Muslim Girls Choose Scouts Over Vagina Monologues
But the Scouts movement has spread worldwide, and now the New York Times reports that Muslim girls are joining the Girl Scouts in many American cities. Why? Basically in order to assimilate and become American! "It's kind of cool to say you are a girl scout," one Muslim girl says. "It is good to have something to associate yourself with other Americans. I like to be able to say that I am a girl scout just like any other normal girl."
Sure, some of the Muslim clubs are a little different in that they incorporate Muslim traditions. In Minneapolis one of the Scout groups is called the Khadija Club after the prophet Muhammad's first wife. So far Muslim groups have shown no hesitation, however, in extending membership to non-Muslims.
To some liberals, it may seem surprising that young Muslim girls are joining a conservative group like the Scouts. Recall that the Scouts have been hauled into court several times for refusing to embrace homosexuality. Some liberal groups are outraged that the Boy Scouts is uncomfortable with the idea of gay troop leaders taking young boys into the wilderness! Such prudery!
But it is precisely the traditional values of the Scouts that draw young Muslims. Somehow these religious and modest girls are not attracted by what liberal culture has to offer. Given the choice of trying out for "The Vagina Monologues" or taking up Scouting, they prefer Scouting. If he knew this, that wily old imperialist Lord Baden Powell would have chuckled.

166. The reason I started posting is that I'm tired of people referring to me, a gay man as a pedophile

You're right. That's a sick association and I'd classify it as another Big Lie, like saddam was behind 911 but times a few thousand since it's personal and against a fellow law abiding citizen.
Another one I bet you're sick of hearing is if you can get married then people can marry dogs or cockroaches or whatever. That seems like some pretty deep seated hatred to me.
I don't know if religion does that to people's brains or if it attracts people who think like that.
I grew up around a lot of weird mostly rural fundamentalists who pretty much aggressively hated anything different from them, including one another.
Not just gays and minorities but other sects, medicine, schools, loose women, working women, movies, dancing, music and progress in general.
They became entranced, babbled in tongues, sucked rattlesnake and copperhead face and drank strychnine in some sects.
Weird stuff, but definitely supported by scripture if you cherry pick it.
When I was young, that extremism was in a very tiny minority, but probably thanks to teleevangelism, it's been growing like cancer.

i agree, it does sound like hatred. what i think is ridiculous is the argument that if homosexuals get married it will somehow devalue marriage. two gay men getting married is not going to mean that the love shared between a married man and woman changes in any way. if a straight couple allows the love between homosexuals to affect their marriage then it has nothing to do with homosexuality and everything to do with the love (or lack thereof) that they have for eachother.

168. Pseudo psychiatric groups??
Careful, Clif. That may be a way to automatically discredit any group whose conclusions you disagree with without looking at the evidence.

169. Richelle:
The changing cultural mores factor was not one little detail in the APA's decision to declassify homosexuality as a disorder. It was a significant factor (one of two factors, the other being evidence) for doing so. If the decision to declassify was based solely on the evidence, why didn't the APA say that the decision to declassify was based soley on the evidence??

If I'd been giving this thought for about ten minutes you might be right.
Since you know nothing of my methodology or what I might know about pseudopsychological groups, I would submit that you may be looking to 'automatically discredit' what I have to say 'without looking at the evidence'.
If you want a classic pseudopsychiatric group, look no farther than scientology.
Are you looking for one that supports your hatred of gays? There are quite a few.
I look at any group that practices some kind of agenda-driven quasi-therapy as a pseudo psychological group, or cult, or individual. It's a very lucrative trade.
By the way, why don't you give me a good one sentence definition of 'evidence'.
In my experience about 95% of the people who use the word have NO idea of what evidence is. My guess is you'd be one of them.
For example, is anything written in the bible 'evidence'? If so, of what?
Clif Kuplen at 2:25AM on Dec 4th 2007
171. i never said it was based solely on the evidence, but i believe that you are downplaying its importance. in the link i provided you it didn't just say that there was "some" evidence or a "little" evidence. and did you consider the example i gave you about the civil rights movement?

174. As a register BSA leader for 10 years, I can say I was glad to hear the other cultures are embracing scouting as a fun and educational experience for their youth. The values and morals that one can learn from the scout movement are valid and deeply engrained if one stays in the program for any real length of time. As far as BSA and exclusions are concerned, BSA is a PRIVATE organization and can set their own standards for admission. The chartering institution must provide and meet certain requirements before BSA will even consider associating with that institution. From that point on, activities must still meet overall standards of BSA policy, but the chartering institution may set their own rules of admission to a unit, based on the unit's committee's guidelines. Obviously, the muslim group sponsoring this unit has met those strict requirements. As for Mormons, there is a program in place for those that are LDS. We honestly try to honor other religions as a whole. The 12th point of the Scout law is reverent. The first is loyal. There are reasons for that. As far as homosexuality is concerned, BSA more or less has a don't ask, don't tell policy. However, every single person who applies as a leader agrees to an FBI criminal background check. That is why there are so few incidents of scout leaders committing a crime against children or the general public. However, having said that, if they applied many, many years ago, and then commit a crime after being accepted, there is no way to stop that. WTG girls! Keep up the good work and keep scouting!

175. The "VAGINA MONOLOGUES..", sounds like potty mouth talk to me. Never even heard of it before stumbling upon this site. I am one of those old fashioned sort of people who believes that some things are better off not being glorified. This being one of them.
I like DD. At 63 years young it is nice to know that there are still people feel the same way I do on a wide range of topics. God, family, duty, honor, country
As for the Muslim Girls joining Girl Scouts was new to me and I was glad to see it.
You can label me any way you want to, just don't label me as a liberal or a supporter of the cultural left.
