The quote below by Huckabee is so insane, I still can't quite believe it. If he really means what he says, he wants the turn the US into a Christian Taliban state, where we would be ruled by what Mike Huckabee believes is "God's standards." And how would Huckabee know what God wants?
Here is the unbelievable quote from Huckabee:
Please tell me Republicans aren't seriously considering nominating this guy. But this is only one of four crazy stories coming out of the Huckabee camp today. First, you can read about how he wants to change the constitution here. Then, read how he signed a document saying women should "submit" to their husbands. Then, read about how one of his senior advisers thinks we should post a cop in front of every mosque (imagine if he said that about synagogues) and that genocide against Sunnis in Iraq would be acceptable.
Then read about how he wants to stop all immigration from any country that sponsors or harbors terrorists. That would mean we would end immigration from "allies" like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Pakistan. It might even mean we end immigration from Germany where some of the 9/11 bombers lived and that recently released a defendant involved in the 9/11 plot (because we wouldn't cooperate and give them evidence we collected from our detainees, probably because we tortured them). In fact, you know the country where all of the 9/11 bombers lived right before they committed their heinous act of terror? The United States.
The man has to think before he talks. His own camp had to back away from his last statement about ending immigration from all these countries. But the bigger problem seems to be that he has thought some of these things through and these crazy statements are his true opinions. Now, that's really scary.

61. It does not refute the fact that the common law is established on Judeo-Christian principles
xx
...and that is a dissemblative statement in that it's only a half truth if that. That would probably work better in the hands of a more skilled apologist.
If you regard mosaic law as part and parcel of judeo-christian principles it's less than that.
..and greco-roman principles and british admiralty law and the courts of england since the magna carta.
Also you ignore the accumulation of case law in your statement.
It accomodates statute to time, but is subject to stare deciciis, another distinctly NON judeo christian principle unless you can also find that stated in the bibles.
Apparently you've distanced yourself from 'everson v. board of education' which has been settled law for over sixty years.
If you're somehow pushing for dominionism it impeaches your intelligence per se regardless of your capacity to score on standardized tests.
The only counter to that statement might be that intelligent people can have affective disorders or extreme eccentricities. However, if you find yourself doing unitelligent things or in the ideological company of significantly less intelligent people, and this post is a good warning sign that may be true, you may want to see if your priorities or prejudices get in the way of rationality.
In other words you may have a dawg in the fight but you may not want to think you do.
now as to the reason for separation of judeo-christian church and state:
It is written in NT and I think also in OT that man cannot serve two masters.
this has also been a principle of common law since its inception in britain.
Both proscribe it.
Moreover anecdotally if you mix the sacred with the secular it does not sanctify the secular, it profanes the sacred.
It does this in a democracy because criticism and questioning of the government is the duty of diligent citizens who vote for their future and security.
If religion becomes part of government it becomes subject to scrutiny, taxes and ridicule in a nation guaranteeing free speech and a free election process.
And again, this appears to be prima facie, something that should be self evident unless you are advocating suppression of free speech as well.
Finally, the only judeo christian secular principle I've ever heard of is 'love your neighbor as yourself', a repetition of mosaic law in leviticus. As jesus reportedly said, all law and prophecy pended from it.
However this is a pre christian concept. It exists in many older cultures as variants of the golden rule as do most so-called judeo christian principles that would arise from this.
This and your allegation that you're in the 99.8 percentile or whatever it was notwithstanding I'm prompted to say this again and mean it twice as much.
It's the same old tired bullshit that's been tried for as long as I can remember and it won't fool a perceptive person the first time, let alone if it's tried incessantly.
And of course the substantive principles were ignored because it's not possible to address them.
You all look like four year-olds trying to fool an adult with a magic trick you made up yourself.

62. Correct me if I'm wrong, but but stating that his intention is to shred the US Constitution, isn't Dumbfuckabee effectively violating the Presidential Oath of Office before even being elected?
And there are god-soaked retards out there that think this is a good thing? These people, this collection of gesticulating filth and chyme that calls themsleves Christians, are nothing other than a cancer seeking to destroy this nation. And, I hope we persecute this trash for the seditious bastards they truly are.
The more I see these worthless Evangelicals and their twisted, irrelevant mythology, the more I realize that Nero actually had a damn good idea. These kinds of Christians have no value in a society in any place other than the local zoo as lion chow.

63. by the way, since I'm 64, a mental age of 32 and an iq of 50 would be ok. If I had an iq of, say 200 I'd have a mental age of 128 and, dare I say it, a 99.8% probability that my brain would be.. brain dead!

65. Voting for Huckabee is the same as the Iranians having a cleric in charge of thier country. If you don't agree with them having a church-run state, don't do the same to the U.S.

For that matter can I just "DITTO" all that Clif has to say?

69. To think that the United States is not a Christian country, well, just isn't a intelligent thought. Well anyone likes it or not, this is a Christian country. Yes there are many people that live in the United States that do not have faith in God or His son Jesus Christ, people that don't care about living righteous and want to act and live however their flesh desires and that is their God given right; however, make no mistake this country WAS founded on Christian morals, ethics, and beliefs! Guys look, for Huckabee to say that the us consitution should be according to God's standards, well, he's absolutely right. We should all be striving to live according to God's standards. And to the guy in the video, I just wanted to let you know that there is a place where you can find what God's standards are, His Word! You might know it as the Bible. Any human being can find out what God's character, and standards are by just picking the Bible up and digesting it! And because I'm sure your saying right now well who say's the Christian's God is the true God, what about muslims, and buddist, look my friend, there is a simple answer to that question. My belief, or any Christians belief in God doesn't make God exist, or believing that the Bible is absolute truth doesn't make it so, just like an athiest saying God doesn't exist or saying that the Bible is a book of lies doesn't makes that so. God just is! My belief in Him doesn't make Him exist, He just is! Whether we believe in Him or not has absolutely no bearing on whether He exists. So believe it or not, the God of the Bible, which is God's word, is the one and only true God, not because I say so, because HE says so!! Do you understand? And we should all humble ourselves enough to get to know Him and fullfill HIS plan for our lives. And if you don't know Him, I pray that you will come to know Him, and His Son Jesus Christ, and His Holy Spirit. If you don't believe that then I challenge you to get a Bible and read it and ask God to show you!
There has only been one perfect Human being, and other than Him, everyone else falls short of God's glory, including all of the canidates running for president, but I will tell you this my friends, when it comes to the future of this country, I promise you want the person who will lead us to have Christ at their center!

70. jj, your life is so simple. I'm almost envious until I realize that you've voluntarily lobotomized yourself in order to have it that way.

71. God is real!
-How do yo know?
He tells us so.
-You hear him?
No, but he tells us so in the bible.
-He wrote the bible?
No, men did a long time ago, but they were informed and inspired by God Himself.
-How do you know?
God tells us so.
-In the bible?
Yes, the bible is the literal word of god, and is perfect.
-But it was written by men and not God! You said so yourself! How do you know that is's the literal word of God?
Because it says so right here.
-But, that's the book in question!
Yes, and it's perfect. It says that right here too.
-What if the men lied and made it up?
They didn't. It's the Word of God. If men made it up, it wouldn't be perfect.
-But, the only reason that you "know" it's perfect is because it tells you that it is!
Of course. It is perfect, and the Word of God, so of course it tells us that it is perfect. It wouldn't lie. Do you think God lies? What kind of person are you?
(at this point the questioner's head explodes)

72. Fundamentalists don't GET IT.
Wanting to be right so bad that you come to believe that you are right, is not the same thing as actually being right.
If you can't tell the difference, you're hopelessly lost, and no-one can help you anymore.
