for Chris Hawk, not Paul. My apologies for not making that more clear.

To my post #32 I would add the following to Chris Hawk, who appears to often misrepresent what others are posting. By way of further example:
The fact that I had written that "feelings are feelings" is not *my* "impoverished view of human nature" as Chris Hawk claims. It's just three
words, that *he* added a lot of context into.
I never mentioned the entire run of emotions we have, including the "love for a spouse" as implied, I was merely addressing superstitious "feelings"
that another person posted about, i.e., they "feel god inside" them. As I pointed out,
so do Shaman in primitive jungles.

Somehow *that* got twisted and spun
around to marriage. Now for the no-spin fact: As a psychologist, I think most feelings are wonderful, beautiful and natural. I even think feelings about monsters, ghosts and other superstitions are natural and are born of
our natural survival instincts, including fear. If infants didn't fear the dark and older children didn't imagine superstitious things about the dark, they would become the victims of lions, tigers, wolfs, etc.

Fortunately,however, *most* of us can recognize *some* feelings as merely "feelings" that have no tie to any evidence. To not be able to do this, can lead to all kinds of psychotic problems.

*Many* people grow out of the feelings that are not *always* based in reality and focus on ones that are - such as a natural fear of self-proclaimed "terrorists, "cult followers" and "Aryan Christians" hell-bent on killing us "infidels". I fear them far more than lions, and tigers and bears - oh my.

Fear and aggression once served a useful purpose against predators, but now that we have mastered the animal kingdom, we all too often take out that natural aggression of each other. Recognizing these base instincts in ourselves and others, no matter how "natural" they are, are a small part of what my theory of self-evolution is about.
