I love Charles Barkley. I was a Republican at the same time he was and we both left the party at the same time. We left the GOP when, as Barkley puts it, "they lost their minds."
In the video below you'll see the Charles Barkley interview on CNN where he goes after the hypocritical conservatives. If you keep watching, you'll also see an explanation of why it doesn't make any sense to say you supported both Bush Sr. and Bush Jr.:

16. Awesome blog, Cenk! That was the best!
I have said over the past 5 years or so as my eyes were opened that many politicians are fake Christians. To hear it said point blank on tv is wonderful, finally!
Barkley said it like it is, if people don't want to hear it, too bad.

17. Charles Barkley has NEVER had problem speaking his mind. How can he get in trouble for what he said, as Blitzer asked?

18. Father John,
Thank you for so eloquently verbalizing what I feel. I was raised in a Christian home by my mother and father, both ordained ministers, and the "Christianity" I see espoused by the right wing of the Republican party bears no resemblance to what I was taught growing up. Your comments are quite insightful. Thank you, again.

19. .
The current leaders(?) of the republicon party have bastarsized the word "RIGHT" to no longer infer "ACCURATE" or "CORRECT." I prefer to call them either "ALL FOR ME" or "GREEDY YOU" christians. They think only about themselves at the detriment of others. Where is their "LOVE" for others as demonstrated by the New Testement and Jesus.

20. I take exception to Charles self-inflated comments. I happen to be a Christian and a Conservative....so according to Charles because he switched parties means that any one who didn't is a fake. He must be running for an office as he sounds like a true potential candidate. He should only comment on subjects that he is familiar with....basketball.

21. Charles Barkley, Real christians know that only God can truly judge us. What does your "fake christian" comment make you?

22. Where have I been? I had no idea that Charles Barkley was such a profound source of political and religious wisdom! Great reporting Stank!
Wait, I heard that Paris Hilton just said that "Republicans aren't like, hot". Look's like the next report's already halfway done...Stank can take the rest of the week off.

23. BirdmanJones,
Paris, like TOTALLY has a point. Is it too late for her to run for office? She'll get in bed with the foreign interests (metaphorically of course) to make our country so HOT, and outlaw poverty and bad fashion. That HAS to be good.
Father John,
In the political arena the "men of faith" are so often beacons of ignorance that frighten me to the core, so it is a comfort to see that there are men of faith who can also be moderate and keep a level head.

24. #3 - NorthCoastGirl - Generally agree with you, but who here said the Clinton's were "Real Christians?"
#5 Robert Byngham - Please provide some history to back up your claim.
#7 - Jack Hartle - Why do you list Charles Barkley with Majic Johnson and Denis Rodman? An attempt to associate his "morals" and, thus credibility with theirs?
#8 - Steve Seivers - Why do you assume that Father John is rich or spends his congregation's money on himself? An attempt to associate his "morals" and, thus his credibility with that small minority of religious leaders?
#10 - kj - I missed the point. Please help me out concerning what Father John did that he is accusing others of.
alan at 11:47AM on Feb 19th 2008
25. Alan, you missed the point. I'm not accusing Father John of having an island retreat. I was ridiculing the televangelists that he was criticizing. Orthodix priests don't have $38,000 toilets. That is the subject of a recent congressional investigation concerning televangelists.
Steve Seivers at 1:10PM on Feb 19th 2008
26. Well, I don't agree that all conservatives are fake Christians. I am a liberal guy, but I have conservative friends (a few, anyway) who are indeed devout in their faith and they do not push it on me, who is of no particular religious denomination. There are Republicans who run for public office who USE religion as a prop to get votes, and so yeah, I think some of them are fakes. But I think some reasonable conservative would agree those folks are fakes.
Both parties have their share of phonies, both in and out of public office.

27. Charles has always spoken his mind and heart about everything. He knows the reduds have been hijacked by folks who interpret the bible the way they want to not the way it was writtain. We need more folks to tell the truth.

28. #21 - G whiz - You have come up with a solution for our budget problem. Abolish the courts and let G-d judge everyone. By the way, if G-d is the only one who can truly judge us, you must be against all of the moral judgments being made about people.
#25 - Steve Seivers - My apologies. Thank you for correcting me.
