1. The Petraeus Paradox: If we're doing well, it's because of the extra troops so we shouldn't pull them out. If we're doing poorly, obviously we need more troops. Either way, we need more troops and need to stay in Iraq longer. This supposition is obvious nonsense, yet we're taking it seriously.
2. The central government of Iraq is a myth. It is neither central nor a government. It doesn't govern anything outside of the Green Zone and is run by one Shiite militia and in no way encompasses the Sunnis, the Kurds or the other Shiite factions.
3. Giving more time to a project headed in the wrong direction doesn't help the project, it hurts it. If you're going the wrong way, people aren't helping you by giving you more time to head in the wrong direction.
Here's a quick explanation of the myths of the Iraq War:

46. Had we not invaded Iraq in the first place we would not need to leave, thus, we would not need to quit, as some would suggest. Had we not taken our eyes of the real enemy hiding in Afghanistan we might have already won the war.
Even if we were still unsuccessful in our quest to find and kill the real enemy, the one who brutally masterminded the brutal murders of over 3000 of our compatriots, we would still be a united nation focused on the same goals. There would not be a single citizen or politician wanting out of AFGHANISTAN before the job was done.
Unfortunately, for the innocent Iraqis and for the citizens of this country that is not “justice” unfolded. Therefore, over 4000 troop casualties, over 20,000 of wounded American soldiers and hundred of thousands innocent Iraqis we are still in a quagmire created by a man with a personal agenda incapable of running a baseball team, much less a nation.
General Petraeus might have well recorded his briefing from last year and he could have replayed it for the Senators yesterday.
Alternatively, the Captain asked to define “win”. I think we can easily summarized it, by saying Osama Bin Ladin. He is the real winner here, first we got rid of Saddam Hussein for him. Secondly, we continue to spend billions and billions of dollars on this war and our debt is astronomical. Thirdly, because of our debts our economy is a mess. Fourth, some of us are still so afraid we are letting an idiot dictate how we should live our lives. Fifth, where is Osama anyway?
WE ONLY NEED ONE REASON!!
WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE GONE IN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
IF YOU WANT MORE OF THE SAME INSANITY...JOHN MCCAIN IS YOUR NEXT DECIDER!

47. TO ALL DEMOCRATS AND ALL THOSE WHO HAVE HAD ENOUGH WITH THIS WAR AND WITH THE BUSHIES WAY OF GOVERNING!
We must take the fight up with McCain, whether you are a Clinton supporter or an Obama supporter, McCain is whom you want to see defeated period end of story!
Take a page from the GOP, UNITE AND FIGHT FOR YOUR PARTY!! most of these bloggers were knocking McCain down and wanted nothing to do with him. Furthermore, do not forget what the right wing media threaten to do if he was the Republican nominee, Ms Ann Coulter came out and said she would support Hillary. Now the man can do no wrong even when he is dead wrong on most of the issues!
HE DID SAY WE COULD AND SHOULD STAY IN IRAQ FOR 100 YEARS IF NECESSARY !!! BY HIS VEY OWN ADMISSION HE KNOWS VERY LITTE ABOUT THE ECONOMY. HE HIMSELF BROUGHT UP THE ISSUE OF HIS VERY OLD AGE! HE FIRST OPPOSED BUSHES TAX CUTS FOR THE VERY WEALTHY, NOW HE SUPPORTS IT!!
The arguments between fellow Democrats are counterproductive and it has to end. Do not lose sight of the fact that we have the better candidates. If we do not end the infighting, John McCain will win the Presidency in November.
Therefore, unless you are satisfied with at least four more years of an unwanted war, a president whom by his own admissions knows very little about the economy, then continue with your dumb arguments.
I suggest we unite as anti-McCain Americans and support the Democratic Candidate whichever one that person will be.
DEMOCRAT PRESIDENT FOR 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

49. so Cenk.. when are you going to be strapping a bomb to your dumb ass and killing innocent people?
Because your blogs read like terrorist indoctrination.
Problem is with you yong twits is that you don;t believe in anything other than yourselves.
You do not see the real picture, you are not educated enough to see what really is the facts of this matter.
But hey, like any other simpleminded moron, you havea computer and hate this administration, so everything you say is fact.
You are wrong.
If we leave Iraq... and this is blatantly obvious to anyone over 25.. the entire middle east may erupt into a holy war against each other.
So what's the bad side? Easy, once they are fighting each other.. where will the oil you people use to drvie your cars came from?
Cenk.. You hate this country.. GET THE F OUT..
Instead you mock what your simpleminded brain cannot comprehend. RE: big picture...
Just be glad you are here in the coutry you so obviously hate.. if you were in an Islamic country.. they would have killed you by now

So, you admit that we are in this for the OIL, not freedom, democracy, or terrorist. Now, no back paddling here, for these are your exact words. I guess what you are telling me is, we are now a nation that TAKES what we want from whomever we want, or at the very least, by use of war, provide us with a superior position over anyone else. Then, as I stated in an earlier post, you give the standard NEOCON command to “GET THE F OUT,” (in other words, do it your way or the highway). I missed the memo that stated this was only a nation for NEOCONS and nobody else. As you state, us liberal “simpleminded brains” cannot comprehend the big picture, so I guess we are lucky to have someone like you to see to it for us. What a nice thing to say about others. Truly amazing…
