In this video we explain the background to the Chris Matthews apology to Hillary Clinton, show the actual apology and then explain why it has much larger ramifications:
Maybe we helped to push him toward this apology with our commentary on AOL Newsbloggers as well (you can see and read our analysis of all of his negative comments toward Hillary Clinton here). I doubt it, but hey, we tried. And he wound up doing the right thing.

16. #12 - M2D5 - Thanks for the thoughtful response. Sometimes it is difficult for a reader to tell the difference between cold water to wake her/him to up and a personal attack. The reaction to each is quite different.
It appears that I am part of the minority that hopes the interchange between commenters might sway the uncommitted and that civility does that better. From the state of our Presidential race, I should know better.

19. I lost a lot of respect for Chris, and stopped watching his show. Why? Because he was hammering her unmercifully and unfairly, all the while using his show to tell the Obama campaign how to attack her and beat her. He was constantly railing at the Obama people about how to "go after her". I was offended by his obvious and intense bias, and how blatantly he was using his show as a soap-box to rally his viewers to the other candidates he liked. Chris Matthews seems to have no qualms about using his public forum to try to influence the presidential election, even if it means using propaganda and slurs.

"Because he was hammering her unmercifully and unfairly,"
Has anyone noticed that ever since the Clintons took over at the White House how the term "fair" seemed to be slightly overworked, whenever there was disagreement with their agenda. Nothing was ever right or wrong but was deemed "fair" or "unfair". Must be easier to come up with a definition for the word "fair". If you want to change the definition to the opposite just use "unfair". Like in baseball, the batter did not strike out, the pitcher threw the ball "too fast" for the batter to hit. That was unfair!

21. I'd take Matthew's (former) thoughts further-the Clinton "success" has been the result of a direct and willing exchange of personal dignity for political power. Her "carrer" has been nothing more sophisticated than a backroom payoff and she's done nothing to earn any office/position she's ever had. That's what makes it hilarous to watch feminist groups line up to support her.
It's no shock that after stating a truth obvious to all, Matthews has to apoligize. He has to make sure that he tows the dem-lackey line at msnbc as well as regain his place securely in Hilly's lap.
Just another dem that stands for absolutely nothing...

22. Chris Matthews is a sexist pig, who is probably picking out his valentine for Obama right now. Hillary Clinton is the MOST qualified candidate period, not just among Democrats. However, Obama is the least qualified candidate. I know because I voted for him for the U.S. Senate and he's done SQUATT! If he wins it'll just be another case of a less- qualified male getting a promotion over a better qualified female. But of course, that is why he wants to keep the FOCUS on RACE and not his Sexist comments, like referring to Senator Clinton as "having teas" with world leaders. I was watching some of the women in back of him, and they DID NOT LOOK HAPPY! We know Hillary is getting pilloried by the male dominated media, and NH women finally said ENOUGH! Matthews really needs to be fired. He's a dinosaur. Give Em HELL HILLARY!

Now to respond to this, I shall get down into the sty with this individual

25. Tim Russert of Meet the Press is another one who purposely skews his interviews to Meet the Agenda of his personal political leanings. Often playing only a snipett or edited tape he achieves his personal attack to the complete disdain of his educated viewers.
Matthews-can't stand him-yet I tune in to maintain a vigil of who is saying what, what new lies and slander are being pushed down the voters throats and learn what might be newsworthy information. Chris should only learn to place his question and then SHUT THE HELL UP and permit a complete answer to be given.
His obvious attacks on Clinton and providing what he would advise the Obama campaign to put out are tantamount to siding with one while destroying the other per the Matthews agenda. His appology comes very late, only weight would be IF he has actually learned to temper his personal political agenda and actualize his words of being fair.
As it is Matthews and Russert are both well-UNBALANCED!

26. I have never had any respect for Chris Matthews and I have lost all respect for Tim Russert, to bash a person unfairly, they both mush feel threat by an intelligent woman, that could be the president. When you have O'Reilly from Fox News weighing in on how MSNBC is bashing Hllary unfairly for no reason, it is time to listen.
Did you see Hillary on Meet the Press, she stood her ground and clean old Tim Russert clock. Go Hillary!

27. FINALLY Chris Matthews gets something right--and then he goes and apologizes! Yes, he worked for Jimmy Carter. AND why won't the Clintons release the thousands and thousands of memos and papers that would show just how much Hillary was or was not involved in Bill's White House? Judicial Watch has to take them to court to get anything released!

29. I wish it were only Chris Matthews who needed to apologize to Hillary, to women, to blacks, and to the entire electorate.
I am SO SICK of seeing these heads-up-their-own- a$$es pundits, a whole bevy of them on Meet the Press right now, with their B.S. biased GOSSIP and innuendo about whether or not they feel "comfortable" with Hillary, or whether they like her.
WHO CARES??? You jerks, and yes I'm looking at your giant pumpkin head this time, Russert, not Matthews'-- are supposed to be asking questions about policy on economics, trade, education, the social welfare net, labor, outsourcing, the mortgage crisis, immigration, war. And then you're supposed to TRY to at least FEIGN objectivity (look it up), not sit around congratulating yourselves on how great your opinions are, or wax philosophical over whether you want Obama to be your best black friend.
As Charlie Rangle, the only voice of reason, said :"It's not about what makes you feel good. It's about what's good for the nation."
These incredibly wealthy pundits are SOOOO out of touch with the day to day realities of the average American. And they're still such a white boys' club. They want to feel all liberated about race because it doesn't touch them, whereas women, uh, if they're lucky, DO! They actually said a black man as president would be new, but a woman wouldn't. Did I miss the first U.S. woman president? And their contentions-- that Edwards "divides" the black vote-- implying a monolithic black population that walk, talk and think alike. WHAT insulting DRIVEL!!!!

30. I can't believe how lucky I was to see this website. Here I thought that only I thought Chris Matthews and Tim Russert were so anti Hillary. I kept yelling at the tv and having my blood pressure go up. Now I know, it wasn't me. IT WAS THEM! I am so tired of hearing men call we women who like Hillary, feminists. I am a women who would like to see a women in the White House because no women could do worse than the idiot who has been there for seven years. However, Hillary has proven herself to be a strong women with convictions that mostly make sense, at least to me. I am, therefore, in her corner because she mirrors what I feel about most issues. I say to the Chris's and Tim's of the world-When you handle the world and all the problems that exist then you can let us know your opinions-yes opinions. Until then, just report the news, not try to tell people how to vote. Also, CNN is so for Huckerbee that he need not have any money. They give him all the air time for free.
