News Anchor Says F-Word on Air
New York anchor Sue Simmons is the latest to join the TV News Bad Behavior Club. During a broadcast, she said to her co-anchor, "What the f*** are you doing?!" without realizing she was still live. The uncensored video and her apology are on NewYorkPost.com, along with lots of gossip about her being a lush. The best quote they got, from a former colleague: "Sue Simmons likes the sauce and she can be cranky about it."
It still doesn't come close to topping the recently released, completely psychotic Bill O'Reilly flip-out from his Inside Edition days: "'Play us out'? What does that mean!?!" (Colbert has a hilarious take-off you can see here on Gawker.) Warning: both these videos contain cursing!

1. Does "f*ck" stand for "fact-check," Ada? According to the actual news report of the incident that I read, she didn't say it "to her co-anchor," but rather to offstage technicians who had apparently substituted footage of a disaster for the puff piece that she thought she was promoting.
OTOH, the "gossip about her being a lush" may be justified. (So I'll add to it (;-).) I almost never watch TV news (or much TV of any kind), and I've seen her sounding or acting "tipsy" on the air more than once.

2. Ada,

3. 1. If you are a hate Bush/FOX addict and/or Obama obsessive and want your daily fix of Blame it on Bush/FOX and/or swear allegiance to Obama, watch MSNBC.
2. If you want the news from an effete European (supercilious) point of view, presented in a politically correct fashion, watch CNN or BBC news.
3. If you want controversy and full coverage of the news, watch FOX news.
4. If you want to be spoon fed the news by ratings competing beautiful people, watch CBS, NBC, or ABC.
5. If you are a self appointed sage (intellectual wannabe) and must daily reassure yourself of membership in such an august group, read the NY Times.
6. If you do not want to understand the news watch iconoclastic news comedians (Bill Maher, Jon Stuart, Keith Olbermann shows) or let AOL lead you to a compatible news blog (bias) that suits your invective or sophism.

5. Let me get this right, in order to justify or shine a better light on NBC. You reach back to the stone ages and find something on Bill Oreilly. WOW, WHAT A FUCKING BITCH YOU ARE. OOPS, I DROPPED THE "F" BOMB.

6. A word that "many people" find offensive? I didn't get the impression that she found it offensive. She got a pass on this. Why?

10. Ok ppl she thought her mic was off. How many of you have never said the word fkc?? That's what I thought. To me this is absolutely a non issue. I wouldn't have liked my kids to hear it but then again I don't allow my kids to watch the news because of how graphic it is. To anyone who was offended ( I can't imagine who that would be ) keep in mind that she didn't just blurt it out on the air but said it at a time when she thought the mic was off. Why are we even discussing this?
