While Senator Obama's pastor has been ripped to shreds in the media, John McCain's have gotten a complete free ride. Did you know that the man John McCain calls his "spiritual guide" thinks the purpose of America is to get into a giant war with all of Islam and destroy it? Other than being bigoted, that's also insane. And how much have you heard about that guy? Who can even name who he is?
Other pastors whose endorsements John McCain has proudly accepted have blamed the city of New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina and America's liberal policies for the attacks of 9/11. How is that any different than what Rev. Wright said? Find out the heinous comments McCain's pastors have said here:
Get the full quotes of all the Republican nominee's pastors here. The double standard that the press has for pastors that support Democrats and Republicans is insane. It is so brazen that I can't quite believe they don't see it for themselves.
Unfortunately, a lot of what drives our elections are not the most pressing issues of the day, like the Iraq War or the economy. It's what the press chooses to cover. And if they choose to beat Obama's pastor to a pulp and never cover McCain's pastors, do we really have a fair system that allows to choose between the different candidates with all the information we need? This is not a level playing field and it's hurting the country.

31. Ah, the intellectually superior atheist:
Except one can't prove the negative of no deity or the positive of a deity.
(see Dinesh... By Gob they try!)
Yes, agnosticism may be the only STRICTLY scientifically logical choice, but no one can dictate spirituality. EXCEPT politically, which I hope we can all agree is a BAD IDEA, no matter your belief or non-belief.
Like it or not, the soul, or spirit, or what a materialist would call the consciousness or brain, is an exquisitely private sphere that will always have its own idiosynchratic relationship to itself, to ideology, and to the world. This is as it should be. The evil comes in when humans attempt to impose ANY
religion or belief system (which may or may not include God ) on others.
Therefore thank, um, GOODNESS, for constitutionally-guaranteed separation of church and state, which allows for religion and for NOT religion. Unlike, say, the "superior" practices of Communism... or theocracy.
Would that it were that ONLY religion caused evil actions, repression, and insanity on the part of humankind.
Stalin, Hitler (NOT a Christian), Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Jung Il...
We need to beware and take caution against all forms of ideology and practice that dictate belief systems, and, yes, we need to beware the false "tolerance" that encourages or allows
religiously based suppression of human rights (see Canada and Sharia).
Choose your poison carefully.

32. I think this Rev. Wright stuff is about over, as long as he stays retired. I as well as many other Americans don't appreciate someone who breaks one of the nine commandments in the house of God. Even most athiests would probaly agree in my opinion.

33. Let's put this ridiculous argument to rest. The only reason why McCain did not win the nomination in 2000 is because he did not embrace the religious right and in fact criticized them. If he did not befriend the evangelical preachers now, McCain would be out of the raise. What is he supposed to do? Obama had ever chance to back off from Wright and he didn't. Look at Wright's speeches and then think that Obama had the judgment to bring his own children to see Pastor Wright.

34. You dems are about to blunder in Pa. if you elect Hillary. Why... Well, think about the McCain Vs. Hillary election... Okay ... The question that will follow voters into the voting booths will be: WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU ELECT A FIRST LADY... WHO HAS... BEEN IMPEACHED.

35. Talk about "preaching to the choir". The only people who believe that they are equal or worse are left-wing nuts like Cenk.
There are sooooooooo many reasons they are not the same, just to touch.
McCain did not sit in church for 20 years listening to the rants and raves of Hagee or Parsley. He was not married by them, his children were not baptized by them, he did not take an "oath" to belong to their churches. McCain is simply not as involved with these guys as Obama is with Wright.
McCain lost last time because these religous-right wackos chose Bush over him, and you better believe Bush worked it. Bush truly is one of "them" and has received a free pass about it for 8 years. McCain knows this time he has to take them seriously. They influence millions of people.
All the candidates have creepy endorsements. You can't help who endorses you. Of course these guys support McCain. He's anti-choice and THAT if you really did your reasearch, you would know is their #1 issue. McCain will also not allow gay marriage #2. Conservative Judge to USSC #3.
Geez someday maybe there will the "The Grown Up Turks" who can look past their crush on Obama long enough to see reality.

37. Robertson and his crew of flakes from the 700 club interviewed Falwell after 911. They spewed garbage about god punishing this country because we are all liberal abortionists and homosexuals. McCain won't denounce these hipocrites because he needs their money.

40. I have been a Democrat ALL my life.
I have supported people of all color, and acted in true Christian faith.
This NEW emerging Black Racism gives me pause to think.
I am re-evaluating my options.
I am thinking about RETURNING THE FAVOR
All these blacks who vote 95% black along racist color lines.
MAKES ME SICK.
If Obama gets the nomination I am voting Republican.

41. The right-wing christian leaders are all nuts. The things I've heard them say are so over the top I'm surprised lightening hasn't already struck them. Obama's Rev. ain't gont NOTHING on that whacko bunch!
web jones at 12:38PM on Mar 23rd 2008
42. Ginny...
You mean to say that you won't vote for a black man (well, half black man) simply because nearly 90% of the black people in this country will vote for him because he's black?
You bigot!
Paul at 12:46PM on Mar 23rd 2008
43. I'm a middle aged white man and I listened to Obama's pastor's sermon. I agreed with 95% of it.
White folks want this issue of race brushed under the carpet. Blacks and other races in this nation want just the opposite. They want their story told and they deserve every right to have it told. Both Obama and his pastor are trying to tell their side of the story and White America simply doesn't want to hear it. They know all to well what their fathers and grandfathers and great grandfathers did. And some of the white fathers of today are preaching the same hatred. When will it stop? Obama as President, even if for only for four years will help our entire nation start to heal.
Bill at 1:11PM on Mar 23rd 2008
44. Robert, you just aren't very bright. The religious leaders of the right said the same thing as the religious leader from the left. They all said that our society is responsible for the 9-11 attacks. Our society is a "white society."
It couldn't be any simpler. And your, "pasta source" line, oft repeated, doesn't become more intelligent with repetition.
Captain Negative at 1:22PM on Mar 23rd 2008
45. You are so far left you may be off the planet. Any pastor who would say the racist words that Wright said is not worthy of anyones respect or following. this man should be arrested for Hate Crimes.
