1. I'm still waiting for the film adaptation of 'Lawrence v. Texas' with Pat Buchanan as John Geddes Lawrence and Chris Tucker as Tyron Garner, his gay lover. It would be a hoot.

2. Aw Mo,
I am maybe your biggest fan, save for Andrea, but I totally do not agree with you on this post.
I do not find the Larry Craig situation funny, although I completely understand the hypocrisy argument of attacking a homosexual Republican who attacks the practice while embracing it.
It really comes down to an ethical question of "Outing."
Richard Mohr wrote a wonderful book which addressed this issue, although he was on the wrong side of it.
His argument was, if you expose someone who has witheld their sexuality, you are teaching the world that there is far more difference in society than most people would readily believe.
However, I find his argument flawed for two reasons:
1) It is an attack on the notion of privacy.
and
2) It is an aristocratic notion. That is to say, certainly someone like Ellen will always find work at quite a a substantial rate. However, there are other people who, not quite as talented, would lose present and future employment.
So, for Larry Craig: despite his hypocrisy, for all intents and purposes, he does not really make so much as an old Senator that he can afford to lose his job. Okay, maybe $123,000.00 is a lot to some people, but I think he has high taxes and expenses as well as medical bills.
And allow me to rehash another point. Wasn't it in that same city of Minneapolis where a major BRIDGE fell down while taxpayer's money was being diverted to catch this PREDATOR?
Now, I'm not holier than thou. I've made a few snide Larry Craig comments in the past, mostly out of my contempt for Republicans in general. But I stand, or if you will, sit beside Larry on this issue.
I hope I didn't put any damper on the humour of this post.

3. This is funny. Haha, looks like a great cast!
P.S.- I'm in love with John Waters, and he's a god.

4. Oh Mo,
I think 2 other great candidates for the roll of Dave Karsnia could have been:
Ron Eldard (Juliana Margules' paramedic boyfriend from ER)
Larry Birkhead (Annas baby daddy)
Both of them have a rather 'duh' like look to them, which could only in turn HELP their roles.
Honorable mentions:
Harry Connick Jr

A great cast replacement for Ted Haggard. (It's the goofy mouth)
I know how much he likes theater, so if Harry isn't up for it, maybe he can add to the Broadway adaptation of the movie that is sure to follow the ground breaking release.

5. john giza, what the heck? hit a nerve? that was a little defensive with a hint of preachy...can i help you down off that milk crate?
i would have to say...chill. whether larry craig is gay or not...hey, it's just a movie...and just a way for mo to get in a good rip taylor reference. john waters, not unlike our beloved mo rocca, uses a slighty odd angle to tell a good story. who knows if he wants to out larry craig or not. i personally don't care who he sleeps with or what he wanted to do in that bathroom. america knows the only reason it got blown out of proportion is because he is a senator. i think you need to visit mo's favorite zen shop and unbunch your chi.

6. Great job with the casting! Make sure Conan O'Brien's team doesn't see this or they'll rip it for sure (the strike's still on, right?)
JG, outing for the sake of outing is wrong. But Craig is a public official and therefore subject to a different kind of scrutiny than regular citizens. It's the price one pays to be in the public eye.

7. bobbleheaddoll,
true, a bit preachy.
Full Disclosure: I love John Waters films (favorite is Polyester) and I'm sure he'll handle it nicely.
Morever, I watched the Mo Rocca sexy video over 15,000 times, which puts him ahead of Jacqueline.
I'm just no big fan of "Outing" for historical reasons.
BTW, I love your blog name. If you don't mind.

8. Aw Mo,
I didn't catch the whole drift.
I see where this is going now.
You are indeed genius, as is Waters.
Imagine how Karsnia must have felt when the Sergeant called him into the office and said:
Karsnia--you'll make a great Gay guy!
I say, cast the original Karsnia. Let's keep it real.
Colonel Klink threw me, but I see what you were doing with him now. Though, this is a sensitive topic for a lot of people.

9. John,
I agree with you that it's a sensitive topic. However... Here's how I see it (in case you were wondering!):
I have no problem with gay people. To each his own. What consenting adults do with one another behind closed doors is really up to them.
I say "behind closed doors" because I don't like seeing it (no matter the sex or orientation of the people involved) done in public. Kissing is one thing, but many people take it beyond the PG-13 level in public, and sorry, it irks me.
So having said that, correct me if I'm wrong, but what happened is that he was soliciting sex in a public bathroom? How romantic. :P
Also, he's a public figure. Did he not realize that the consequences would be a lot greater for him if he was caught than for someone whose job it was to, say, fix computers in some random office building somewhere?
Public figures are just held to different standards than the rest of the world. I'm a teacher. I know this. Every once in a while, you hear about a teacher getting in trouble for something posted on Youtube or something about them on the Internet. We have to be more fastidious than the general public, because while a bank teller or the guy who manages the grocery store might not get in trouble for putting something racy or drunken online for the world to see, for us it would be a one-way ticket out.
If I know this, he certainly knows this. I do feel sorry for the hot water he got himself into, but let's not forget that *he got himself into it.*
OK, done. ;) I really don't ever enter into political discussions, but on this blog it seems like I might have to learn. ;) So how did I do?
Chrissy at 5:56PM on Nov 7th 2007
10. Chrissy,
A++,
I'm no big fan of Larry Craig, nor do I excuse or encourage public sex.
I merely object (and I can cite rational arguments both liberal and conservative) to those who enjoy the exploitation of other people's failings in order to propagate their own agenda.
And yes, it is very frightening, even for the grocery store clerk, what harms can come to them from fictionally exposing themselves on a public blog.
Granted, they must cross a reasonable line regarding decency for it be a reliable sin.
I guess this is the whole OJ argument, where I am simply saying, let's learn a lesson from this and move on.

11. Is Werner Klemperer still alive? Oh, well, it doesn't matter I guess. There are other actors who could play Larry Craig..hey, what about Kelsey Grammer?! Who else?????
David S. at 6:34PM on Nov 7th 2007
12. Poor Mo,
First he lost his writers and now this...
And didn't Colonel Klink kick the bucket a few years ago? Or was that Colonel Sanders?
So, how about we cast Larry David as Larry Craig instead? Think about it...
http://www.buddytv.com/articles/curbyourenthusiasm.jpg
On a serious note, this whole Larry Craig controversy reminds me of the fallout after Bill Clinton's impeachment.
Everyone was saying that Bill Clinton was impeached for having sexual relations with an intern in the White House. When, in actuality, he was impeached for lying under oath to a Federal Grand Jury.
Again, people are misplacing the focus of this case as well. The issue is not whether Senator Craig is actually gay or just has a wide bathroom stance. The issue, as with Bill Clinton, is in the coverup.
But again the sex is what everyone focuses on...
Come on, America! Let's get over the sex obsession and the homophobia!!

14. Mo,
I'm not sure which casting move is cracking me up more - Rip Taylor or Jeff Stryker! I have fond memories of Rip hosting "The $1.98 Beauty Show" when I was a wee lass back in the '70s.
Then again, I should probably be more ashamed that I recognized Jeff Stryker's name... :D
All the best,
