This blog can only be described as a battle, these could be the front lines of the Internet, for all I know. I am not sure exactly what we've learnt during our time together. But, I want to leave knowing, for sure, that something good came out of this whole experience. So I did some math, I've received 9484 emails about my Newsblogger blog, over the past year. I took a trip down memory lane as I clicked randomly through my archive. I would say about 37% of the comments I received here, are comments that could be considered "angry towards the author." Using that percentage, I can then say, I've received about 3509 hate mails during me 10 months of posting here on AOL.
From the start I should have planned, a fund, where we pay a nickel for every insult I receive. This would mean my hate mails in monetary terms equal about: $175.45 ($180.33 CAD) - This amount has been donated to Betrida Stanley a Tanzanianshop keeper. We thank you all for participating.

Fascist was one of the most favourite insults.
Example from January 19th 2008

What I also found interesting was the number of times people threw around the term "anti-American."

The anti-American extreme-leftists are at it again! The point O\'Reilly makes is a good one. The liberal news media are the ones who have made this an unpopular war. The war was overwhelmingly supported at the beginning.Most elementary children would agree, my last name can be easily turned into an insult. What I found interesting is that during my whole life growing up only close buddies in jest would use my name against me, until I came to AOL.
Example from November 28th 2007.

But hey, I did agree with you once on the Myanmar thing, and you gave me my fifteen nano-seconds of fame with my very own "purple finger" video--family and I loved that clip, by the way! For what it's worth, I put the link you provided in "my favorites", and will check in once in a while to keep you on the strait-and-narrow...lol. Yes, I agree.
I did not mean to imply that your use of the term flame thrower was wrong in any way, just that I had used it differently at times.
As for your points, no argument from here.
Etiquette, civility: Good!... on internet and elsewhere.
Namecalling: generally Bad! Again, in most cases other than friendly humor.
Of course, on the web it can be hard to know what's friendly-- unless you KNOW the person-- which makes it trickier to joke around, especially in primarily serious, political sites.
Although I have found that "humorous" sites can suddenly get very political and serious, too.
The main difficulty for the idiosynchratic-type-person is that the blog can set and change the tone at will, so that the posters are necessarily more likely REacting than INTERacting.
Anyway, absolutely no offense or "correction" intended in any way.
It seems like internet-culture-- and technology in general-- has a way of making its own words and redfining others, and perhaps there is a specific internet meaning for the term that is closer to yours, whereas I was just using it metaphorically to mean something closer to non-conformist...
