The New York Times has a terrific new article that explains how the Pentagon used former military commanders as puppets to fill the airwaves with pro-Bush propaganda. It sounds unbelievable but it makes perfect sense when you read it because the military analysts needed the access to the Pentagon to make money as lobbyists and advisers to defense contractors. They set up the perfect scheme for everyone get what they want, except for the American people, who were purposely misled and deceived by the people they trusted the most.
It's an absolute must read. Click here for a link to the article.
Below is my very brief summary of the article:

1. Read all eleven damn pages before you say one word on this. All. Eleven. Pages. And then ask yourself this question:
How the hell isn't this war fraud?
How the hell isn't this impeachable?

3. It's amusing to see a propagandistic NY Times article claiming others are spreading propaganda. The NY Times is the most corrupt media outlet in existence today and Cenk is a mere tool propagating a story he knows is dishonest.

4. Byngham, you wouldn't know the truth if it bit you on the nose. If Fox doesn't say it Robert doesn't believe it.

5. It's about time the media began telling the truth about these things. It's a shame they wait until the Bush regime is almost over to do so. Now nobody will do anything about it, because it's too close to the end and everyone will just want to "move on". This story should be on the 6 o'clock news in ever city on Earth.

6. Why don't you just admit that you are angry at life because you were not born White but you were born homosexual and that's why you think everything is a conspiracy? Sick freak

7. Oh wait, I forgot...television media is also in the hands of the government. So I guess it'll never go past the NYT.

8. I have always believed that Iraq is nothing more than a factory for
bush:
A money pump, in effect. A large-scale operation all set up to pump
money from millions of people, up the chain, into the pockets of so
very few.
Its product is the very generation of money.
Its industrial waste is lives, limbs, refugees, domestic safety and
infrastructure, and vast unrealized opportunities.
There has never been any other purpose for the invasion of Iraq.

10. I saw this story on the daily show as well, and even though its a comedy show (as the conservatives like to point out) they have real news on as well, its very easy to tell what story is real, and when theyre just making fun of something, i guess if you had a sense of humor you would know the difference. I said several years ago then when the facts start to come out, and they eventually will, people will see how bogus this administration is. Well, so far we've had prof the wmd's and saddams intent were overly exaggerated for the sole purpose on invasion, presidential pardons to those involved and charged (which if i recall, bush said he would mke sure anyone responsible for any leaks paid the price, i guess he meant that in dollars)...and unfortunately most people's reactions have been "oh well"...now is the time for action people, and congress, clinton had imeachment trials for much less, why isn't it even being talked about?

11. How dare the pentagon attempt to generate positive press in the middle of a war! I'm shocked . . . shocked, I say! How dare retired senior military officers retain affection for a military they spent their lives serving! Have they no integrity? How dare any American question the agenda of NYT and the rest of the "progressive" media!
Anyone with half a brain knows to take anything coming out of the pentagon with a grain of salt. Or, anything coming out of the NYT, for that matter.
Not that I doubt this story, it's just not the least bit surprising unless you live with your head stuck in an ideological black hole. It's the sinister spin the NYT tries to place on a mundane non-story that has me scratching my head, along with their complete lack of specifics ("some (at least 2?) criticized this . . ." ; "many (at least 3?) regreted that . . ."). As a hit piece, this falls well short of "progressives" usual low standards.
Given the apparent trepidation with which the left views the Bush propoganda machine, it's ironic that my greatest criticism of the Bush administration is the inept manner in which they've handled media relations. In other words, their "propoganda" has been too little, too late, and often laughably trite.
I take some comfort in the fact that the propoganda coming out of the "progressive" blogosphere is even more crude.

12. CMW, the media is -supposed- to be as unbias as possible when reporting news. Likewise, analysts for media should also leave out bias. You didn't read the article, obviously, or you would have read the parts where generals abstained from voicing their TRUE feelings about the war, out of FEAR.
Don't be mindless. Question authority. The only thing that could hurt is the people trying to RULE YOU and profit from it.
Strados at 11:18AM on Apr 23rd 2008
13. I thought Pelosi and Reid were going to end the war!!! They lied and people died!!!!!!! Neither has the guts to file impeachment charges or file a bill ending the funding for the war.
Obama or Clinton can file impeachment charges as well but neither has. Obama and Clinton can file a bill to stop funding the war and have the troops home before November.
Pelosi and Reid duped the Democrat voters for their own personal power grab. Obama and Clinton are using the same tactic.
Demand an immediate ending to war funding. Demand impeachment immediately. Demand an immediate vote on a Declaration of War by the House and Senate.
Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Clinton: Put Up (War Spending Bills-Article of Impeachment-Declaration of War) or Shut Up!!!!!!!

14. what many of you are missing here is that these retired generals were being paid by defense contractors to promote the war. as they say... "follow the money." Sounds like the military-industrial complex that General Eisenhower warned us about. all of you who comment here - are you being paid to give your "opinions," or are they your true feelings? who doubts that the Iraq war is making someone (friends of Bush/Cheney) rich, and the rest of us are paying the price? and yet you sit there, waving your neo-con flags, wearing your flag pins, defending the Bush regime, and you call yourself patriots, but I have another name for you - "Suckers!"

15. I haven't believed anything I read in the NYT, other than sports scores, in years.
Now, let's review the facts. Saddam didn't have WMDs, but he want Iran to believe he did. So, when it came to allowing U.N. inspectors into various facilities, Saddam acted like he was hiding something.
When the U.N. asked for proof that he had disposed of his WMDs and stopped his WMD development programs, the information given was incomplete.
After all, how was Saddam supposed to prove that he got rid of something that, in fact, he never had, yet make everyone believe that he used to have them.
Based on Saddam's actions, the logical conclusion for the U.S. and Iran was that Iraq still had WMDs.
