I just learnt that the Academy Award nominated documentary Taxi to the Dark Side had it's rights bought by the Discovery Channel. They told the filmmaker they liked the documentary and wanted to present it to the broad audience on television. Well, the suits at the Discovery Channel changed their minds, saying it's "too controversial", now they own the rights and the film can't be aired for three years.
Here is the films trailer.
and my Sifting friends are asking - Is It OK for Iran to Waterboard Americans?
Luckily, the world still has the Comedy Network to air controversial topics. Jon Stewart and John Oliver discussed America's use of torture on last nights Daily Show. ...(Oh this reminds me... although some pundits assumed without the writers TDS and Colbert were tanking, turns out their audiences are actually up from last year, also the strike is ending.)

1. The most interesting part of that Stewart episode was Philip Shenon, author of ,"The Commission." The 9-11 Commission report is already falling apart. Dick Cheney has been caught lying about what he was doing on that morning.
Interesting that since the CIA admitted to waterboarding three people the spin has become, "It's only three people!" The press should be jumping all over that.
Never mind that their "confession" was limited to waterboarding. Never mind the rest of the torture methods they have used.

2. You really are hidden, you are covert Jeff.
Never Mind all of the 'never minds', Mind this, House Judiciary COMMITTEE CHAIR John Conyers, asks Mukasey point blank if he was ready to start a criminal investigation into waterboarding by the CIA, Mukasey, "No, I am NOT." WTF, Judiciary COMMITTEE DAMN CHAIR!!!, no....FU that is what Mukasey should hear from the Full House!
Further exchange with the Committee, Mukasey said he WOULD NOT(mind you, not maybe, per chance , couldn't) WOULD FRIGGING NOT investigate bush et al for use of illegal warrantless wiretapping, he also said he WOULD NOT, WOULD NOT enforce Contempt of Congress citations against the bush administration. The Nations top Law enforcement officer, the AG refuses to investigate possible criminal acts by the administration when the prez signs bills into law with the provisos attached saying he won't abide by the part of the law he doesn't like, whent the prez and his advisors are in contempt of Congress, what can Congress DO???? Launch some damn Impeachment proceedings.
ENOUGH!!!
Congressman John Conyers, it is time, they are thwarting our Judicial system, they are excluding Congress, WTF, this is inexcusable, we have a 3 tiered system of Justice to avoid exactly what is happening NOW!
A damn Congressional subpoena, from Judiciary, we say NO, no habeas corpus, ass in black site for max 3 years. They say Congress, what Congress, they have broken the Constitution.
Article.I.
Section.1.All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate anda a House of Representatives.
Why does bush think he can circumvent Article 1, section 1, WHY? Senate has sole power to try all Impeachments. Just need them to start the proceedings, we all at one of my groups will simply fast, then I heart you Congressman Conyers but if I starve myself to death it shall heretoforward be on your head!
Clinton, Obama, do not even show up to vote, NOT VOTING on the Vote Call re; FISA S.2248, yes we are screwed by bush again, thank you Hill and Barack for behaving in most Presidential manner. You both are redacted now as well, KUCINICH, if I am alive will be penciled in.
Damn USAF Vet, I will not allow you lazy pigs to let the bigger pigs steal my Constitution, my BILL OF RIGHTS, no. I abide by those 2 things only, not the redacted bushII version, the original. I listen to nothing else.
IMPEACH! NEVER TOO LATE!! CAN IMPEACH AFTER DEATH< WTF GOOD WOULD IT DO< NOW< NOW< NOW!!!

3. Hopefully in 100 years, the generation in power then will have the truth available to them, not some sugar-coated version of history.
You know damn well the spinmasters are going to go into overdrive, painting this administrations actions with wall to wall American flags, Sousa and Mellencamp music, apple pie ,and Chevrolet. "TRIUMPH of THE SHILL", A full on Leni Riefenstahl crapfest. Festoons!
At least future historians will have a basic cable T.V. comedy show to accurately research the past. That is, if all "The Daily Show" recordings don't get purchased and become "Too Controversial" to ever be seen again.
Hopefully, the strike is over, and Stephen and Jon can do what they do without any more guilt trips about their writers not being there. Strikes suck, but what ya gonna do ?

5. Funny how we get into an uproar over the beheadings broadcast on aljazeera but don't see our own shortcomings.
Is it OK for us to torture, but not them?
I thought it interesting to learn Japaneese waterboarders were put to death after WWII for TORTURE.

he and his republican congress in 2006 passed an act that gave him and his admin RETROACTIVE IMMUNITY!
so there he was ..with that friggin smirk, telling the american public they did nothing illegal.
really helps when you have the justice dept in your back pocket.

7. Where's Thumb(up)Ass Gassbag and his "spewing hatred" schtick?
Three people waterboarded is three black eyes for 'American Justice', no?

8. Of course Bush will follow in his daddy's footsteps by granting last minute pardons to everyone involved in the crimes perpetrated by the junta. Dick has nothing to worry about.
George W. has already had his records as Governor of Texas locked away under seal in his daddy's 'presidential library.'
I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't already an executive order allowing Dick & Bush to lock away the evidence of their crimes forever.
We need some changes in the laws which allow politicians to bury their records. Actually, they are *our* records.

9. # 5. Wow, just when I thought I've heard EVERYTHING, someone here actually compares the terrorists BEHEADING of their victims with waterboarding. What a strange example of moral equivilency. I'm not condoning waterboarding, but there is no comparison. Period! And..I don't care if all the frothing at the mouth, foul-mouthed leftist fanatics here (you know who you are)agree with me or not.

Say my name, April. It turns me on. (just kidding)
Comparing beheading to waterboarding is a bit of a stretch, but mac still has a valid point.
Those "terrorists" are not government employees, they are rogues. They are a law unto themselves. We have no control over what they do as a matter of policy. We *should* have some say over what our government does. We are suppose to be a, "nation of laws."

11. " Freedom Silverados"
hey, 'silverado' sounds like some kinda illegal alien!
they better not be made in some cheese eatin' surrender monkey soundin' town name like benoit or detroit or any o' that stuff either.

April, I can waterboard you or anyone else until either your mind is gone permanently, never to return (which is the best way to cover the torturer's ass once they make you do what they want) or until you beg to be beheaded.
You don't know shit about waterboarding or what it can do to someone and if you say you do you're a god damned phony.
Clif Kuplen at 5:58PM on Feb 13th 2008
13. # 10..Hi there Cap'n. Actually, as I stated, I definitely do not condone waterboarding as a method of "punishment" particularly when it's carried out by our government! I just do not put it in the same category as beheading. I'm sure waterboarding is extremely unpleasant; but I'm not about to agree with Kuplen till I read more about the effects of it myself. Anyway..you remind me of a relative whom I'm always having political arguments with.

to start, it's not done in water. It's done in human urine or a urine feces combination instead. you can augment the technique by injecting your victim beforehand with adrenaline or methamphetamine and about a thousand mikes of LSD-25.
If your victim goes into shock you can stabilize them with digoxin or digitalis and keep going.
You hold them under until the lungs fill up with urine and monitor their heartbeat at the same time. You can bring them up and clear them or keep them under until they undergo partial brain death. If you do it with children, you can induce DID.
When it's over they will have brain damage, PTSD and mechanical pneumonia at the very least.
If you want to make them completely insane to cover your ass or make an example for another victim it's pretty easy to do and you're not limited to just those drugs.
You can do it in rubbing alcohol and water for an even more impressive treat. If you need to off them, just keep them under and enjoy if it's your thing.
It's better to do it to children in front of the loved one you need cooperation from, but there are lots of ways to terrorize and none of them have ever been left untried.

April, I only meant to show the hypocracy involved torture. You are right beheading is not waterboarding.
Did you know we( the US)tried and convicted Japaneese torturers for waterboarding after WWII. It was deemed a capital offense, the perpatrators of this heinous act were executed! Why is it OK now? Because we are doing it? Because the victims are not WHITE? Why?
