John McCain won the Florida primary on Tuesday night on the strength of the Latino vote. He beat Romney 50-16 in that category and this helped to his 5 point win in this primary. Mitt Romney was vocal in his opposition to any sensible immigration plan, instead preferring tough talk about keeping people out of the country and sending them back. Well, guess who's being sent back now?
And this is a Republican primary in a state where most of the Latino voters are Cuban (who have more favorable immigration laws applied to them). Imagine what's going to happen to a Republican candidate in the general election? At least McCain was on the right side of a sensible immigration proposal in the Senate. For this, he has been scorned by the Republican pundits, talk show hosts and bloggers. But in reality, he is the Republican Party's only chance. If they send up a hater like Romney, they're going to get whooped in November.
We broke down the Florida results early last night and noticed how big the disparity in the Latino vote was in the exit polls:
Also, it's a pleasure to bid Rudy Giuliani goodbye. He was the most crazed Republican in the field with his consistent fear and war mongering. Huckabee might be even crazier, but Rudy was the most likely to start the next war and curtail more civil liberties. So, Florida let a little sunshine into the country by getting rid of the dark and ominous candidacy of Rudy Giuliani.

17. Robert is attributing blame to Hillary for things which happened while she wasn't even an elected official.
#1. Aren't we all glad the U.S. did not invade Haiti?
2. Somalia was a problem created by George Bush Sr. in the very final days of his failed, one term presidency. He started it after he lost the election to Clinton. It was his "going away" present to Clinton. Somalia was never a "relief effort." Somalia sits atop a subterranean valley of oil.
Do you supposed W. Bush's going away present will be a war with Iran?

18. Hillary Clinton claims she all the experience to be next President, whilr Obama has little.
With her claim to fame goes the claims of shame.
Somalia was a UN Relief effort the the UN Changed the mission on March 3, 1993 to restoring peace to Somalia. Clinton and US went along, 25,000 combat troops were sent to Somalia without Congress approval.
On October 4, 1993 the infamous BlACKHAWK Down incident took place, or well into the Clinton 1st term.
Clinton had ample time to think about Somalia and not send troops into Somalia. Clinton removed troops from Somalia after Blackhawk down incident, something he could have done 7 months sooner.
Clinton took office Jan 93, he had plenty of time to change things

19. Latino's will have a say in outcome if they can vote but, it will be in favor of Republicans....remember, the Catholic church has told its members that a person cannot be both a good Catholic and Pro-choice...subsequently, those Latino's of the Catholic faith will not vote for a Pro-choice candidate.....the above was the reason Kerry did not fair well in Irish and Italian Catholic areas of states he was supposed to carry such as Ohio...and, the reason he lost these states..the church derailed his run for the Presidency in 2004...

20. Fact remains that George Bush Sr. got us into a shooting situation. He had no business doing that while he was heading out the door.
We all know that it is a whole lot easier to get into those wars than it is to get out of them.
By Okane logic, Laura Prozac Bush is responsible for invading Iraq.

21. Good point, sal flyer.
We (or at least I) tend to think of the "religious right" as mostly Baptists and Nazarene's and some of the snake handler type cults.
In fact, the republican party primarily caters to the Roman Catholic Church.

22. Somalia
Wikipedia-Battle of Mogadishu
Wikipedia quote"Operation Relief began in August 1992, when US Pres. George W. Bush, announced that U.S.Military transports would support the multinational UN relief effort in Somalia"
Fist a humanitarian effort.
Wikipedia quote" A key moment in the operation was when the Clinton Administration shifted the mission from delivering food supplies to Nation Building"
March 1993 UN Security Council-changed Somalia operation from relief operation UNITAF to UNOSOM II, approved by United States and Clinton representative to the United Nations
Shifted from relief operation started under Bush to military/fighting operation under the approval of Clinton

23. So Somalia was a "U.N. mission" in the same way that the Iraq war is a, "U.N. mission" and the same way Kosovo was a "U.N. mission."
No matter.
Now we have to prepare articles of impeachment against Laura Prozac Bush.
If we are going to hold First Ladies responsible for their husband's administrations, it is only fair.
Barbara Bush too. She's responsible for Iran/Contra, arms for hostages and Somalia too. It DID start on her watch.
Come on, Robert. This is one of your lamest attempts yet.

24. Post #19 sla flyer,
In my opinion, there are two reasons why Kerry lost the election.
1) If he did loose it fairly, it is because he is boring and did not do a good job of getting his message across.
2) Ohio stinks of Karl Rove and caging practices. Therefore, boring or not, the election was stolen from Kerry in 2004.
3) Not all Latinos who can legally vote are Catholic, and many who are Catholic are very much in favor of pro-choice.
4) Do not forget that the Latino population is much larger than just Mexican citizens are. I always found it so interesting that in the good USA we do not even bother to know or recognize that beyond Mexico there is Central America, South America and Spain in Europe all with Spanish citizens or Hispanic.
Anyway, I think we need to put things like ethnicity, religion, gender and color at the very back of the line and focus on Honesty, intelligence, qualification, interest in the American Citizens. These are just a few of the qualities I am seeking in my next president.
I certainly hope that groups such as Latinos, women, blacks, and all others are looking for the same things in the person they chose to vote for this November.
