This is a real story. I have to preface it by saying that because it is so remarkable and unbelievable. ABC News is reporting that a 22 year old American woman was gang-raped in Iraq by employees of KBR, a Halliburton subsidiary at the time.
What makes it even worse is that the US government has done nothing about it for two long years. She has a Republican Congressman from Texas fighting for her and she still can't get the Justice Department to press charges or even comment on the case. This is maddening.

The rape kit was mysteriously turned over to KBR security personnel, the same company whose employees were accused of the rape. Unsurprisingly, the rape kit is now "missing." A lot of that going around lately. And KBR claims she must go into arbitration instead of a US courtroom because ... that's what's in her contract!
Are they kidding? Is this some sick joke? I think you might have been in slight violation of that contract when you allowed her to be raped and covered up the crime. Now, they have the audacity to cite her contract.
My God, look at what they're doing to American citizens and getting away with. When is all this going to be enough for you? If Iranians had done this to a 20 year old American girl, we would have invaded that country by now. But as long as it's the Vice President's company, it's all okay? Do people have no conscience? What if it was your daughter? We can't let them get away with this.

47. Cenk and the Young Jerks-in your rush to judgement in order to make political hay, you missed many inconsistencies in this story. That is not responsible journalism.
There are many differences between the ABC News report, the Civil Lawsuit filed May 16, 2007, and the journal of Jones from her Jamie Leighs Foundation we site.
First inconsistency starts in the Civil Complaint which says that while she was still employeed by KBR in Houston her immediate supervisor, Eric Iler,utilized his influence over her to extract sexual favors from her.Eventually, Jamie obtained evidence of Sexual Harrassment and demanded she be moved to another department, and eventually she was transferred to Camp Hope, Iraq.
Iler's then tried to follow her to Iraq and regain his position as her supervisor, even though this would further the allegations that KBR created the "boys will be boys" enviorment where sexual harassment was excused, if not encouraged.
ABC News for some reason did not mention any of this in the news story.
There is also a serious discrepency between the ABC News story, the civil case documents and Jone's own account from her Jamie Leigh Foundation web site as to what happened to the RAPE KIT.
ABC News that an examination by Army Doctors showed she had been raped "both vaginally and anally", but that the rape kit disappeared after it was handed over to KBR security officers.
Absent from the Civil Case original or ammended filing documents was any claim that the RAPE Kit was ever handed over to KBR security by US Army medical personel as stated in ABC News report.
A chronological account on the Jamie Leigh Foundation web site actually REFUTES such a claim. She wrote that the US State Dept handled, lost and reclaimed some of the contents of the rape kit without any mention of any KBR personel being involved.
The 3rd claim made by ABC News was that Jones was held in a shipping container for at least 24 hours without food or water. During the time she was confined in the container, June 29-30, temps were over 110 degrees so it seems implausable anyone would survive in a container without food or water.
In the Civil Suit, she states that immediately after her physical examination by US Army Doctors, she was placed in a trailer with a bed, a shower, and a sink, but no TV, and was refused any phone calls to her family which amounted to a false imprisonment.
Cenk, your irresponsible reporting of this story could hurt this womans civil lawsuit. You should examine all the facts available before making a rush to judgement, almost gleefully, in order to make some hate driven political hay. It is no wonder that Air America has nearly zero ratings.

The story would be picked up by AP, CNN, ABC, etc. The story would have become front page news across the Country and the Justice Dept. would have to do something. Keeping it quiet for two years, got the girl no where.

Are you discrediting the rape we are discussing because of the discrepancies you posted (which I had a bit of trouble following, at times it seemed you were proving she was raped) or are you dismissing the rape claim because of the name of the accused? The issue at hand was a company cover-up of an employees-on employee rape while in a foreign country. Because it did not occur on native soil, it could not be prosecuted effectively in the regular manner, neither under the laws of the country in which it occured nor those of the country the company came from (US). Therefore it was brought forward as a civil case, but has taken 2 years to be heard. Disturbing, but at least the woman has survived and is having her day in court. SOMETHING must have happened to her for her to have to be rescued and examined by the army. Admit that at least. men like robert can use ONE DAY as a woman in such circumstances. The whole world might change, since, unfortunately, they seem to be eveywhere.

60. Gwen-My blog was merely pointing our what has stated in the News, Court Paperwork, and Victims website. Cenk should have checked the story before airing on the radio and this blog site, and before saying the employees of KBR Raped Jones, not aledged rape. Cenk said Rape kit was missing, but it is not missing and it has important evidence which can help prove or disprove what happened. There are many more facts in the story which we do not know as of yet before we can judge what actually happened. We can demand that something be done, that if a rape happened, that people are arrested and tried in court.
Yes Gwen I believe woman get raped and also believe many woman are raped and are afraid to come forward and report the rape.
