The quotes in the video below clearly show Chris Matthews has it out for Hillary Clinton, and they also show why:
Out of all the quotes in the segment above, I think this is the one that best describes Matthews aversion to Hillary Clinton:
"I think a lot of people pick a president they figure would sort of like them if they knew them. And if you are overweight or have a problem with your diet -- and I certainly did for years -- you may figure Hillary doesn't like people like me. She's looking down on me. What do you think? Howie, she's looking down on me, that woman. She thinks she's better than me." (October 19)
That's Matthews problem in a nutshell. That's why it's personal with him. It's not about Senator Clinton, it's about Chris Matthews' own issues.
Here is the Media Matters story with even more quotes on Hillary and Rudy. It's an open and shut case. Media Matters is driving these guys crazy just by writing down what they say and sharing it with people. It's really quite a brilliant strategy.

32. Chris Matthews wants a big, handsome man to be President.
Sounds simple, but it's true.

Don't be hating, susanlynn.
Oh wait, that's about all you republicans are good for. Carry on.

34. I am amazed that MSNBC continues to let Chris degrade Hillary Clinton. It consumes almost all of his show. It is one thing for him to have so much hatred for the Clinton's but another for the station to let it continue day after day. His guests are not allowed to answer his questions as he answers them himself the way he wants it. I'm surprised he gets anyone to come on his show. When he comes on I switch the channel as do my family & friends. They agree that his obsession is above & beyond what the station should allow.

36. Bill Clinton lied to the American people during ststing,"I did not have sex with that women!". Hillary Clinton lied about Whitewater and blasted the character of the various women that Bill had sex with. She had absoloutly no experience in leadership but a lot in dictatorship! She is vindictive and believes "The end justifys the means!" Legal or illegal! How has the Clintons been able to amass a net worth of $50,000,000.00 in a eight year period? If they paid the tax on this amount they would have had to have an income of $13,000.000.00 a year for the time period! As far as I have been able to discern Bill Clinton is not employed and spends his time lecturing at some outrageous fee, but not enough to accumulate a $50,000,000.00 net worth! Where did all this mpney come from when they ststed they could not afford to pay for their attorneys in the Whitewater matter???

37. The repugnicans spent about $50 million investgigating Whitewater and came up with ZILCH to pin on the Clintons.
The red-publicans spent about $50 million investigating Clinton and embarrassed themselves by impeaching Clinton (unsuccessfully) for lying about an extra-marial dalliance.
After nearly a couple of decades of red-publican witch-hunts, you guys haven't come up with diddly.
Only paranoia.
If the Clinton's were even half the evil geniuses you wackos portray them as, they'd be ruling the world.

38. Matthews also attempted to run for Congress as a Democrat from Pennsylvania, but lost the Democratic nomination to Joshua Eilberg in the Democratic primary in 1974.

This is much more recent. He's a republican now, this minute, not thirty years ago.
Last year I heard him identify himself as a republican, not that it was any mystery. A couple of years ago I heard him say 'we're all neocons now'. I'd never heard of the clown before 911.
Regardless of what betty said, this is just fact. I don't pay much attention to betty, but when she calls me she can call me Al.
