16. gerald,
i'll try to put this kindly, how much credit can we give you for being knowledgeable about politics when your comment is littered with grammatic errors and terrible spelling?

17. Richelle brings up a good point. Why is it that these pseudo-patriotic gasbags are such dim-witted, illiterate bastards when they attempt to comment on here?
I mean, really? These are the same people who go out and screech at immigrants and demand they speak English when they themselves are barely capable of reading, writing, or even speaking the English language coherently.
So, why should anyone take the opinions of those so willingly anti-intellectual seriously? Their idea of a perfect America seems to be one where their ignorance and intellectual failings are encouraged and accepted.

18. To #2 If you can have gay relationships then why can you not have a polygamest marriage...you want Americans to have freedom of choice, I am not saying Child molestingl, if that was the case they should be hung up by there Balls .

19. Richelle...
I fully understand that Stewart's objective is to gather laughs--and nothing more than that. However, knowing the influence he has over young voters, he should at least feign integrity by not blatantly lying about our elected officials.
You know as well as I do that a good portion of Stewart's audience will vote based on little more than the information they receive from "A Daily Show." For Stewart to outright lie about the American Vice President to those people just strikes me as irresponsible at the very least and possibly subversive to the American government.
What's more, if Cheney is such a nasty guy then why would Stewart's team of writers resort to bare-faced lying about the man? I mean, shouldn't there have been enough material coming out of the West Wing to keep them rich in material without relying on fiction?
The irony is that Stewart frequently focuses on the "lies" told by the Bush Administration. Therefore, you'd think Stewart might try to remain above the very behavior he ridicules.

20. Paul, does Cheney ever come out of his bunker any more? Is it the same bunker he disappaered into following 9-11? He's just trying to ride out his term without going to prison.

21. Hard to believe some people still believe we are, "fighting a war on terrorism."
You don't prevent terrorist acts with infantry. You don't fight terrorists with ground troops. You OCCUPY with ground troops. You hold ground with troops.
Terrorism is effectively fought by considering terrorist acts CRIMES. They are fought by law enforcment and intelligence services. The military should be used for precision, overhwelming violence when terrorist targest are identifie.
It is a job for agents, special forces, financial experts, intelligence gatherers, prosecutors and assassins. Not ground troops.

You've obviously never spent any time working for the US government. If you had, you'd know that there are specific protocol established for dealing with national emergencies, such as an attack. Cheney disappearing into a bunker following 9/11 was in line with that protocol.
Is Cheney riding out the rest of his term without going to jail? Heck, I don't know. I'm not on his legal team. Neither are you.
If you could provide specific information regarding Dick Cheney's illegal activity then I'd suggest that you stop wasting your time sniping on this blog and funnel that information to the people who can actually use the information.
On the other hand...
If you can't provide any of that information then STFU.

gerald that's called the slippery slope fallacy. there is a substantial difference between marriage between homosexuals and polygamy.
allowing homosexual marriages is still between TWO people. if we were to accept your argument then we would have to say that if you can have heterosexual marriages why not allow polygamy.

25. Have you EVER studied the so-called "mormon(spelled moron) faith"? P.T. Barnum could have cooked up a better scam than that! It makes scientology look like Einstein's theory by comparison.

26. paul,
all i'm saying is that i think you are making a mountain out of a molehill. if people are going to go off information they heard from a mock news show to make political decisions without doing their own investigating then they are going to be as easlity influenced from any source.
there are people who believe chain e-mails about hillary clinton being involved in some sort of black panther murder activity and barack obama being a terrorist in disguise.
it's just a case of disliking the other side so much that you will believe anything bad you hear about them regardless of how credible the information is.

29. Sadly, Richelle, there are plenty of people in the United States who actually DO vote based on such disinformation campaigns.
And don't get me wrong, I have my DVR set to record "A Daily Show" every day that it's on. I just think that Stewart's lie about Dick Cheney should give people reason to questions Stewart's credibility and motives.
As I've said, if Dick Cheney were as bad as Stewart portrayed him then Stewart's writers would not have found it necessary to completely concoct disinformation surrounding the vice president.
Stewart's disinformation campaign against Cheney was completely unfair. Put yourself in Cheney's spot for once. How would you like for some nationally known media personality to blatantly lie about you--not just mock you, but blatantly lie about you? It certainly wouldn't endear you to that person. I'd even bet that you'd be outraged!
I guess I just expect a little more responsibility from people like Stewart since he knows what influence he wields. Using that influence to DISHONESTLY besmirch an elected official borders on subversion. And such subversion should worry everyone.
It all just makes me wonder, 'What other stories about our elected officials has Stewart's team concocted out of thin air all for the sake of a few yuks?'

30. Oh, and for the sake of accuracy, just let me say that I barely watch Fox News, although I do tune in to Neil Cavuto once in a while. Outside of that, I get my information from several sources (mainly from the Internet, local newspapers, the WSJ, and ALL of the networks.)
I regard Bill O'Reilly as a bully who sometimes has valid points regarding major issues, but then also possesses the capability of being monumentally wrong on other issues. His arguments against gay marriages, for example, were just laughable. If my memory serves correctly, O'Reilly rationalized his opposition to gay marriages by wondering, "What's next? Somebody wanting to marry their dog or horse?"
Yeah, Bill...as soon as animals can actually consent to marriage, we'll let people marry their barnyard pals.
So why do I mention all of this? Just to show how broadcast intolerance (like O'Reilly's or Stewart's) can influence people; and to illustrate exactly how snipers like Captain Courageous routinely use disinformation in the public square whenever they feel threatened.
Fox News is not my religion. I'm an atheist.
