My most recent posting on "That Notorious Buckley AIDS Column" produced a torrential response, including some wild attacks on me threatening to beat me up and even sue me if I didn't take the post down. My intention was to keep the post up for a day or so, but when I saw this response, I decided to let it stay up through the weekend. Some of my critics are real goons, and it's important to teach these thugs a lesson in free speech.
Besides, what were they getting so hysterical about? I got the idea for the post by reading responses to my Buckley eulogy on the occasion of his death. All I did was tell the full story about the famou Buckley AIDS column, reporting how it came about, what the reaction was, and giving an accurate account of a subsequent National Review contest about the column. My own account of Buckley's article was not uncritical, and to the degree that the humor was offensive the culprits were Buckley himself and his associate Jeff Hart. Yet I took the brunt of the abuse.
A little secret about me: I enjoy this stuff. When I was editor of the Dartmouth Review we used to tell the deans that taking on our student newspaper was like wrestling with a pig: not only did it get everyone dirty, but the pig liked it! I guess my Dartmouth experience has made me a little thin-skinned with regard to a certain type of attack. I always try to learn from intelligent criticism, but when I get outright obscenity and threats and name-calling, I sit by my swimming pool with a drink in my hand and laugh my head off.
Some of my pals who read this blog do periodically ask why some of my critics are so out of control. One of my friends even printed out a bunch of responses to my recent posts, handing me a sampling. I reproduce a few items to give you the flavor.
"Dinesh you should be executed."
"Dear Dick (I mean Dinesh)"
"We are stupid if we let this sand n*gg*r speak for us. Go home."
"This guy is a friggin' dot head."
"Hypocritical jerkoff."
"Go back to India you narrow-minded punk. You don't have a f*ck*ng clue, bitch."
"You have sh*t for brains. You are a moron too."
"I f*ck*ng hate the way Dinesh uses that stupid voice...I want to punch him in the face."
"Oh Double D (that stands for Double Douchebag by the way)"
"Dinesh is far and away the dumbest human being on this planet."
"It's asshole immigrants like Dineshit, an untouchable from India is why I am against immigration."
"Self-absorbed cretin."
"You only need to take a look at Dinesh ato know something is wrong with him. He is the quintessential little ugly deformed fascist. Weird lower lip, sticks straight out, weird pink ledge. Goofy ears. Little weird looking fascist nerd with a barren intellect and an even more despitable soul."
"I hope you die. What a piece of crap."
"The only rational response is for me to tell you are that you are simply full of sh*t and need to pull your head out of your ass."
I've been examining these comments for valid criticisms. Maybe I am a little self-absorbed, although my critics seem far more absorbed with me than I am. Hypocrisy I plead guilty to: it simply means that I have higher standards than I can live up to. I have never claimed to be a handsome guy, although through some stroke of luck I managed to marry a woman who looks like a model: maybe she is partially blind. I doubt I am the dumbest human being on the planet although I may be--a) the dumbest guy to graduate Phi Beta Kappa from an Ivy League college, b) the dumbest guy to serve in his mid-twenties in the White House, c) the dumbest guy to have taught at Harvard and served as a scholar at the Hoover Institution at Stanford, d) the dumbest guy to have written five New York Times bestsellers. Sometimes I wonder what I might have accomplished if I was a little smarter.
Now let's turn to these critics. It's striking that the cultural left, which wears the public face of tolerance and openness, quickly drops this cover when it's orthodoxies are questioned. Suddenly ad hominem epithets fly, and the intolerance and outright bigotry that is supposed to be the province of the right is quickly exposed as a distinctive feature of the secular left. I suspect that these folks are used to hanging out with people who share their political and cultural assumptions. They are not used to having these assumptions questioned. Unable to counter with facts and arguments, their only weapons are epithets and abuse. I have encountered this combination of left-wing and lowbrow on the campus, usually at second and third-rate universities. There occasionally I encounter a student who can do no better than yell "fascist" and run out of the room. In a way I feel sorry for him: his worldview has been shattered, and his abuse is simply an indication of the inner confusion he is experiencing.
To my friends and fans who keep encouraging me: No need to tell me to keep my chin up. It's already up. In fact, I feel blessed to have such irrational invective hurled at me. As long as my critics continue to reveal themselves as mean-spirited, foul-mouthed racists, how can I possibly lose the argument? Indeed such reactions from such people tell me that I must be doing something right.

466. MRSA - coming to a restaurant or airline near you soon! Gays fresh from the bath house or gloryhole the night before handling, sneezing and spitting on your food, yay! A gay flight attendant hands you a Coke and an incurable disease at the same time, hoorah!

The only problem is that my statement is true and yours is made up. You think your defending tolerance but I don't think you really know what you're defending. The modern gay movement originated in California and effectively 12-15 years later the aids epidemic came out of California. Look it up in some historical archives, not the "gays are above reproach" rewrites. It was a "What were you doing when JFK was shot" type of moment and anyone that was there hasn't forgotten it. If you defend the high risk sexual lifestyle you are an accomplice. The gay community and it's defenders have a lot of blood on their hands for all of the innocent victims of this crisis.

The idea at the time was to say that aids was everyones disease, many reporters came forward and said if they reported differently they received death threats and gay spokesman were interviewed saying that they(gay community) weren't about to be put back in the closet and would do whatever it took to make sure that it didn't happen. Emphasis on "whatever" . I suppose it could be how you look at it as to whether that is militant or not.

469. A buddy of mine finds female hookers on craigslist (I don't, I'm married), so I thought, what kind of stuff do the gays post there? Here's why there is an AIDS epidemic amongst them, and now MRSA, which definitely CAN effect the rest of us. Judge for yourself.

You were selective in what you posted. If you want to hear trash talk like that from hetro/homo, man/woman just go out on a Saturaday night and wait until everyone is real sauses up and I am sure someone will say something slutty to you. Also I am sure if you look on Craigslist for hetro women or men you could find just as smutty comments. Your post proves nothing buy smutty comes in all boxes and sizes. You don't have to be gay to be smutty.
Deb at 1:39PM on Mar 7th 2008
471. Selective? 6 posts out of one thousand nine hundred and sixty six equally "smutty" gay posts for ONE geographical USA area is selective? I'm trying to show you gay apologists WHY they are contracting all these diseases, one of which, MRSA, can jump easily to the straight population, thereby threatening us all, but you are blind to the truth. Quarantine may have to be the answer, before it's too late.

472. You make it sound like your critics are a small group on the fringe. Actaully, read the posts and count how many comments are against Dinesh and how many support him. On a typical day it is about 10-1 of those opposed to his lunacy and a small group that have adopted or support his ideology. Sorry Dinesh, you are only on here because you tend to say the most outrageous things and that sells. Nobody wants to read a blog from somebody that the majority agree with. There is no story in that.
You have been successful, like Hannity, O'reilly,Savage and Limbaugh only because the majority of "sane" or "educated" people laugh at you and do not take you seriously. Thank God there are educated and informed people in this country to offset the religious right and redneck ideologies that Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage and you subscribe to.

Really people where the hell are you from? You do not have to be a liberal to think you two are full of shit. Don't you think you are being a bit extreme? I mean come on. Anyways do you have children? If you do you should know that the new super staff infection is a concern in grade school and college sports locker rooms. Letters have been distributed to parents. Are you saying all our kids are gay? Some gay guy got it on in the ladies shower? It is also a large concern at hospitals. Already weekend patients are contracting the super virus. And yes I read it is also prevalent in the gay community, but concentrated to one area. However long before I read about the gay community I was well informed about the hospitals and locker rooms. This is not just a gay concern.

"A case-control study of HIV-positive gay men has shown that skin infection with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is associated with sex, drug use and environmental exposure. However, it is not associated with the use of antiretroviral therapy. The study was published in the 15th May edition of Clinical Infectious Diseases.
MRSA is a strain of a common type of bacterium that is resistant to many antibiotics. Although infection with MRSA has been associated with hospital treatment, it can also be contracted in people who have not been hospitalised.
To investigate factors associated with the risk of ‘community-acquired’ MRSA, researchers gathered information on 35 gay men with MRSA infection on the skin, using telephone interviews and analysis of medical records. The patients were recruited from three clinics in Los Angeles County between September 2002 and May 2003.
Community-acquired MRSA infection was diagnosed in the outpatient setting or within 72 hours of hospital admission. Genetic analysis of the majority of the MRSA samples confirmed that they were caused by a community-associated strain of the bacterium, and not a strain associated with hospital treatment."
"A new, highly drug-resistant strain of MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, has moved outside hospitals and is now spreading among gay men, researchers reported Monday.
Some of the hardest hit areas are San Francisco, Boston, New York and Los Angeles, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report.
Click here to read the San Francisco Chronicle story.
In regards to San Francisco, the study found sexually active gay men are 13 times more likely to be infected than the general population."
the study warned that, "Having male-male sex seems to be a risk factor for [MRSA] … The infection frequently manifests as an abscess or cellulitis in the buttocks, genitals, or perineum, and male-male sex was a risk factor."
The study found that this behaviorally related "[MRSA] epidemic probably started in San Francisco and has been disseminated by the frequent cross-coastal travel of men who have sex with men."
It all boils down to this: The human body is quite callous in how it handles mistreatment and the perversion of its natural functions. When two men mimic the act of heterosexual intercourse with one another, they create an environment, a biological counterfeit, wherein disease can thrive. Unnatural behaviors beget natural consequences.
The medical community has known for decades that homosexual conduct, especially among males, creates a breeding ground for often deadly disease. In recent years we've seen a profound resurgence in cases of HIV/AIDS, syphilis, rectal gonorrhea and many other STDs among those who call themselves "gay."
But don't take my word for it. Ask one of their own. Prolific author and homosexual activist, Jack Hart:
"Many sexually transmitted diseases occur more often among gay men than in the general population. Several factors contribute to this difference: Gay men have the opportunity to engage in sex with more people than do most heterosexual men, and some practices common among gays - especially rimming [anal-oral intercourse] and anal intercourse - are highly efficient at transmitting disease." (Gay Sex: A Manual for Men Who Love Men, Allyson Books, 1998, pp. 212-213).
Still, don't just take Jack's word for it:
"The same patterns of increased sexual risk behaviors among men who have sex with men … have been driving resurgent epidemics of early syphilis, rectal gonorrhea, and new HIV infections in San Francisco, Boston, and elsewhere," concluded the MRSA study.
It's a different strain than that found in gyms, Deb, and it's not me that's full of shit, but the colons of the gays wherein their partners penis' are inserted (kinda like sticking your dingus in a pile of hot feces...mmm, sounds like fun, eh?)

477. I suspect your wife who "looks like a model" married you because of your rather attractive bank account and life style"I sit by my pool with my dink in my hand. This must make you feel very insecure in your marriage knowing that if anything happens to your money your wife would be gone. Also, keep an eye on your wife and the pool boy, she may not be able to turn a blind eye to your physical and spiritual ugliness forever.

478. Dinesh,
When I read the comments left by your readers, I am often surprised by how many dissenters seem to be stalking your site, and I am especially surprised by how rude and arrogant they are towards you. When they resort to racial slurs and foul language, they do not belong online on an intelligent blog space like yours, in my opinion.
Are conservative bloggers and web sites too welcoming towards liberal abusers?
Liberal tolerance is a one-way street. Liberals demand your tolerance of them, but they refuse to tolerate conservative views when liberals are the host or in the majority. Whenever I have tried to leave polite dissent at liberal sites it is mostly refused. This imbalance leads to the appearance that liberal views are more common, while conservative views are non-existent, not welcome, and unacceptable.
When conservatives are more tolerant to liberal dissent than vice versa, are conservatives unwittingly helping liberals with this advantage? Should conservatives be playing hard ball instead of soft ball towards liberal abusers?
Should conservatives be stalking out liberal sites to argue against liberals, as long as conservative views are allowed to be posted, (for there is much less advantage in patronizing liberal sites if conservative views are forbidden there).
I canceled my local newspaper subscription to the DAYTON DAILY NEWS because they run 95% extreme, liberal views, and only allow about 5% of moderate conservative views, (and 0% harder right views).
