Ironic, isn't it? Some conservatives have been calling for an inquiry into Barack Hussein Obama's Muslim connection--didn't he attend a madrassa in Indonesia?--when the real problem turns out to be Obama's Christian mentor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright.
Wright is a kind of Ward Churchill in vestments. Remember Ward Churchill? He's the leftist white guy who was posing as an American Indian as he gave speeches saying America deserved to be attacked and that 9/11 was a case where the "chickens came home to roost." Eventually the University of Colorado gave Churchill the boot.
Oddly enough Wright used exactly the same language as Churchill in saying that on 9/11 America got its comeuppance. Actually, Wright's statements taken collectively are worse than those of Churchill. Wright also said the U.S. government deliberately introduced AIDS into the black community. And he insisted that instead of saying "God bless America" we would be better to say "God damn America."
This is the man that Obama calls "like family." This is the man that Obama credits with "introducing me to my Christian faith." This is the mean that Obama choose to marry him and his wife, and to baptize his children. This is the man who inspired the title of Obama's book. This is the man whom Obama credits with being a mentor over more than two decades.
I found it very interesting to hear Wright explicitly endorse Obama over Hillary in church. Normally when evangelical preachers cross the political line they get hammered for violating the separation of church and state. One pastor I know invited a local Republican official to give his personal testimony in church and had to answer to the IRS for it. How come black churches engage in blatant electioneering, even to the point of busing members to the voting booth, and nobody from the ACLU or the media raises an eyebrow?
Equally fascinating is Wright's comment in church that unlike Hillary, Obama will be a race man. Wright's argument is that Obama will stand up for poor blacks against the rich whites who control the country. In the past Obama has been accused by some of being insufficiently attentive to black concerns. The term sometimes used for this is Oreo: black on the outside, white on the inside. Wright by contrast seems to be claiming that Obama is white--or at least tan--on the outside but black on the inside.
Wright poses a possibly lethal threat to Obama's chance to be president. Obama's great appeal is that he's the political equivalent of Tiger Woods. He's not an America hater or a race man like Charlie Rangel or Jesse Jackson. Wright makes Americans wonder: why is Obama so close to a man whose incendiary views are far worse than that of just about any black radical figure with the possible exception of Louis Farrakhan? Isn't professed ignorance of Wright's political views, combined with a refusal to cut ties with him, proof of Obama's bad judgent?
Pretty soon people are going to ask: Is Wright's influence the reason why Obama doesn't want to wear an American flag pin? Or raise his hand to his chest when the national anthem is played? Is Wright's ideology part of the reason why Obama's wife says she has not been proud of America for her whole adult life? And behind all this, the big question: at a time of war, can America is entrusted to a man who seems tolerant of the kind of vicious anti-Americanism that we are used to hearing from our worst enemies?

31. Billy,
Yours is a passive-aggressive jihad that is really more annoying than anything else. That you keep doing it over and over and over is just embarrassing everyone.

32. Obama and Wright both run the risk of missing Heaven, but only by one word. Black! They and so many of their supporters continually refer to the “black church”. I can’t find anywhere in scripture where this “black church” is sanctioned. Nor can I find endorsement for a church of any other color. Christ says He will return for HIS church; you know, the one “without spot or wrinkle”; the one where the people are color-blind and all confess Him as Lord and Savior. Regardless what you think of DD, he is right to call attention to the man Obama refers to as his mentor. Don’t we call them that because we agree with, like, plan to emulate and copy what they say, do, live and breathe?

33. We attend a hate sermon every day - this blog. It does bother me that BO brings his children to listen to JM's (J.Wright's) rants. Coincidentally I'm in the middle of watching Malcolm X (it's due back tonight). The man in jail gets religion (Islam), learns that black-is-white up-is-down short-is-long, fed incendiary hate propaganda, eats it up, and uses it to justify waging a jihad against the white man with his palefaced blue-eyed Jesus. It's really not the same deal with BO and MX, but it's too close. BO can't defend JW, who is like another MX, or worse - another DD.

34. "We attend a hate sermon every day - this blog." --Moke
____________
Although I'm not convinced that Dinesh actually hates anyone, I'll allow that you view this blog as a hate sermon. But see, Moke, here one of the many differences between DD's perceived "hate sermon" and JW's real hate sermon: some of us actively object to what we might perceive as Dinesh's hatred. Meanwhile, Obama never publicly protested Wright's sermons. In fact, he never even insinuated his objections to Wright's point of view by finding another less-hateful congregation.
What's more, Moke, not too many of us who attend Dinesh's "hate sermons" hold ourselves (by default) to a higher standard by announcing our candidacy for the most powerful position in the history of humanity. In other words, we're not supposed to know better the way Obama MUST know better as POTUS.

36. I am full blooded American who does not pledge allegiance to the flag. The Bible tells us to only pledge allegiance to God. The Bible also has given us many accounts of those who have been destroyed because of pledging allegiance to inanimate objects aka idolatry. I still believe in this country and believe I live in the greatest country on the planet; however, I want to believe I also live in a country that will respect my right to believe that only my allegiance to God will bring me my future promises, not an inanimate obect such as the flag.

37. I am an African-American woman and I am appalled at the blatant racism and anti-Semitism of Jeremiah Wright. He has misused his role as minister to advance a political agenda. I grew up in an African-American, Protestant church, but I never heard sermons akin to Jeremiah Wrights'. I would never attend a church that espoused hatred. I believe that Barack Obama shares his views, at least partly or he would not have remained a member for the last 20 years. This is another reason to withhold a vote for this man. He is the most liberal senator in Congress; voting against the partial birth abortion ban and the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. According to Senator Obama, a child that survives an abortion should not be given medical attention! As a Catholic-Christian I could never vote for someone that represents the antithesis of Christianity. If you are unwilling to protect unborn children then how can you protect me? He also supports homosexual marriage. Not all of us harbor bitterness about the past. Some African-Americans want to heal racial division with spiritual renewal and education. In closing, Pope John Paul II condemned Liberation Theology as incompatible with the gospel. Jesus commanded us to care for the poor and oppressed, but the central message of the gospel is salvation of humanity from sin. It is not a political message.

38. mo,
this ought to be your day to shine!!! this should be a chance for you to dispell the rumor that blacks in large measure resent whites. i think seep down most blacks do resent white people. its one reason they are so segregated at church. they really do not want to worship with whites as a rule. not all but most. i need that qualifier so as not to be attacked.
mo do you have anger and hostility and resentment towards white people??
brian at 9:40AM on Mar 19th 2008
39. jane,
well said sister!!! you hit it well. too bad you are in the minority with your views.
obama is done!!!!!! done done done. now we truly see the picture and its sad indeed. his pastor really shows the rest of society what can go on behind the closed door of someone claiming to be religious.
look at jesse jackson and al sharpton. they should be ashamed to try and wear the title of reverand. its a mockery. they should be strippedof the title. they are anything but reverands. they stir up dessention to fatten their wallets

I never said I was black. I suspect you just want to know if I anger and hostility so you can throw it back at me.

42. Nice hate speech Dinesh. I originally thought you were just thick headed and stupid. Now I think you are just plain evil.
Remember WWJD. He wouldn't throw this tripe out.

43. An interesting article by D'Souza. But I don't quite understand: the article was headlined to be about Obama, but all D'Souza talked about was ex-Pastor Wright. Did I miss something?

44. Mokele; I suspect he thinks you are black solely because of your handle. Because it looks "African".
Did you notice that he also called janesophie1 "Sister"? Too funny.

45. "chickens coming home to roost" is a quote from malcom x. i don't know if this has been stated yet. Personally, i will never vote for obama now.
