WASHINGTON (AP) - The House approved an intelligence bill Thursday that would prohibit the CIA from using waterboarding, mock executions and other harsh interrogation methods. The 222-199 vote sent the measure to the Senate, which still must act before it can go to President Bush. The White House has threatened a veto...Associated Press...

1. I don't get it, man. Waterboarding has been defined as torture; people have been tried, convicted, and sentenced as war criminals for waterboarding in the past; the U.S. waterboards its prisoners; yet somehow Americans feel we are immune to the rule of international law which condemns those who carry out waterboarding?

3. This reminds me of "sub rosa" or under the rosa. It was an ancient symbol of secrecy. Star Chamber, from Webster's New World Dictionary (refers to stars painted on chamber's ceiling;lofty, above the people). notorious for conducting secret (sub voce) sessions, without jury, and for its harsh anad arbitrary judgments and its use of torture to force confessions;2 inquisatorial body.
Need more be said?

4. I'd like to thank the families of the 222 recently deceased who donated their spines to the House of Representatives.

5. Jeff, for some reason I didn't see you posted along with the other bloggers. Was concerned that perhaps they may have let you go for telling too much of the truth. Glad to see you're still here, and yes torture is wrong in the eyes of any reasonable person, to stay on topic here. Do you know anything about your not being listed with the others?

6. Reminds me of the joyful day in which they passed the resolution to invade Iraq. Jeff, if your family is being held by terrorist we'll be sure to let the authorities know that we should simply negotiate and if that fails well you can sleep good at night knowing you didn't offend or cause pain to anyone. That would be a great legacy.
As for me, if they have my kids, I'm all about the water boarding. If we have the wrong guy, I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to him. Ironically, if he has kids himself, he'll probably understand. I sure you don't get that.

8. So, I guess all that chanting about waterboaring being torture was just lying lefty spew?
What we have here are PC libearls with a list of techniques used to save American lives, that will now ... possibliy ... be legally called torture. What next, go back and hang the CIA operatives that used waterboarding on two top Al Qeada, getting information that might have saved their own limp Lefty lives?
We can survive Al qeada, but can we survive liberals and their Aid and Comfort for Al qeada? Inquiring Americans want to know.

Is that what you really thought? Go live in a country more your style ... any soicalist country, and there you will find your concerns are real ... not imagined. You really should do something about that ugly anti-American hatred of yours. Serioulsy, you blame the US first, last, and always liberal traitors make me want to puke.

10. #8 - Thomas J Gassett - Soemone came up with an interesting question to help frame the discussion, "Wwould you allow another person or government to do "X" to an American citizen?" If the answer is no, you cannot do it.

11. Thomas J Gassett, Americans who support torture are the REAL trators here...they endanger our troops, and they endanger our good name. They TRULY hate America, and everything it's suppose to stand for. Whenever you say "Liberals Hate America", or that we "Blame America" first, what you really mean is that we are Blamming Bush and the Neo-Cons for what there policies have done to our country...and sense that is what you want America to be(a Neo-con America), it drives you absolutely crazy. We are not the ones with "Anti-American Hatred" Thomas J Gassett, YOU are! Go look in the mirror my friend...THEN you can free to puke! ;)

12. hey T gasset!
/waves
just a note here..
waterboarding was considered torture and was illegal by article 3 of the geneva convention, and by our very own national laws, made solvent in 1946.
but dont you worry your pretty little conservative head.
bush pushed through the MCA of 2006 to make anybody who engaged in waterboarding prisoners IMMUNE!and it was RETROACTIVE!
praise jesus!
go ahead..
give us a big sigh of relief.
feel better?
ok,
now what this amendment is about is making any FURTHER waterboarding illegal,
which of course bush could care less about now.
he's IMMUNE,
and so are his neo-con architects of the iraq war,
and the C.I.A,and the N.S.A and the F.B.I,
and of course military interrogators.
sighs..bush is so dreamy..
and i think the world loves our hypocritical president too../bats eyes
that help you T gasset?
good,im glad.
have a nice day!
till next time..peace.

15. When this argument was brought to my attention initially I thought why in the world is water boarding torture? They cut our citizens' heads off and we can't even "pretend" to drown them? My opinion has been modified since my initial one. Mostly because I don't want to be even on the same level as they are. They are terrorists and if we stoop to their level or even one just one step above it it makes us as bad as they are. I like the question would you want it done to your child. If you can honestly answer yes then perhaps you are the reason why we as a nation are hated by virtually every other country in the world, because you arrogantly believe that you are somehow justified in doing the same thing to others that you are pissed off at them for doing to you. I, personally, can not justify that way of thinking and therefore think that waterboarding should be banned as an interrogation technique.
