John McCain recently received the endorsement of Reverend John Hagee. McCain said he was very proud to get that endorsement and just last week reiterated on ABC that he was glad to have it. Now, look at the unbelievable and hate-filled sermon of Reverend Hagee below:
How do people get away with this kind of perversion of Christianity? At least, I hope it's a perversion. Because if that's what people think Christianity truly stands for, that's very scary. You can watch the longer version of this sermon here to get the full context. Trust me, it doesn't get any better, it only gets worse.
If other Christians don't stand up against people like Hagee, what does that say about Christianity?
And what does it say about John McCain that he is proud to be associated with this guy?

1. "Death is better than compromise"
Lol :) The Christian concept of martyr is totally different to the Muslim concept.
When a muslim martyr says "death is better than compromise" he is referring to a situation where HE KILLS OTHER PEOPLE and if he dies in the process he is a martyr. Eg 9/11.
To the Christian it means other people killing us for our beliefs, its better to be killed by someone rather than compromise our beliefs. To the Christian "Death before compromise" means its better to be killed for our beliefs rather than compromise.

2. John Hagee is a white, republican, fundie! Anything he says is just fine!
Damn you, Cenk Uygur!

3. The presenter shows his own lack of research and has taken isolated statements completely out of context. I don't know Hagee's position generally so my reply is not to defend him, but merely to point out Mr Uygurs very poor journalism.

4. Cenk said he went to journalism school, or that he had taken a class in journalism, but in any case, he must have slept through it.
Hagee is a moron, is not and has never been John McCain's pastor vs. Mr. Obama and his 20 year relationship with the good Reverend Wright. Can not begin to draw a comparison as hard as you may try. He has already said he disagrees with his point of view on many subjects. Keep digging, Cenk or go off to another baseball game...

5. I would not blame Israel. They were getting bombed by Hizbullah for years, so no wonder they wanted to punish them. Now I admit some Israelis are racists, just like there are racists in all countries, but the average Israeli did not want to bomb civilians but Hizbullah. And they regret that in bombing Hizbullah also some civilians got killed. What do you expect them to do, turn the other cheek, like Jesus allegedly recommended?
It seems to me Jesus was a fanatical pacifist. Just like he wanted his followers to forsake their families and follow him, that too is fanaticism. But he was not all bad, I agree with you, Mr. Uygur, that he wanted to help the poor.
The statement about not eating was not from Jesus, but from Paul. And Hagee distorted the statement. Paul did not say "who does not work", but who does not want to work should not eat. Most of the poor do want to work, they just have trouble finding permanent jobs, or they are handicapped or disabled, unable to work, but would want to work if they were able. So Paul's statement was not extreme.
Though Paul did make some extreme statements, like telling slaves to obey their masters and telling wives to obey their husbands. And he sure did not tell masters to free their slaves.
Thankfully most Christians are more reasonable nowadays.

You sound like a desperate man grasping at straws. One, old news, never even caused a ripple on opinion polls. Second, McCain never sat in church with Hagee giving a sermon. Third, there is no 20yr connection between Hagee and McCain as there is betweem Wright and Obama.
S0 here is as example of liberal bias in the news, a nothing but an endorsement from Hagee and you tie it around McCain's neck and try to sink him. How about a comment about endorsement Obama got from Jane Fonda?? Remember Fonda, "Hanoi Jane". She actually visited McCain in Hanoi when McCain was a prisoner, oh no she visited and praised the N Viets guarding McCain who was held captive and tortured. You saying Obama approved of the traitor Jane Fondas actions? Obama accepted Jane Fondas endorsement.
Or how about Rev Wright and Jesse Jackson political 1984 trip to Cuba, paid for by Castro, and were wined and dined by Castro. At the same time the world's longest suffering black political prisoner was in a Castro jail being tortured, and nary a word from Wright or Jackson to help the imprisoned Eusebio Penalver. Penalver spent a total of 30 years in Castros jail, longer than Manderla spent in jail. Rev Jackson and Rev Wright never sought to help Penalver. Castro was also anti black and black skinned people in Cuba were treated as slaves. Did Wright or Jackson ever speak up for black people in Cuba, NO. Rev Wright condemmed USA for what happened in S Africa to the Blacks, but never condemmed Castro, just toasted the brutal anti Black leader.
Obama sat for 20 years in a church with Rev Wright and was close to him and you are that stupid to believe Obama did not have a clue. Rev Wrights trip to Cuba to visit Catro was a big item in Chicago and in Wrights life, and Obama missed that.
And you are making a connection between Hagee and McCain and the best you can do is McCain accepted the endorsement?
Obama and Jane Fonda=nice combo
robert okane at 5:18AM on May 2nd 2008
7. Robert, I don't think Obama was going to that church to get political advice. He was going there to learn Christianity. He understood that he was an expert on politics, while Wright was an expert on Christianity. Maybe you happen to agree with your pastor on politics, but the average Christian does not go to church to learn politics, but to learn about Christianity and worship God with everybody there.
Tom Martin at 5:30AM on May 2nd 2008
8. Cenk : You have labored mightily and have brought forth a "molehill" of a comparison. Nice try but still an "apples and oranges" comparison. Robert Okane's Jane Fonda comparison is a 747 compared to your "wind-up" toy. Better luck or forethought next time.
longwalker at 5:40AM on May 2nd 2008
9. Longwalker, did Obama say he is proud to be endorsed by Jane Fonda, like McCain said he is proud to be endorsed by Hagee? I sure doubt it.
Tom Martin at 5:52AM on May 2nd 2008
10. Let me get this straight: John McCain was a member of Hagee's church for 20 years while Hagee preached radical hate-America-first politics from the pulpit, even invoking God's curses on the nation.
The sermons were all about conspiratorial nonsense, race and identity politics. And John McCain first disavowed all knowledge of the content of these controversial sermons until this strategy failed spectacularly. (If all of this were only true about McCain, Cenk might have a point here....... )
Dave at 6:50AM on May 2nd 2008
11. Tom Martin : I doubt it also. I was comparing Robert Okane's Jane Fonda comment to Cenk's Hagee comment. Okane stated that Obama accepted Fonda's endorsement. I did not make any comment regarding who had accepted what. Perhaps Robert Okane could provide a citation for Obama's acceptance. He does that sometimes unlike Cenk.

12. He is just saying what the Bible says.
2Th 3:10
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
Lu 14:26
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
Jos 1:1
Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,
Jos 1:2
Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
Jos 1:3
Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
Jos 1:4
From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

14.
Perhaps you are just unintentionally slanting things in this sermon. Perhaps you have no understanding of the Bible and the sacrifices made throughout time by believers.
Perhaps you hope to smear John Mc Cain.
If you think mainstream America approves of governmental enabling you are uninformed.
Yes let us help our fellow man. However what you seem to be OUT of touch with is that generations have lined up for help with no intention of improving their lot in life. Ask Bill Cosby what HE thinks of the welfare system.
In the 60’s there were marches on Washington DC and demands being made for their ENTITLEMENTS. That puts it into context. It is not perceived as help or temporary assistance. The liberals have forbidden anyone noticing that some people do not work and still have 42 inch TVs in their homes. NOT PC.
Infantilizing people does not teach them to fish. It does not prepare them to go forth in the world and succeed. It does not motivate them to work.
We have immigrants who take advantage of grants and loans to start businesses and go to school while some of our citizens sign up for welfare on a permanent basis.
There is an abyss between being helped and having generation after generation of people EXPECTING a check to carry on their lifestyle meager as it may be. Welfare was never meant to be a vocation. It was a hand up to assist on a temporary basis.
The Bible says Honor thy father and mother.
But what if your father and Mother are criminals?
What if they are atheists? Sometimes one must pluck out ones eye if it offends thee.
One must decide what would Jesus do.
Death is better than compromise in some situations.
Is your memory so short that you do not recall Columbine and a child who would not compromise by saying she did not believe in God just to save her own life?
For her there was no compromise.
Her name was Cassie.
http://www.resurrectionthunder.com/cassie.htm
Would you have her conviction and courage if you were in that situation?
Yes Muslim radicals...all radicals, really all leaders demand they be followed.
All leaders good or bad require that their followers subscribe to their doctrine.
If you are in the ARMY and are told to take a hill in the face of danger and say Oh no I don’t think so, you may be facing a court martial.
If you go to Arlington and cemetaries across our land they are full of brave men and women who did not believe in compromise.
By the way Muslims radicals brush their teeth and eat each day too same as you.
You can always find similarities between even the most diverse peoples so the analogy between the Rev and radicals is weak…lame even.
You are looking for reasons to crucify him. Even he would support that right it is what makes us Americans.
Good debaters and journalists force themselves to look fairly at BOTH points of view so as not to lose the message or destroy the messenger. They research their topics and do not cruise you tube and find some potentionally objectionable comments taken out of contect to highlight.
You have an agenda.
You are trying to sell it, to legitimize it and sway voters with it.
Shame on you.
You are on a soapbox and are not being a journalist.

15. In response to #12: the verses of Jesus telling those that wanted to be His disciples, He was telling them they had to place Him first. This is true of ANYTHING IN LIFE requiring discipleship in it's technical meaning. If one were going to school for a specific trade or subject, one could not expect to make something else a priority and still excel in that trade or subject. God called Christians and even the Hebrews to have "no other gods before me"....that was His first commandment. So in terms of comparison...no you shouldn't "hate" your family (that goes against everything else the New Testament teaches about love, keep in context here) but neither should you make them more important than God in your life, if you choose to be His disciple. What many Christians believe is that God is well able to take care of the person and the family, so putting Him FIRST and then acting out of His love toward the family is not a cause for perplexity.
