The good guys are suppose to be better than torture, use American super power brains, to fight the angry Arabs without resorting to pre-WWII tactics. Remember, our grand fathers didn't fight for that. Today with technology and science, we have an upper hand. We beat the friggen Nazi's, these islamofascists (or whatever you call 'em) should be a breeze, why are you bankrupting your country? You should be fighting for a world that people want to be apart of, not one that we are afraid of. How on earth did the great American democracy descend into such a dividing war.
Not long ago, Bill Clinton was President, but he was almost booted out of office because of a blowjob and/or a lie about a blowjob (he lied Under Oath! OMG.) Don't tell me America is going to roll over and let the douchebag George W Bush get away with this. A little birdy told me there was a man running for President trying to impeach the Bush, hmmm. Please enlighten me, by explaining to this Canuck why Clinton got impeached and Bush is still ruling the world?
...just being honest here, but these types of people scare me.

1. TO ALL WHO THINK "TORTURE" IS WRONG-
Well, it is - BUT - you've got to keep a few things in mind: - what "torture" is is debateable - I mean, all debriefings, etc. can be torture - heck, a simple arrest can be borderline torture so...
The real thing here is when/how the most EXTREME measure are used/required. Like do we use the most extreme measures on every suspected extremist arrested? No. But do we attempt to use the most immediate, borderline torture methods on those detainees who we know have information that could prevent attacks/save lives (like the 9/11 mastermind KSM, Ramzi Yousef, bin al Shibh, Abu Zubaydah, etc.) --- yes, and we know that the specific use of certain techniques on specific individuals, in quick time, elicitied information which would not have been gotten otherwise - and it saved lives.
The thing is having properly trained folks, top down, who know what techniques to use and how to use them. We need not "armchair" QB interrogations we know nothing about. We need to lean on ethics training for those in positions to determine when the most extreme measures are used, and used appropriately - not ban anything totally, blindly - this would unfairly hamstring our whole process.
Just my thoughts, Maxx.

2. Jeff,
Never read your stuff before and didn't realize you were such a bitch. American's never engaged in torture? Brother, we've ALWAYS engagaed in the most viscious fomrs of it, since Pre-Revolution days. And as far as Olberwoman is concerned, I've never seriously considered beating a man to death with a two inch penis, but if I ever meet him I may just cut his off and do the deed.
W is a hero. Get over it.

3. Jeff,
It's my opinion that the Geneva Convention doesn't apply, because terrorists don't fit the definition of a POW. They are not a part of a regimented militia. They don't wear uniforms. They do not fight on behalf of a government or a faction that is trying to overthrow a government or declare independence.
Using those definitions, members of the IRA, the PLO, and the KLO would be deemed POWs and subject to the protections of the Geneva Convention, just as members of Saddam's army are also covered.
So, torture is permissible. Besides, it's not as if we're giving the terrorists bamboo manicures or boiling egg-drop soup colonics.
As Fred Thompson said, if intelligence points to a prisoner having information about planes to harm Americans, then we need to do whatever it takes to get him to talk.
Why are we spending so much money on Iraq and fighting terrorism? We are dealing with a region that breeds terrorism, because so many young men have no future. They don't have a say in how their governments are selected or what policies they undertake, and they don't have much in the way of econimic opportunities. Remember that Mohammed Atta was an architect, yet he had to leave Egypt for Germany to find a job, and that was only as a draftsman.
Look at Northern Ireland. All policy was being dictated from London, and the economy paled in comparison to England, Scotland, and Wales. Now that Northern Ireland enjoys a fair amount of self rule, and the economy is booming, terrorism is a thing of the past.
This kind of change must be broght to the Middle East, and Iraq is the starting point.
As for Bill Clinton, lying under oath is perjury and a felony. Scooter Libby and Martha Stewart were convicted of lying under oath, and Martha served time in federal prison for it.
Besides, the only person entitled to give Bill Clinton a blowjob is Hillary, and not some intern that was young enough to be Bill's daughter. And Bill was only entitled to blowjobs in the family quarters and not the oval office. No wonder W. had new carpeting installed.
As for Dennis Kucinich, he is an idiot. My wife lived in surburban Cleveland, when Kucinich was Mayor of Cleveland. He was absolutely clueless about what was going on. She can't figure out how he got elected to Congress, and we can't figure out why he won't quit running for President.
The point of running for President isn't getting a message out. The point is to win, and if winning doesn't seem possible, then stop running. Dennis obviously isn't smart enough to realize that, which is why he can't be taken seriously.

4. America has become a "rogue state" under George W. We no longer stand for human rights or abide by international law. In 7 short years the United States has become pariah of the world. Sadly, we are a country of cowards who do not care.

5. Why don't you just stop crying and go back to bed. Even the rabid haters get sick of the recycled whine and juvenile namecalling bit...

6. Joe V...George W bodybag Bush a hero! LOL! You're about as stupid as the retard we call President.

7. Our forefathers didn't risk their necks to be concerned with what the rest of the world thinks about us.....It's you liberal weaklings they are laughing at. Hmmm cuious that Iran stopped their nuclear weapons program in 2003...what was going on in 2003 you think that may have changed their minds?
Memphis Rampage at 12:45PM on Dec 13th 2007
8. Memphis - It is a bit important to consider how other countries think of us in light that many countries have nuclear weapons and their own armed forces. How many fronts would you like to fight a war on. Furthermore there may come a point in time where we need help either at war or bailing us out of the vast debt we are currently accumulating. Public Relations among other countries has significant importance to national security. And quit playing the weak card to justify your ignorance. I can not tell you how absolutely sick to death I am of neocons calling everyone who is not – weak. McCain is against torture and for PR, you want to call him weak? Keep in mind he was a decorated soldier and endured a prison camp.

9. Jeff Once upon a time, recently YouTube put together or aired a video that made fun of the King of Thailand, and was seen in Thailand. The rest of the world is not like the USA and do not have a great sense of humor when you make fun of their country or leaders. YouTube was called to task, refused to appologize and make the Thai's happy.
Thailand then blocked out YouTube, could not get their programing into Thailand. That lasted I guess for a 1/2 a year or so till YouTube realized it was not a joke.
Jeff, as a Canadian, you have no rights under US law to say what you want when ever you want about the USA or its leaders. You should be cut off from being on AOL.
Jeff, if you and YouTube believe you can say and do whatever you want whenever you want without someone being very very insulted, go insult the Muslime Religion, then make sure your doors are locked and sleep with one eye open.

10. Jeff, I apologize for these first three posts, at least. These sorts of stooges are a dying breed. Just like some say that you can hear the corn grow at that height of summer, I think we can hear the small sounds of reason awakening in people all over the country. And with that, the sound of these stooges, these would be bad asses, dying off in droves.
I'm not 100% sure of Ron Paul yet, but I think I like his revolution. Someday we will be the sort of nation that Canadians can be proud of!-tom

11. Did some dysenteric amoeba here say that Bush is a fucking hero? I am certain that some within Germany thought Hitler was, too, right up until the end when they paraded German citizens past the concentration camps and the German populace all heaved a cry of "We didn't know! We didn't know!"
brandon at 1:17PM on Dec 13th 2007
12. Another moron said "Jeff, as a Canadian, you have no rights under US law to say what you want when ever you want about the USA or its leaders. You should be cut off from being on AOL. "
Bullshit. The world can have its opinions of the United States, AND SHOULD. Goddamn, you people make me sick to my stomach.
brandon at 1:20PM on Dec 13th 2007
13. Alright Jeff, I've unfortunately read most of the other posts. It appears you are being ganged up on by these troglodytes(sp?). Here's a little song I like to sing that my Dad taught me. I think it's a Berlin number. I've take some liberties with the lyric.
'Fuck 'em all, fuck 'em all
Fuck the long and the short and the tall'
It goes on in that vein.

14. Your prose have all of the professionalism of a 5th grader. I can't believe you would try to make a point using this language. Do you think that intelligent people are going to take you seriuosly when you call the president a douchebag? I suppose this kind of rhetoric has an audience and maybe I am out of touch with current trends in political dialogue, but you will excuse me when I say that it is precisely this kind of juvenile personal attacks which rob you of any authority in making your point.

15. The real question Jeff is what do we have to look forward to in the next 400 or so days ? Another September surprise looming in our futures ? I hope the good people of Canada learn from the mistakes we've made here in the U.S. and don't ever repeat them. I would be very nervous as a Canadian of the 800 pound gorilla to your south making inroads into your country via more trade agreements and business mergers. And that gorilla is trained and managed by George W. Bushs' Flying Circus,INC., a for profit (only) neocapitalist con-job. As to your query "Please enlighten me, by explaining to this Canuck why Clinton got impeached and Bush is still ruling the world?" is because it's what the military-industrial complex wanted and got. The real power in this country no longer rests in the hands of it's citizens, although 50 years of homegrown propaganda has duped many into believing otherwise. Eisenhower warned us, and we failed to listen.
