Bill Ayers was a radical activist whose Weather Underground declared "war" against the US Government and kind of liked plotting to bomb and kill Americans. And, no, I don't think that Obama being an acquaintance of his 40 years late has much relevance at all... but let's be honest, to compare Ayers to Gordon Liddy is a little farfetched.

There are bad people on all ends of the political spectrum. If you're a politician you're going to run into one of these wackos eventually. But Gordon Liddy is a completely different wacko than Ayers. If Liddy had set up bombs and tried to kill Americans as a way of implementing his political agenda, then I'd say they're easily comparable. But unfortunately for you they aren't.

3. While we're on the subject of hypocrisy,Cap'n, it should be noted that Gordon Liddy did almost 6 years of hard time in various federal institutions because he would not snitch on anyone. He was specially singled out for his lack of cooperation with the Government. In any event, he did his time. William Ayers, on the other hand, as a child of vast wealth and privilege, never did any time. I can see why he is a Liberal hero.

4. Joe Bonnano was a crime boss, not a political activist... if he endorsed McCain at one point it's news to me, but I guess the guy had a right to vote since he never ended up in prison... Also, it is worth noting that his criminal empire (no longer under his control at that point) was dealt severe blows by a young prosecutor named Rudy Giuliani in the 1980s.

Liddy and Hagee are political activists, so they're fair game as far as I'm concerned. They are undoubtedly despicable people in my opinion. If I were McCain I'd pretty much denounce these guys. Hagee is on equal footing with Wright no doubt... but Liddy and Ayers are less comparable.

And yes, conservatives are hypocrites too... but I'm not a conservative. I'm not free of hypocrisy either; none of us are... but I just want to clarify that I am by no means a conservative, which I consider to be backwards and a total hindrance on society when it tries to move forward.

He formulated plans to kidnap and murder anti-war protesters among others.

Ayers and his wife and the Obama's were regularly seen socializing together and seen at various political functions together. Ayers and Dohrn, were Terrorists, and very friendly with the Obama's.

Ayers has admitted to being "guilty as sin", but "free as a bird". Ayers and Dohrn did not carry signs outside the Pentagon, they bombed it. Ayers has written about that bombing "Everything was absolutely ideal on the day we bombed the Pentagon. The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the Bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them". Ayers, Dohrn and other comrades of their organization, Weathermen, bombed the Capital Building, the State Department, banks, police stations and court houses. There were lots of bombs and Ayers said "I do not regret to setting bombs" he told the NY Times in 2001, sorry he and others "didn't do enough". When ask like what, Ayers said "Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at". At the Weathermen "War Council" meeting in 1969, Dohrn was happy over the barbaric Manson Family murders of the pregnant actress Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger and 3 others. Dohrn stated "Dig it! First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them. They even shoved a fork into the victims stomach. Wild". The Weathermen had declared war against what they called "AmeriKKa" Rev Wright would have understood.

"Political activist" would be a correct label for Liddy, and I used the term neutrally to differentiate between Bonnano, whose life had nothing to do with politics. By political activist, I simply mean a person who is active in promoting a political agenda. Liddy would fall into that category as would many other individuals both good and bad.

And to suggest that I was attempting to paint the man as a hero is preposterous. Liddy is a convicted criminal. I'm only pointing out that the comparison between him and Ayers isn't quite right either.

Now you can claim that I am ignorant of American History all you want. Maybe I am. Who knows and who cares. But I'm definitely not clinging to some ideological dogma or interpretation of history. I'm too radically skeptic for that.

15. I am soooo sick of pundits saying how "unfair" Obama is being treated. If you ask me, Hillary's the one being treated unfairly. I still have serious concerns about Obama and his relationship with Rev.(?) Wright. You cannot make me believe that Obama did not know of Wright's hatred and contempt for this Country. Wright is as RACIST as anyone I've heard of, Black or White. Now, it's fine for people to speak their minds and be as critical of the U.S. as they want. I, in fact, think our government is crooked and that Bush is a dangerous man who should be impeached. But Wright seems almost gleeful about 9ll. Obama's 20 year very close attachment to this Egomaniac, hate filled man troubles me. Remember, Wright recently threw Obama under the bus. I question Obama's judgment being involved with him and his "views." Obama is running for the highest office in the land. Plus, from the first time I heard Michelle Obama speak, I said that is one ANGRY, racist, anti-U.S. woman. Hey, being so blatently anti-U.S. is not a desireable quality for a Presidential candidate. Something is not right here.
