the will and desire to pay ANY price for others.
Remember the words of Osama bin Laden, "America is a paper tiger." This was based on our "tuck-tail-and-run" withdrawal from Mogadishu!
Matt, did you see the movie "The Peacemaker" with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman?
At the end, when they had caught up with the terrorist (in NYC, carrying a nuclear device in a backpack), the terrorist accused the world of standing by and doing nothing while his family and friends died. Clooney's character replied, "It's not our fight." The terrorist's last words were "It is now."
I will agree with your criticism of Republican leaders. They, alonf with Democrats, did insist that we stay out of Rwanda and get out of Somalia. However, they were responding to pressure from their constituents.
Again, the blood is actually on the hands of the citizenry. Our pacifism pior to WW2 costs millions their lives, and this trait continues to this day.

12. "Beware of entangling foreign alliances." George Washinton, 1st President United States of America.
It's damned if you do and damned if you don't. There are those in the World and here in the States that say we should project power and BE the police of the world. Others say that we only get involved when our national interests are at stake and others start chiming in when thing don't go accordng to agenda.
Do we care about our neighbors? And who is neighbor? I say give the people what they say they want; no involvement with the rest of the unappreciative world. When the rest of the world in being controled by fanatics and our head has been turned or buried in the sand (hm interesting turn of phrase-sand, middle east...) Well when the world is run by madmen America had better duck. Because even though America doesn't bother anyone else America will be the target of a lot of hate.
But if the people want "peace" and no involvement. Let the rest of the world be damned and let them fix there own problems. Let them kill themselves off and let new civilizations take their place.

13. Oh thanks for the history lesson, but you ignore the fact that Clinton had sent troops to Somalia and the REPUBLICANS were raising hell about him doing so, >>
You are welcome to your own opinions, but not your own facts. Clue: George H W Bush sent our troops into Somalia to feed starving people. Clinton changed the mission into disarming the Warlords. Our military wanted tanks to break through barracdes ... but clintoon said no, it would be too provocative. This was why we lost so many troops, because we couldn't break through the barracdes to reach them. After this disaster, clintoon pulled the troops out.

15. No need for some foul language here, and hell, I'll admit... I was incorrect in some of my information, but that escapes my point entirely... That we need to intervene in Darfur... I'll admit my mistaken information... Will any of you argue against protecting people from genocide?
