This is a real story. I have to preface it by saying that because it is so remarkable and unbelievable. ABC News is reporting that a 22 year old American woman was gang-raped in Iraq by employees of KBR, a Halliburton subsidiary at the time.
What makes it even worse is that the US government has done nothing about it for two long years. She has a Republican Congressman from Texas fighting for her and she still can't get the Justice Department to press charges or even comment on the case. This is maddening.
The terrible details of the case are explained in the video below.
Girl Gets Gang-Raped: Cover-Up by U.S., Halliburton/KBR
Add to My Profile | More Videos
The rape kit was mysteriously turned over to KBR security personnel, the same company whose employees were accused of the rape. Unsurprisingly, the rape kit is now "missing." A lot of that going around lately. And KBR claims she must go into arbitration instead of a US courtroom because ... that's what's in her contract!
Are they kidding? Is this some sick joke? I think you might have been in slight violation of that contract when you allowed her to be raped and covered up the crime. Now, they have the audacity to cite her contract.
My God, look at what they're doing to American citizens and getting away with. When is all this going to be enough for you? If Iranians had done this to a 20 year old American girl, we would have invaded that country by now. But as long as it's the Vice President's company, it's all okay? Do people have no conscience? What if it was your daughter? We can't let them get away with this.

1. Horrific story. Another example of reprehensible behavior by US-contracted company.
Raking in billions of dollars isn't enough for them? Unaccounted for money isn't enough for them?
Who's responsible? The decider, that's who.
Linda at 12:39PM on Dec 11th 2007
2. Cenk, hate to tell you, but they HAVE gotten away with this....they've been doing it to the whole COUNTRY for years now!!!!!
AZCat at 12:44PM on Dec 11th 2007
3. Unfortunetly nothing seems to be too low for this group...oh yeah a blow job in the white house, NOW that's what the American people find most offensive.

4. Cenk,
Maybe, just maybe we should wait for the evidence to be presented before convicting Haliburton. Let's not potentially create another Duke situation. Let's see what is presented at the trial. If the evidence is compelling then the perps will be found guilty, and Haliburton will most likely be required to compensate the victim. I know you dislike Haliburton a great deal and will expose any negative news regarding Haliburton. However, I doubt there is a directive in any Haliburton manual stating this is acceptable employee behavior.
Let's not forget Haliburton had "no-bid" contract under prior administrations. They do a difficult job under difficult circumstances. If there is a better company that will operate under similar circumstances as well as Haliburton, I haven't heard of them.

5. Cenk which are you interested in
1-seeing justice served-that the people who raped this woman are brought to justice, which should include having their b---a cut off
2-or are you interested in this story because of Hailburton name and polictal hay you are trying to make
I think you do not give a dam about this woman, not a speck. Your game is a political game and will USE anyone you can to get a story, and in this case making a connection from the Rapers, KBR Security, Hailburton and then to Cheney. You a one sick puppy to use a woman who was gang raped and play it to make a connection between the Rapers and Cheney.

6. CENK,
I know of a company who can do the same job that KBR is doing under the same conditions. (at least it used to until clinton came along) That company is the US ARMY. This event (if true) and all the other issues we have had with "contractors" just goes to show why we DONT NEED THEM IN IRAQ. Contractors are of no use to the army because they cant stand a post or carry weapons. This means we have to take Soldiers out of the ranks to protect them! Lets get rid of these moronic contract companies and rebuild our army to what it once was. An army that could do anything and everything when it had too.
karl at 3:12PM on Dec 11th 2007
7. Hey, Karl...get a clue there bubba. Let's "rebuild the Army so we can get rid of these contractors"??? How are you going to do that by appealing to Socialist, Military hating, America Hating liberals like the pukes that write this blog? It isn't going to happen pal. Not unless we go to the Draft (gasp, bungholes slam shut, shrieking is heard and the Young Turks' backsides last seen as they cross the Canadian border). That is the first thing this President SHOULD have done after 9/11 - period. After that, within 6 months, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and North Korea should have been neutralized. No, not invaded. I said neutralized. As in bombed into submission - the same with Libya, Syria and the Sudan. The rest would have stood by, urinating in their tea stained nightshirts with half untied diapers hanging off their heads. KBR didn't "rape" this woman, Cheney didn't rape this woman, and no mention by these liberal, spineless cowards who write this column about the fact that this little American girl was also a "mercenary" for wanting to make all the big money. Hey, by the way Gang of Blogger punks - guess what? If this were the land of your good buddies, the Jihadists, she would be on trial for her life -facing a death of stoning, or being whipped half to death before being hung. Yeah, that's what the Muslims do to unmarried women who claim rape. And you want to give those idiots OUR constitutional rights hey? Why don't we waterboard those damned Iraqis and find out if they did in fact rape her! You'd support THAT use of waterboarding wouldn't you?

8. Sure morons. This was Bush's fault. Get a life.
Marty at 4:04PM on Dec 11th 2007
9. ohhhh the big bad corportaion. Well haliburton is going to have to work alot harder to catch up with the biggest group of sexual offenders, teachers, weighing in at 32,000 cases.
L. Fog at 4:37PM on Dec 11th 2007
10. draft? wow some people are paranoid,
if this were a total war (meaning we're also being attacked ON U.S soil) then ok
but if its jus a conflict why?
i dont see iran as a threat, they're barely a newly industrialized nation, you know who else is: Mexico, why aren't we afraid of them?
el mariachi at 5:20PM on Dec 11th 2007
11. Whew! On a Jeff Hoard blog the "conservatives" are defending pollution. On this blog they are defending gang rape.
Captain Negative at 6:35PM on Dec 11th 2007
12. el mariachi
where the hell have you been? as i recall, we WERE attacked on our own soil! you must have been in a pot-induced haze during the month of 9/11. the rest of the country [excepting liberals, of course] remembers!
norm snyder at 6:36PM on Dec 11th 2007
13. Does anyone here using the term "liberals" know what the definition of one is?
And if I do remember correctly, it wasn't the "crazy liberals" that started the mess in Afghanistan, the stalemate in Iraq, the corruption in Washington, and the collapse of international support and respect for America.
I hope people who identify themselves as "conservative" realize that if they do so because they believe they're preserving something of what America used to be, its rather ironic that in fact, they're only condoning its downfall.
Christian at 7:33PM on Dec 11th 2007
14. >Maybe, just maybe we should wait for the evidence to be presented before convicting Haliburton.
Did you somehow miss the part about Halliburton/KBR taking custody of the evidence and then "losing" it? They just immunized themselves from prosecution.
Bob at 7:39PM on Dec 11th 2007
15. CN no one here is defending rape. You might want to spin it that way... which only means you would be a great liberal talk show host (if you aren't one already). If fact, as I understand it, the conservatives are pointing out that the Turks most likely don't give two shits about the woman and choose to tell us this story with the purpose to discredit the Bush administration. Its amazing how deep people will dig for negative information, but you should know that, Captain Negative.
