President George Bush has given up golf in honor of U.S troops in Iraq. During an interview with Politico and Yahoo News, Bush said his decision to give up his favorite sport came after the August 2003 Bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad. The bombing killed Sergio Vieira de Mello, who was the top U.N. official in Iraq.
Bush continued to say, "I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal."
Good job Bush. We're proud of you.
Did the preseident think that revealing his "sacrifice" would result in the American people increasing their respect for him? Thousands of troops have given up their lives for the war in Iraq , and thousands more continue to risk their lives in the Middle East. Instead of thinking of ways to END the war, Bush decides giving up golf makes him a respectable and honorable president.

17. The Republican Party has already begun its fearmongering, the President making a statement that he believes we could suffer another 9/11 attack if a Democrat is elected President.
I just hope enough people learned from their mistakes of allowing their votes to be ruled by fear like last time.

Thanks for your opinion of my post.
By the way, you know the word "Chief" looks almost natural in front of your name. Just a thought.
As of 4/08 USA was Importing appox 168,000,000 (million) gallons of gas a month. Source US Energy Information-US Govt.

19. My biggest problem with our oil dependency is that someday it WILL run out. Especially with massive countries like China gulping up more and more of it each day. People think about the short term and bitch and moan about how inconvenient gas prices are, and they don't stop to think about their future, or the future that the next generations will be inheriting.
We should be spending more on developing alternate, renewable fuel sources. Humanity has managed to come up with so many fantastic inventions throughout our history, I highly doubt that finding new ways of producing and storing renewable energies is something beyond our ability to discover.
I don't even have any children (and possibly never will), and I seem to care more about the future that humanity's children will be inheriting than most people with kids. It's pretty disheartening. If caring about the future of our race makes me an ultra-liberal hippie, then feel free to call me that all you want.

21. Do any of you ignorant Republicans read the news? Oil production is UP, demand is DOWN but prices are still going up. Speculators and the falling dollar are to blame. Reading most of these comments makes me sad to see so many people believing what they learn on Fox news most likely. You are probably the same people we laugh at watching "Jay Walking". Ignorance breeds ignorance, and ignorance is bliss. We are going down fast and things have to change. Wake up people!

22. "Oil production is UP, demand is DOWN but prices are still going up. Speculators and the falling dollar are to blame."
This is partially correct. Demand is down domestically, but up worldwide.
The increase in fuel costs has caused a recent boom in research (and investment) in alternative fuels that can used with conventional vehicles. This may not be the bellwether of an abandonment of fossil fuels, but it does demonstrate that economic (i.e., market) forces may be more effective in moving us in that direction than legislation.

23. Just one other thing as regards rising fuel costs and the falling dollar.
I work in an industry that services customers who began sourcing a good portion of their products in China back in the late '90s. Just recently, some of that business has started coming back to domestic producers, primarily due to the rising fuel cost/falling dollar situation.
Natural market corrections can be brutal but for the most part I think they're more stable and reliable than protectionist legislation.

24. Anyone watch C-Span a month ago when the oil execs. explained how all of the oil in Alaska and the Gulf Coast combined would not amount to 2% of the worlds supply? And who got the idea, besides right wing radio, that even if they drilled in America, that the oil would be sold to us? These are the same folks stealing oil in Iraq. Any discounts there yet?
Pat Mallory at 10:54AM on May 14th 2008
25. Pat,
Thanks for bringing that up. It's true. The oil we would get from drilling in America amounts to practically nothing. It'll be gone before we know it and then what? It's pointless to drill in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico because the oil we get would be spit in the ocean. Not worth it.
But it doesn't surprise me righties keep blaming Dems for gas prices and bitch about drilling for domestic oil. Dems are forward thinkers - we think about the people coming after us and what kind of world they will have. Repubs have their heads buried deep in their collective asses. Any problem EVER they just blame on the Democrats. It's tiring hearing their same old banter blog after blog.

26. Democrats base all opinions on emotion and not on facts. Fact: environmentalist tree huggers and animal lovers(all your voters and part of your paties belief system) have killed every plan to drill for oil, build refineries and nuclear plants. This has been going on for at least 30years. So get rid of your stupid emotions(lets blame everything on Bush & Oil Companies). This is a simple minded view of reasons. I know the world is to complex for Libs to understand ,so they blame everything on the only thing they know Bush & companies FOOLS.

OH Yea Dems are forward thinks. They forward thought us right into dependency on rag heads for oil. Thank you Dems for your stupid forward thinking.I would also like to know how someone already knows how we can only get a little oil out of Gulf Coast and Alaska. Thats just like you Libs believing in evolution and that someone can measure millions of years ago. Oh yea I forgot the only Global Warming you will see is when you pass away. So you better come to Christ and not evolutionist.

28. World wide gasoline prices in US Dollars per gallon.
Netherlands $6.25
Norway 6.21
UK 5.94
Germany 5.87
Italy 5.72
France 5.56
S.Korea 5.38
Japan 4.54
Australia 3.32
S.Africa 3.24
Russia 2.38
Mexico 2.36
USA 2.23
As of Feb 24,2008, MSNBC.com
And Obama wants a N.America Union of USA, Canada and Mexico just like European Union. Just look at major parties cost of gasoline in the EU. And EU thinks their unemployment rate of 7% is great, best in many a year. In USA unemployment is 5%.
PS. world gulps 85 million brl of oil a day. Worlds oil is not controlled by "Big Oil", but by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Mexico, Russia, Venezula, and Nigeria, whose STATE OWNED OIL COMPANIES collectively hold most of the oil reserves. Source Business and Financial News Star Tribune Minn. 4/08

Could you please point out who and how are stealing Iraq Oil.
Last time I checked, Iraq Oil was being produced by Iraq owned oil company and all monies collected were deposited in a UN designated Bank and distribution of that Oil Revenue was under watch of the UN.
The largest oil field is Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, which has 13+ billion barrels of reserve. The untapped oil in Alaska, off limits by Democrats, is well over 100 Billion Barrels.
And all the Oil in Alaska and Gulf is probably 2% as CNN showed, but how can you figure in other oil in Alaska and the Gulf when drilling prohibited by the democrats?
