Last night, Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) took to the House floor to urge the House Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment hearings into Vice President Cheney for "high crimes and misdemeanors."Here again is Wexler's website which now has over 194,000 signatures for Impeachment. Here is video of the Wexler speech delivered to the House Floor.

1. Please, Please, Mr. Wexler. Just let this go. We only have to endure another year of Bush and Cheney. Democrats will seal their doom for the White House in 2008 if they pursue this madness.
Hopefully, fellow Dems in Congress will ignore this.
The country does not want Bush impeached. Get it? No proof of high crimes and misdemeanors. There is no Richard Nixon type crime here. Bush will leave office unpopular and that is fine with me. If you push the country in a direction they do not want to go, there will be a backlash. And the Dems will lose.

2. "...Wexler's website which now has over 194,000 signatures for Impeachment." And that is less than the population of Boise Idaho, Garland Texas, or Birmingham Alabama. When Wexler gets 50 million or shoot, even 1 million signatures, he might attract more attention from the MSM. For now, it's seen as yet another publicity ploy by a man who co-sponsors more legislation than almost anyone else and is thus getting as much attention as it deserves.

3. It is about time, that the crimes of this administration are brought out. Demand an accounting of both Bush and Cheney and make the republicans vote to exonerate the most corrupt office holders in our nation's history. Show them as corrupt and in fact treasonous.

4. There's plenty of proof pointing out how Bush has lied and how he's hidden contradictory evidence in making his case for war.
I think letting Bush off the hook for these crimes would send a terrible message in a nation that supposedly is one of laws. Bush should pay, and I hope Wexler gets the ball rolling on showing the world that Americans do, in fact, hold their leaders accountable.

5. The reason there are not many articles on this is because Wexler is a nut who is not taken seriously even among the partisan left. The fact that you may not be willing to accept is that there is no evidence that the VP did anything impeachable. People like Wexler calling for Cheney’s impeachment should put up evidence or shut up. They will, of course, do neither.

7. Nixon's crimes barely register on the scale with the treasonous actions the Bush-Cheney administration are clearly guilty of. All the neo-con sheep out there who decry the idea of impeaching Bush and Cheney et al are the same ones who couldn't wait to impeach Clinton over the most trivial of accusations. Wexler couldn't be more right. Let the rule of law prevail!

8. TwentyXX - The difference is that Clinton commited a crime whereas the Bush administration is just following policies you don't approve of. One is impeachable the other is not.

9. What a self-centered ass. If there were any impeachable evidence against Bush or Cheney, someone with a lot more credibility and clout would be supporting his lame assertions. I am with Greg. Implementing policies that drive moveOn.org and Airhead America listeners crazy is not impeachable. Lying to a Federal Grand Jury is. Why don't you do the whole country a favor and spend your time getting Cindy Sheehan elected in Nancy's seat in LaLa land. Focus on the lies and overblown promises of your Speaker, Harry Ried and Rahm and Charlie.

10. Hey Hoard,
Impeaching a president is difficult...in any country. Bill Clinton, is the only elected president in the history of the United States to have been impeached. He was impeached on December 19, 1998 by the House of Representatives on grounds of perjury to a grand jury and obstruction of justice.
Bush, on the other hand, has a lot of unpopular policies.

11. The VP and President are both war criminals They have repeatedly violeted the Geneva Conventions. It is well known they endorse torture (a war crime) maybe some of you should take a look at the fact that bush and cheney have shaped their policy to protect themselves- no other reason. Just like when Hitler enacted the Enabling Act, When the PATRIOT act went into place, the law changed to suit their needs to create "legal black holes" like gitmo where "The Geneva Conventions dont matter" They are War Criminals and SHOULD be tried as such. On a side note Mr. Cheney himself is guilty of High Treason for his Role in revealing the identity of a certain CIA Agent (Valerie Plume, if youve been living under a rock, has officially filed charges against cheney for this.

12. I think that impeachment has been discussed quite a lot in past postings.
There are quite a few questions out about this administrations dealings and I would like to see some answers through an official investigation. Straight answers under oath. The administration would fight that tooth and nail as they have already had people refused to testify under oath or just refuse to testify: results of a lesson learned from Bill Clinton.
Unfortunately, it seems the Congress is very spineless as a whole and forgot it is supposed to be an equal part of the government. Hard to have an investigation when you stop at the first, second, or third "no." Or don't even start.

13. 1. Lied about Nigerian uranium connection, thus
betraying the American people.
2. Outed a covert CIA operative, working on
weapons of mass destruction mind you, for
political revenge.
3. Spied on US Citizens
4. Lied about Iraqi freedom which is a betrayal
to all the members of the US Military,
especially those killed or wounded in action;
it's really privatization of oil and the war
machine.
5. Politicised the Department of Justice.
6. Committed(ing) torture in violation of US and
international law (which places all US Citizens
at increased risk).
7. Used the 9/11/01 attack on the Twin Towers to
manipulate The People's anger and grief for
political and financial (see Halliburton) gain.
8. Has subverted the US Constitution with signing
statements.
Impeach, Impeach, Impeach.

14. Rob, great comments and right on. The apologists for the last 7 years of fascist rule have staked our past and future on a blowjob. A FUCKING BLOWJOB. Because they didn't get one themselves.
Our constitution, our civil rights, our national debt, and our world reputation have been pissed away by this administration, with plenty of laws broken, and we need to call them on the carpet for all of it.

treason during wartime is an executable offense. Outing a secret operative during wartime could get them both shot.
the language says 'high crimes and misdemeanors'. Clintons summons was unconstitutional in the first place and starr's authority was nonexistent as the event was unrelated to whitewater.
What's more, he was tried and EXONERATED. He didn't commit the crime.
No one knows what a 'high' misdemeanor is, but just the nixon impeachment articles would suffice to remove bush as well.
As I recall the main thrust of those were the overuse of signing statements, and bush has done twice as many as all the rest of the presidents including Nixon put together.
You could add another hundred pages of criminal and treasonous conduct as well as dereliction of duty multiple times as the actual articles introduced will reflect. There are hundreds of pages of high crimes like treason, and misdemeanors like criminal negligence and dereliction of duty.
There's plenty to roast both of them.
What I hope is that they are prosecuted once out of office so this doesn't happen again. What republicans have turned this country into is unforgivable.
Look at who shows up here - the dregs of the approval polls, the bottom 10-15% of the us who actually endorse their loss of freedom and our economic, educational and national health decline to third world status and are happy with whatever mess of pottage they got for it.
Look what they got us into and what they've done with the economy and national security. they should have been impeached in '06 and they should be now. It would be an excellent morale boost for the entire countyry, or at least the 80% that can't stand the direction we're going and who's taking us there. It would be a great way of giving the National Finger to these elitist neoliberal republican national sellouts.
