Upon reflection, I think Obama's speech was even better than I originally thought. Looking back at what he said several times now, it becomes apparent that it was a truly courageous speech. It was not Politics 101. It was not strictly damage control. He actually tackled the issue of race and tried to get white Americans and black Americans to understand one another.
The other reason that I loved it is because he understands the genius of America -- that we continually change to make this country a more perfect union. It's not that we can do no wrong; it's that we can recognize when we do and correct it. This is what makes us continue to get better and better as a country and why we stand out from the rest of the world. He understands the essence of what makes us the shining light unto the world.
Listen to the clips we picked out from the speech here and our quick analysis to get a sense of what this speech so different than almost any other political speech:

1. Obama is a LIAR!
Sen. Clinton is the best person for the White House. No one else will be able to get the job done! We should be begging her to be the President!
Obama is a product of his environment like everyone else...He has spent 20 years listening to that FAKE "Man of God"...How do you think he feels?
Obama is a Republican plant...they know he can't beat McCain...He is stealing votes of the non-thinkers. Don't be fooled by a Fool...Obama is the biggest bag of hot air since Bush!
Next headline..."Obama votes for Clinton"

2. Are you kidding??? My mom drank out of colored fountains. Do you have the right to ask that question? I do! He did nothing for rac relation in America but add to the problem by staying silent with Rev. Wright discrimintory comments. If you continue to be part of the problem how can you come up with a solution. The overly bias Obama media never stop surprizing me. HE SHOULD DE DONE! But, your real Republican motive to continue to support this sad figure so then Democratic divide continues is not going unnoticed....
I am not against Obama just for the right candidate. But, when the William Ayers issue hits the fan, I guess you'll sweep that under the carpet too... I face racism everydday! It's my reality! Obama only said anything he needed to to stay in the campiagn.
LOOK AT THE POLLS ON YOUR OWN SITE!!! No one is buying it!!! Racism is raw and real!!! And Obama's fall from grace will be ugly if you continue to push him on us.
I hope the "SUPER DELEGATES" caucas pays attention to the popular outcry not to support Senator Obama. We need them to vote for Senator Clinton and allow Senator Obama to focus on Rezko, Rev. Wright and William Ayers... Everyone write or email your democratic representatives now. Tell them you want to send a message to "Super Delegates" before its too late.
Read articlee below in case you missed it in the Obama speech spoke screen.
Rezko role bigger than admitted
By KENNETH P. VOGEL | 3/14/08 9:27 PM EST Updated: 3/16/08 7:36 AM EST Text Size:
Barack Obama acknowledges underrepresenting cash Tony Rezko raised for his earlier campaigns.
Barack Obama on Friday acknowledged that he had substantially underrepresented the cash raised for his earlier campaigns by indicted businessman Antoin “Tony” Rezko.
But Obama's campaign said it could not donate to charity as much as $90,000 in newly acknowledged Rezko-linked contributions because the old campaign accounts were closed and the money spent.
Obama's acknowledgment that Rezko raised as much as $250,000 for earlier campaigns, initially made in an interview with The Chicago Tribune and confirmed later to Politico, came after a year-and-a-half-long trickle of admissions about Rezko’s fundraising role and more than a month after Obama’s aides contended that they had identified and jettisoned all Rezko-linked cash. It also came as Rezko’s trial on corruption charges, underway in Chicago, brought increased scrutiny of Obama’s ties to the real estate developer, fast-food magnate and political insider.
Days ago, Politico asked the campaign for a detailed list of the $157,835 in Rezko-linked contributions it said it had donated to charity.
The campaign attributed only $85,185 of that to a list of specific donations from Rezko and 16 associates, declining to attribute the rest because it told Politico it didn’t want to subject other contributors “to any suspicion of wrongdoing or embarrassment.”
Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt said Friday evening that the campaign intended to release new details on as much as $75,000 in Rezko-linked donations to Obama's 2000 and 2004 congressional campaigns, but not any information about money Rezko raised for Obama’s state Senate campaigns.
“We’ve given all of the money contributed to Barack Obama’s federal campaigns that could reasonably be credited to Mr. Rezko’s political support to charity,” LaBolt said in an e-mailed statement. “Sen. Obama also provided an estimate of the most that could have possibly been raised as a result of Mr. Rezko’s efforts, but that estimate is not a basis upon which any individual contributions can be donated to charity.”
LaBolt also said the campaign would release new information about a much-scrutinized land deal between Obama and Rezko’s wife, which Obama has called a “boneheaded” mistake.

3. I guess in reading this report, I now know the young turks are morons and should not be taken seriously.

4. Cenk, I'm somewhat disappointed. This topic is doing just fine in the previous "Obama speech" post.
It was a great speech. Judging by the posts I'm reading, it wasn't great enough.
A better question is, "Why do we care what religious leaders say about *anything*?" What should be denounced is the political ramblings of *anyone* who makes a living off of telling people about an invisible man in the sky who always need money.
It is only political expediency which makes otherwise intelligent people pander to those religious people who want to influence politics with their faery tale beliefs.

5. His star is falling as people finally start looking for depth. It is a shallow pool. The latest polls show he has dropped 15 points against Hillary and 14 against McCain. Rezco, Wright, weakness inexperience in ALL areas - military, the economy and legislation have finally caught up to him. It was a very good speech, but one he was forced to make from the firestorm. Unfortunately, it wasn't one he CHOSE to make because it was an issue that he wanted to lead on.
He is toast - even his Democratic white male voters have to take another look about what what this guy and his wife actually believe about this country. Obviously, Michelle holds the same view as the Reverend Wright.
Cenk, your big blow on the greatness of Obama once again has attracted the multitudes to your site - all three of us. You, Matthews and Olbermann need to go have a sleep over together , put on your Obama girl PJ's together and gush to one another about you favorite senator. You continue to be a putz and Rachel Madcow is as irritating visually as I have heard she is on the radio on Airhead America.

6. Jack (#1) - Clinton is a liar. McCain is a liar. Obama is a liar. Get over it. You will not be able to find a unique slam against any candidate. Read
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/barbara-ehrenreich/hillarys-nasty-pastorate_b_92361.html
concerning the religious people who may have influenced Clinton. Also note the extremist religious leaders who have endorsed McCain w/o a word of reproach from the candidate.
None of the candidates is perfect. Perhaps none is fit for office, but one of them will become our next President. Figure out which one has the "best" positions, is least likely to be lying, and most likely to do what they say they intend to do and vote for that person.
Jeffery (#3) - Young Turds, morons, etc. is getting old. Think up something fresh that will get our attention. Perhaps some independently verifiable facts.

7. Why was his speech so great? Any one of these would explain it.

3. You left the window open and Baracula got you.
4. You are a far left wing aol newsblogger.

8. Stand by Obama he is the real road to change. If people let this Race thing bother them then they are as shallow as the Politicians they elect and deserve 4 more years of lies and petty games.Americans have to wipe the smoke from their eyes and move forward. This is all they have on him to try and take him down.He is a good man and I a Veteran and a White man will stand by him all the way.

9. It was a good speech, but not great by far.

10. Big Guy,
I read your blogg and you made some pretty points, but Obama's bid for the White House is over. Trust me on this one boss.
Over the decades, I've seen a lot of politicians come and go. Some for what they said, some for what an associate said and some for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Oddly enough, the quality of their work is one of the last things that keeps them in office (with the exception of Jimmy Carter).
My 2 cents: Obama will become another John Kerry. We'll hear from him from time to time, but few are going to care about what he has to say.

12. I really like what Obama said, he is telling the true, this country needs to come together and move forward for a more perfect union, he is the man for the president of the United State , he is america , he know what it is to be a person with all race of people in him, he understand the people, better than any candidate that are running for president what the people needs and what they are going through. He can do something about it. He saw that his pastor needs help, to heal the wounds he had inside of him.The man is old and fever minded, what did Jesus came to do? save the ones that were lost, you never turn your back on people when they are down. there is a life after this one, and what you down here determent where you go when you leave here.

13. If anyone don't want changes in Amercian, vote for Hiltary Clinton, or John MCCain. We will be the same old American, race against race and other country still hating American. Other countries study american polices and keep up what is going on here.

14. alan, thanks for that interesting link.
From the smallest villages and rural counties to the federal legislative, executive and judicial branches, it is obvious that there has been an infestation of undercover christians who downplay and conceal their unholy agendas. Religion is a force of divisivness in American politics.
Once again, we will be forced to vote for the lesser of the evils. So far, that still appears to be Obama. Edwards was the best of the lot.

15. Get real, People! It doesn’t really matter who gets voted into Office, he’ll still be following marching orders from the “Powers That Be” – or else! Does JFK ring a bell? So whoever becomes our next Undertaker, you can be sure of one thing: It’ll be business as usual (with a few decorative frills). Slaughter houses appear more becoming from the outside than do mortuaries. I’m voting for Obama ‘cos he kinda resembles Denzel Washington!
