Listen to the quotes below to see how much Edwards sounds like he is campaigning to be Senator Obama's running mate:
Of course, Edwards denies this is his intent, but don't they all? LBJ said he'd rather drink warm piss water than become JFK's vice president ... until of course he accepted the position. Edwards seems to be playing his hand a little more open.
This is the right time to strike a deal with Obama because if Edwards steps out of the race, Obama can beat Hillary a lot easier (it would be very surprising if most of Edwards voters didn't go to Obama). But if Edwards is still in the race on Super Tuesday, then Senator Clinton can wrap it up before the Edwards' voters could make a difference.
With this kind of leverage, it appears on the surface that Edwards is pressing hard to get the #2 slot. It's actually a smart move. A comeback for Edwards seems implausible now (though not impossible; if he comes in third in South Carolina, it then pretty much becomes impossible). His supporters are leaning to Obama anyway, so he couldn't swing the race to Hillary even if he wanted to. So, his best play is to lobby Obama for the vice president position in return for dropping out before Super Tuesday.
In fact, it's so logical, I'd be surprised if they didn't do it. Edwards gains the vice presidency and a foot in the door in the Oval Office. And Obama gains the presidency (one person who consolidates the whole anti-Hillary vote would be very, very hard to beat even if they didn't have Obama's current momentum). That deal is a little too sweet for either side to pass up.

1. I don't know the context of Edwards' remarks, but it sounds, to me, as if he might be going for the black vote. Obama doesn't necessarily have the majority of the black vote. He also doesn't have the nomination in the bag. If Obama takes a tumble, black voters might be looking for someone other than Hillary.
Probably wishful thinking on my part. What do I know? I thought democrats won the last two elections.

5. The fact are that Democrat Politicians (Obama, Clinton, Edwards, et al...) promise a Utopian paradise through the use of Government powers and confiscatory taxation to redistribute income and wealth from hard working middle class Americans to the cast of low life characters seen daily on any episode of Jerry Springer or Cops. These promises are motivated by Democrat Politicians selfish political desires to purchase their own re-elections with taxpayer dollars. The premise of the Democratic Party is to reward Sloth and Subsidize failure at the expense of Higher Productivity and Increased Incomes. This very fact alone has killed the savings ability of Middle Class Americans.
It amazes me that the useful idiots cry daily about loosing their rights to the Patriot Act yet are so eager to give their rights to double talking Democrat Politicians by bestowing upon Congress rights that are not granted them in the Constitution. Those who would sacrifice their financial freedom for the Political Prostitutes Promise of Big Government health care and retirement security have embarked on the path to the Democrat Plantation.
Plutarch warned, "The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits."

6. Paul,
No matter who gets in the White House next January, none could be worse than the current occupant. If Democrats do win in November, which is probable at this point, you can blame one person...George W. Bush. An HONEST repubican would agree with that.

7. The key to victory for any Democrat is Unity. The eventual winner will need to overcome fears of race and gender while inviting the Party to heal as one facet is forced to trust the other two. Blacks have earned a ticket on the ticket, but Obama hasn't the qualifications for the top spot. He inhaled, snorted, and threatened Pakistan. Women have earned a spot too, but Hillary is the wrong woman to champion their cause as Bill Clinton's puppet and those tears. Bin Laden doesn't give a damn about tears and if she isn't serious about "Illegal" immigration she need not apply. This leaves Edwards and the angry White men. If Obama realizes that he's not Martin Luther King and he makes the sacrifice for his race, Blacks can unite behind Edwards and win everywhere. The race is a referendum on Bush's stubborness, not Obama's Blackness. The only thing that makes the Clintons look qualified is the failure of President Bush. Who would beleive that anyone could screw up worse than Clinton? He dropped trow in the White House and that's a low standard to beat. Bush blew it by reading a book on 9-11. Where were our defenses? Facts are stubborn things. Edwards didn't blow 2004. Kerry did with Bill Clinton.

What a simple cliche! Nothing like dumbing it down for conservatives.
There are strict prohibitions against,"ambulance chasing."
If you're ever involved in a litigation, I'm sure you'll urge your attorney to do a half-assed job. Any attorney would be disbarred for not seeking the maximum damages for his client. Ninety-five percent of all litigations are settled before going to court. When cases do go to court, JURIES determine the awards.

11. CN, I believe he was referring to the lawyers who literally seek out injured people in order to launch ridiculous and time consuming lawsuits against innocent parties in order to make a few (thousand) bucks. It is dishonest work at best and is what is causing the continual rise of health care and driving good doctors out of high-lawsuit areas (take Illinois). I am not saying that Edwards is one of those special contributors to our society, but I would surely vote against him if he was (especially an Obama Edwards duo). The simple fact that they are 'not Bush' in no way qualifies them for presidency, for a democrat, this seems to be the lowest of standards.
"What USA does not need is an ambulance chasing lawyer in the White House."
I'll tell you exactly the United States does NOT need: inexperience. When a candidate has not had enough time to prove (by votes or actions) that he actually believes in his policies, then how do know what he will do in office?
Parker at 5:33PM on Jan 14th 2008
12. Big Guy,
It wouldn't matter if Edwards dropped out of the race and his supporters moved over to Obama. Hillary is "The One". Now, I've never voted for a Democrat for president in my life. I like a real scary person in the White House...Nixon, Reagan, Bush 41 and Bush 43....great presidents that scared the pants off people.
And Hillary...good grief..crying on TV and saying her feeling's were hurt because no one liked her.....? The president of the most hated and feared nation in the world crying?
Go Rudy!

14. David S.:
For the record: President Bush sucks. The "Compassionate Conservatism" crap is nothing but code for "Lets Spend More than Democrats to Buy Votes with Taxpayer Money". Bush extended the "Olive Branch of Bi-Partisanism" by allowing the Murdering Alcoholic Ted Kennedy Democrat-MA to write major legislation (Immigration debacle, S-CHIP, No Child Left Behind, etc...) and he got the "Phallic Pole of Partisan Vitriol" in return.
Now, when will an honest liberal democrat explain why the Conservative Republicans must be the ones to abandon their principals in the name of bi-partisanship?
Paul Sparcello at 5:53PM on Jan 14th 2008
15. Paul:
Who is asking you to abandon your "principles?" No one I can see. As to Bush and his "bi-partisanship" this is a man who has pandered and catered to the base of his party for 8 years. He largely ignores Democrats. Sure, there was the immgration bill - it wasn't just Ted Kennedy. McCain and Bush and other Republicans supported it. It was far from a perfect bill, but at least it was a start. Without comprehensive immigration reform, things will continue with illegal immigration just as they are. I don't care how tough the Republicans talk - nothing will get done without both parties cooperating.
Most people want both parties to get along, Paul, why do you think Obama and McCain are gaining popularity? I find it sad that you want Washington to be gridlock. Americans are fed up with that.
Give Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton some credit - both knew how to work with their opposing parties because they had to. And things got done.
This president just sucks at it.
