The quote below by Huckabee is so insane, I still can't quite believe it. If he really means what he says, he wants the turn the US into a Christian Taliban state, where we would be ruled by what Mike Huckabee believes is "God's standards." And how would Huckabee know what God wants?
Here is the unbelievable quote from Huckabee:
Please tell me Republicans aren't seriously considering nominating this guy. But this is only one of four crazy stories coming out of the Huckabee camp today. First, you can read about how he wants to change the constitution here. Then, read how he signed a document saying women should "submit" to their husbands. Then, read about how one of his senior advisers thinks we should post a cop in front of every mosque (imagine if he said that about synagogues) and that genocide against Sunnis in Iraq would be acceptable.
Then read about how he wants to stop all immigration from any country that sponsors or harbors terrorists. That would mean we would end immigration from "allies" like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Pakistan. It might even mean we end immigration from Germany where some of the 9/11 bombers lived and that recently released a defendant involved in the 9/11 plot (because we wouldn't cooperate and give them evidence we collected from our detainees, probably because we tortured them). In fact, you know the country where all of the 9/11 bombers lived right before they committed their heinous act of terror? The United States.
The man has to think before he talks. His own camp had to back away from his last statement about ending immigration from all these countries. But the bigger problem seems to be that he has thought some of these things through and these crazy statements are his true opinions. Now, that's really scary.

31. I just wasted the time to view the video above.I don't know who this TYT idiot is in the video clip above, but you are a F*****G moron. There is a difference between making an amendment to the Constitution and "changing the whole Constitution." If your statement was true then the "whole Constitution" would have been changed ___ times already. I leave a blank because you are probably too stupid to fill it in without googling it. If you put that quote in context you moron, you would see that Huckabee is referring to the amendment on "definition of marriage." If you were also not a moron you would know that every religion you named in your IGNO-RANT (my new term for any time a liberal opens their mouth) is opposed to homosexuality. I just wish that Almighty God...or Allah.... or Buddah... or Krishna....or Jehovah...or whomever....would quit creating F*****G MORONS!!!!! I dare you to challenge me punk.

32. Sbanks, you stated so eloquently that you believe the notion of this nation not being founded on christianity was bullsh*t, and challenged us to find evidence to the contrary. So, the best I could find in the 2 minutes I spent looking was a treaty drafted by George Washington in 1796, and signed by John Adams in 1797. I think this qualifies as a reasonable source. It is from a treaty with Tripoli, and it begins:
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
Please read the beginning of that a few hundred times. While you can argue that George Washington and John Adams were Christian, they and the founders of this country were above all secularists. Mike Huckabee does not understand this, and unfortunately, I feel he isn't alone.

37. A Poem:
Jesus loves me, yes I know
Cause the Bible tells me so
That is all I need to hear
And so I know I'll never fear
Nothing else is in my head
Except a book by guys long dead
Science isn't telling me
What I can and cannot see
I never, ever take a look
Since I only own one book
Jesus is my only thought
When others ask me what I've bought
I’d rather pluck out both my eyes
So that I can't see the lies
That Science tells us are the truth
I think that Science is uncouth!
Telling me that things fall down
And how a cricket makes a sound
And how planets spin around the sun
And how the gears in watches run
I do not need to hear the facts
I only need religious tracts
And prayers to our Great Lord above
Who blinded me with Bible Love
It feels so good to be so dense
To live behind an iron fence
To shelter fragile minds from truth
(Indoctrinate them in their youth)
Feed them tales of God above
And all of His undying Love
And how he put things in this place
Plain as the nose there on your face
That seem to say that He's not real
That's just the lying Science deal!
He put them here to fool us guys
When we try to use our eyes
We know better, yes we do
Science is at best, untrue
At worst a strange Satanic plot
To show what is real, and what is not
Why should we care what is real?
We still have the Christian deal
Believe in God, at any cost
And look to others like we're lost
Hope for God to make it clear
When the Rapture cometh near
With nonbelievers left behind
You'll all be sorry that you whined
Of how we're descended from some beast
(I don't believe it in the least)
“No Thanks” I say to Science stuff
I think that I have had enough
Of facts and reason, Truth and Hope
I'd much prefer to be a dope.

38. Furthermore, the notion that this country was not founded as a Christian society is BULLS**T!!!. If you have documentation otherwise, I will gladly read it.
xxx
you should already have read it. Treaty of tripoli, law of the land, and jefferson's letter to the delaware baptist convention.
Find me christian support for the following principles of american government. the words of jesus will be fine here..
representational democracy
no test of faith allowed as prerequisite for oath of office (might be tough)
right to bear arms
right of habeas corpus, i.e. right to confront your accuser and right to speedy trial.
executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, all accountable to an electorate
Authority to impeach a president for high crimes and misdemeanors.
trial by jury of peers.
abolition of slavery
women suffrage
right of privacy
protection from self incrimination
copyright protection
no authority to establish a state religion.
executive term limits
checks and balances among three branches of government
bicameral legislative houses with both popular and state representation.
Add to this that in spite of the fact that they had every opportunity to mention christ or god in the constitution they DELIBERATELY AVOIDED THE REFERENCE. This was certainly not due to inattention or chance.
The use of 'creator' instead of god or deity reinforces this as a creator could as easily be nature or 'logos'.
The zeitgeist was incontestably represented in the treaty of tripoli.
I'm gonna go ahead and say this.
For people with triple digit IQ,s this shit is not hard. You all remind me of four year-olds trying to fool adults with tricks they made up themselves.
Without neoteny, it's not cute, it's just childish and has been overworked for centuries. You really ought to try something new or at least something else. If I sound impatient it's because I am. This gets tried and boinked on a weekly if not daily basis.

39. Interesting rant by The Young Turk... As a Canadian I certainly don't claim to know everything about your system of government. I do however know do that there are effective checks and balances to safeguard against any ONE individual, Republican or Democrat, changing the Constitution. Seems to me that with all the real problems facing America and the world, you expending a whole lot of energy over nothing!

41. I am a Christian who was raised in a fundamentalist Baptist church. Once I became old enough to think for myself, my views modified dramatically. While I respect the views of others even if I disagree with them, I can't help but think that the politically-active religious right is only slightly less dangerous than islamic fundamentalism. Jesus told us all quite clearly to practice tolerance and live in peace with one another. Many, but not all, fundamentalists I know have forgotten this in their religious zeal. The USA was founded by those who professed to be Christians but they were tolerant of other people's faiths and beliefs. I don't like Mike Hukabee's brand of christianity and I really don't want my faith to be legislated.

42. Wow, another thinking being in the blogoshpere. I applaud your efforts to engage in meaningful dialogue with evidence to support your claim and as such I will treat you, phillystudent, with the utmost respect. In the quote you provided the word Government is capitalized. Washington and Adams are referring to the fact the our codified structure in all three branches are independent of religious beliefs. They were brilliantly saying, we are not a theocracy (please refer to my prior post in which I agreed with this position). I also would request that you quote me properly. I said "the notion that this country was not founded as a Christian society", not "the notion of this nation not being founded on christianity". The difference is in the word "theocracy". And yes, I am correct. Washington himself said in his farewell address "Of all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable." Patrick Henry is quoted as saying, "It cannot be emphsized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians- not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ." Thomas Jefferson chaired the DC school board while President and included the Bible and Watt's Hymnal as required texts. The Washington quote has ironically not appeared in any history texts since 1965. Another Washington quote on October 3, 1979, "It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His Will, to be grateful for His benefits, and to humbly implore His protection and favor." This was his proclaimation instituting the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. No mention of Jesus here...but neither did Huckabee. This is the best one of all. In 1854, the United States House of Representatives Judiciary Committee issued a report that included the following. "Had the people during the Revolution had a suspicion of any attempt to war against Christianity, that Revolution would have been strangled in its cradle. At the time of the constitution and amendments, the universal sentiment was that Christianity should be encouraged, but not any one denomination. Any attempt to level and discard all religion would have been viewed with universal indignation...It must be considered as the foundation on which the whole structure rests...In this age there can be no substitute for Christianity...That was the religion of the founders of the republic, and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants." That pretty much says it all. Also check out James Madison on the subject of our duty to elect "Christian" leaders. The treaty you quoted above is just that...a treaty. There was a political necessity to make it known with the other party that religious beliefs would not hinder dialogue. I offer you the same.

45. Dearest Clif, there is a 99.8% probability that my triple digit IQ surpasses your own. Refer to my last post on the citation of treaties with political interests as illigitimate refutation about the founders sentiment concerning religion. Secondly, in your post you merely point out that we are not a theocracy, therefore no Christian doctrine dictates our liberties. It does not refute the fact that the common law is established on Judeo-Christian principles. Keep trying there "Lil'Buddy". One of these days you can get a pair of Big Boy pants. PS I have the IQ documentation......DO YOU???
