While Senator Obama's pastor has been ripped to shreds in the media, John McCain's have gotten a complete free ride. Did you know that the man John McCain calls his "spiritual guide" thinks the purpose of America is to get into a giant war with all of Islam and destroy it? Other than being bigoted, that's also insane. And how much have you heard about that guy? Who can even name who he is?
Other pastors whose endorsements John McCain has proudly accepted have blamed the city of New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina and America's liberal policies for the attacks of 9/11. How is that any different than what Rev. Wright said? Find out the heinous comments McCain's pastors have said here:
Get the full quotes of all the Republican nominee's pastors here. The double standard that the press has for pastors that support Democrats and Republicans is insane. It is so brazen that I can't quite believe they don't see it for themselves.
Unfortunately, a lot of what drives our elections are not the most pressing issues of the day, like the Iraq War or the economy. It's what the press chooses to cover. And if they choose to beat Obama's pastor to a pulp and never cover McCain's pastors, do we really have a fair system that allows to choose between the different candidates with all the information we need? This is not a level playing field and it's hurting the country.

17. Cenk...
This is a common tactic of misdirection designed specifically to discredit McCain, and it's not working. Why not? For several reasons.
Number one, McCain doesn't attend either Hagee's or Parsley's church and never has attended they're churches to hear anit-America racist sentiment.
Number two, while McCain might refer to either man as his spiritual guide, he does not regard the man as "his mentor and like a father" to him.
Number three, ALL candidates receive smelly endorsements that they wish they could survive without. The endorsements are NOT the issue.
Number four, you mistakenly think that America has taken a harder look at Obama's bigotry because of his pastor. And that's simply not the case. Rather, America has begun to see through Obama's slick veneer and has recognized a visceral anti-white slant in his stance. And that anti-white stance was never more evident than in his "More Perfect Union" (MPU) speech where he mentioned white racism twice but never mentioned black racism. What's more, one citation of white racism he provided in that infamous speech was completely fabricated! (I'm referring to the South Carolina white campaign worker, Ashley.)
Number five, on top of that, Obama stood firmly against Don Imus back in April 2007 when he told ABC News that he'd fire anyone on his staff who used racial slurs. (Imus never did use a racial slur, but that's a different discussion.) The problem for Obama is that despite his strong feelings against the white Don Imus, he couldn't even bring himself to separate himself, his wife, and his impressionable daughters from the obviously bigoted sermons of Jeremiah Wright. That, in and of itself, makes Obama a lying hypocrite.
Number six, when trying to clarify his fingering his own grandmother as a racist in his MPU described his grandmother as "a typical white person" further suggesting that Obama ignorantly views all white people as typically racist.
And number seven, Obama wanted to begin a frank and meaningful discussion of the race issue in America. So, you can cite all of the wacky endorsements of John McCain that you like. However, their points of view really mean little in this discussion because (as I've said) ALL candidates receive smelly endorsements.
Try REALLY making your point by citing an example of McCain's bigotry...anti-American sentiment...or desire to infringe on your rights.
Yes, Cenk, some people in this country believe some very strange things when it comes to their faith. Which is why we maintain a separation of church and state. In comparing their personal attitudes and approaches to governance, McCain demonstrates far more ability to separate himself from the insanity of religion than Obama displays in separating himself from the insanity of black racism in America.
And lastly, Cenk, where was all this outrage over the media coverage of Obama when he was their strapping, wide-grinning, broad-shouldered darling?
It seems a bit disingenuous and transparent to absolutely embrace the media coverage when Obama's campaign is going well but then assail the coverage when his campaign's going not so well.

21. All one has to do is look at McCain's campaign leadership to know where his money and influence are coming. Barack Obama has turned down special interest money and money from lobbies, millions of small donation make up the vast majority of his huge campaign. Yes, we can is the cry of the people wanting government back. Barack Obama will make a great President. Get rid of the right wing, extremist, fundamentalist religion in government. Separation of church and state is what is required.

22. Sorry, but as usual the Air america moonbats are clueless.
Obama excuses a racist preacher whose church he sat in for 20 years. If Clinton or McCain had sat in a KKK run church they would be crucified by the media.
Obama should not only quit the Presdential race he should resign from the Senate he is unfit to serve

23. There are plenty of Moslems who believe Islam's purpose is to start a giant war with non-Moslems and convert, subjugate, or destroy them -- i.e., they agree with McCain's pastor, who may well be onto something.
However, for me as an Independent voter, it was not what Obama's preacher said about America that mattered. It was what Obama said or didn't say about his preacher that mattered.
Along with his unexplained ties to Islam, the world's most violent and intolerant religion, Obama simply didn't tell us what he though of his preacher's anti-American tirade.

24. Passport snooper an employee of Obama consultant!
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The CEO of a company whose employee is accused of improperly looking at the passport files of presidential candidates is a consultant to the Barack Obama campaign, a source said Saturday.
No wonder Obama was outraged! This oughta just about finish his candidacy. He certainly will not win another primary.

25. This is typical left-wing obfuscation from Cenk and the rest of the liberal/socialist gang. And Democrat apologists are wildly flailing around trying to make it sound like Haggee, Robertson, Falwell and other pastors have said anything vaguely or remotely similar to words spoken by Barrack Obama's friend and spiritual mentor, a race-baiting, half-crazed, America-hating, perpetually angry pastor named Jeremiah Wright. They haven't.
It's not working. Obama's numbers are dropping like a stone and his nomination is now in doubt because people are taking a second look at him, trying to figure out why, if he's such a great racial healer, are so many people around him so angry about race all the time?
Truth be told, the late Dr. Jerry Falwell would give the shirt off this back to help anyone of any race. Al Sharpton, of all people, said after Falwell died that he was one of the most generous men he'd ever met and not a bigot. And anybody who tries, to serve their own political purposes, to put words of racial hatred in the mouths of Falwell or Pat Robertson is a demagogue and a slanderous liar and should be ashamed of themselves.
Incidentally, I think there's a very good chance that Jerry Falwell did more in his lifetime to promote race relations - by generously allowing a significant number of minority students to receive a college education at substantially reduced, or even no cost - than Barrack Obama will ever do. Exactly what has Obama done for blacks and for America, except to bless us with his presence?

27. Thanks for the huge laugh, Cenk. LEVEL_PLAYING field! That's a good one! Like the one you've been bending over backward to give Hillary all these months, right?
I'm no fan of McCain's policies, but one regularly attends only one place of worship, at best. Endorsements are off the table in terms of egregiousness of influence.
If McCain calls some nut his spiritual guide it deserves vetting, but by your own standards, then so does Obama and Wright’s connection.
I'll check out the quotes and facts, but it will surprise me if I find as close an affiliation between McCain and a religious figure as that between Obama and Wright. Also, Wright has been a VERY active POLITICAL figure in insider-Chicago-demagogic-politics.
The whole thing actually, logically, leads one to support Hillary, and I KNOW you're logical and unbiased, right?
(And of course, practically speaking, there’s almost no focus on McCain right now because MOST people, and the press, are focusing on the differences between Hillary and Obama. Some people who aren’t so biased in favor of Obama that they’re readying pitchforks for Hill like you and the press are and have been in your googoogaga love affair with O.
There's this entity called the electorate that actually wants to vote (and have their votes counted-- I'm sure you'll keep your pitchfork sharpened to make sure that happens, right?), and decide this one for themselves…
And a 20-year spiritual advisor who "converted" Obama to "Black" Christianity (that one's taking a lot of parsing, and I still don't buy it) is not quite the same as the right wing's eternal dance with the fundaMENTAList right and the majority electorate's resounding rejection of close church-state alliances.
Most of the country, including mainstream Republicans and the press, have been critiquing and criticizing the right-wing-extremists since I can remember.
The Reverend Wright flap and what it has revealed about ties to The Nation of Islam's Farrakhan, Trinity’s flirting with racial separatist, ethno-Afro-centric rhetoric, etc., is new to the public/electorate, and needs lots more airing. BTW, it's on their website, not just in afew speeches.
Most folks are well acquainted with and quite disdainful, if not contemptuous, of the "God-hates- F***," abortion-clinic bombing, and other fundamentalist types of Christianity.
Your sudden calling for focusing on issues has occurred only since Obama’s Wright trouble. I smell a hypocrite.
Nevertheless, a hearty Happy Easter and upcoming Passover-- or just good old SPRING, You lovable, selectively critical agnostic You!!

29. Religious delusion is arguably the most prevalent and potentially dangerous form of mental illness to have ever plagued humanity.
From burning people at the stake, to flying planes into buildings, to these ridiculous mega-church evangelists, you ignorant and superstitious primitives have long overstayed your welcome in civilized society.
I only hope that we as a species can outgrow the need for this childish mumbo-jumbo before you self-deluded godbots kill us all.

30. Earth to Ken: When you get done with your little anti-religious tirade, do a little research into communist/atheist-related atrocities and mass-murders in NKorea, Cambodia, China, Cuba, Russia, etc. Read "Troublemaker" by Harry Wu about how the Chinese love to blow the heads off of dissidents or squash them with tanks.
Even including Muslim atrocities, which have absolutely nothing to do Christianity, Atheists have murdered 50 to 100 times as many as theists have over the past 100 years. Nice try.
