The Roger Clemens steroid situatio, somewhat tragic, somewhat stupid, has taken another turn with an update about Clemens's possible attendance at the notorious Jose Canseco party. The party, which was held in 1998, is where Clemens supposedly discussed steroid use with Canseco and may have even obtained Winstrol. To date, Clemens has claimed that he was not there. But now new evidence has surfaced: not only was Clemens there, but Clemens' wife Debbie had a discussion about breast implants with Canseco's then-wife Jessica.

1. Roger Clemens should not be going through this scrutiny,he has done a lot of things for baseball and especially children. The kid with cancer that pitches just wanted to play catch with Roger But Roger took him to the bullpen and taught him some techniques.People need to realize what kind of person he is. Stay strong Roger you will get through this.

2. Pery Hitler liked dogs and kids so should we forgive and forget 13 million jews, gypsy's, homosexuals, handicapped, russians, poles etc. Everyone is capable of both good and evil fame as well as infamy but we must always judge each case seperately only on its own merits. So please focus on the case at hand and not confuse your own personal feelings for the defendant when making judgements.

5. Wow. Quite a discussion about Roger Clemens. A few posts and we're already talking about Hitler. (I can't wait till Captain Negative arrives.)
Things don't look good for Rog. I hope he and Barry Bonds don't wind up as cell-mates. I don't think there's room for both of their egos in that kind of a confined space.

6. Mr. President this sounds like a job for your and dare I say, the Vice President. If we could get the help of Fox News, Mr. Clemens might be able side step the legal issues much like the Vice President did on his hunting trip. After all, he was able to continue his historic role in American history. All Mr. Clemens wants is his historic position in the Hall of Fame. After all, it isn't like he was drunk and shot someone.

7. Mr. President this sounds like a job for you and, dare I say, the
Vice President. If we could get the help of Fox News? Mr. Clemens
might be able side step the legal issues much like the Vice President
did when hunting in Texas. Let's be fair, the Vice President was able to continue his
historic role in America's econmic and ethic health. All Mr. Clemens wants is not to have his historic path in the Hall of Fame blocked. After all, it isn't like he shot someone else with steriods or buckshot to the face.
The kids don't care if their hereos lie. The Vice President has shown that honesty is really overrated in any sport or circumstance.
We need to open a mew Hall of Fame. That way the level of ethics held by the individual will not be a deal breaker. Wait, that's Congress. Mr. Waxman it is up to you as the Commisioner.

8. Mr. President this sounds like a job for you and the
Vice President. If we could get the help of Fox News, Mr. Clemens might be able side step any and all legal issues much like the Vice President did while hunting in Texas. Let's be fair, the Vice President was able to continue his historic role in devoloping America's current econmical and ethical health. All Mr. Clemens wants is not to have his historic path into the Hall of Fame blocked. After all, it isn't like he shot someone else with steriods or shot buckshot steriods into the face and neck of Andy Petite, his long time friend.
Parents can adapt. The Vice P0resident has shown
honesty is an overrated quality in any sport or any circumstance for that matter.
We need to create a new Hall of Fame. One which will allow individuals to pay for the level of respect they desire to be held and one where their own ethics will not be a deal breaker. Wait, that's Congress! Mr. Waxman it is up to you as the Commisioner to get Mr. Clemens in. After all, he did take the time to visit.

9. You're blaming Roger's malfeasance on Bush and Cheney? You can't possibly be serious. In the first place, Bill Clinton was still in office when Roger's pitching numbers jumped like crazy. He won 10 games in each of his last two seasons with the Sox in 95' and 96'and then, at the age of 32, he suddenly won 21 games in 97' and 20 games in 98' with the Jays.
This is the problem with Bush Derangement Syndrome - It's irrational. Bush didn't start serving his first term until 2000. Then somehow Dick Cheney's hunting accident a few years later caused Roger Clemens to take steroids? Please.
There is no limit to the ridiculous nonsense when Democrats use Bush and Cheney as bogey men. And their selective moral outrage, when Clinton was clearly the most duplicitous President of all time, is truly a sight to behold.

10. I'm not a baseball fan. I don't care about whether an athlete uses steroids. It's all a stupid waste of time writing about it.

Dave--
This is an excellent statement! I mean the man sat in a courtroom and asked for a definition of the word "is"! Why? Because he was intent on being honest?
I hate to be disrespectful of an elected official; especially a president. I think that if we disagree we should do so with respect and compassion. Respect because there is value in honoring our leaders even when we don't agree with them. The degree we dishonor them is actually a reflection of our own dignity. Compassion because they are doing a job that requires more of them than we can ever imagine.
Frankly, I believe that Clinton's behavior in the White House and the surrounding brouhaha opened wide the door to general disgust and revulsion with our political process and those involved. Now, anything goes.
Obama's persona has been the antithsis to this and I think that is part of his appeal. I also think that Huckabee's manner is respectful and statesmanlike, even though he is more naturally witty than Obama.
We've also bought into the practice of shamelessly denigrating people of faith and I think that's why certain segments rant about Huck without truly understanding his positions on the issues.
But I digress...thanks for pointing out an obvious truth so succintly.

12. Why should I care about this? More to the point, why should Congress be wasting precious time and precious taxpayer monies "investigating" this stupid crap when there are so many truly crucial problems that need to be addressed?
emelpe at 3:04PM on Feb 27th 2008
13. Why compare Clements's lies with either Bush 43's or Clinton's? Because they are the tall trees in our national forest of liars, and it's instructive to measure Roger C. against their standards of depravity.
You could tell when Bill Clinton was lying: His lips were moving. But most of his lies were relatively modest. Indeed, much of their worst damage was to himself. Roger Clemens seems to be that sort of liar, in that he could have gotten off with minor damage, as did other pro stars, by simply being truthful from the start. But he, like Clinton, was compelled to keep scrambling for cover, however flimsy the alibi, and retreat from one set of lies to the next.
In contrast, George W. tells incredible whoppers that lead to the deaths of thousands, foreign and domestic, not to speak of our lost national prestige and shattered reputation around the world. Yet it's possible that he's not really lying at all; for he seems to sincerely believe that we are winning in Iraq, that we are bringing peace, freedom and democracy to the Middle East, that our Homeland Security program is a proud success story, that his budgetary programs are bringing prosperity to the middle and working classes, and a hundred similar fairy tales poured into his ear by the Vulcans and other neoconservatives. Thus, while I feel W. will go down in history as our worst president ever, he'll eventually be judged as stubborn and stupid, not as evil as the consequences of his actions would fairly indicate.

Right on...imagine sending chemical WMDs to Iraq, then selling arms to Iran, (which he denied) then using the profits to arm the Sandanistas (which he denied)...ooh that Clinton...oops, sorry, that was Ronnie Reagan. duplicitous indeed.
