It's impossible to predict the future with certainty (obviously) and many things can change between now and November. But if things continue as they are, the Republicans are going to get steamrolled in 2008. And there would have to be some real dramatic change on the world scene for there to be a different outcome. All things being equal, they are on their way to a loss like they've never seen before.
Here is why:
Now, new polls are showing voters preferring Democrats by nearly 20 points to Republicans. That's unheard of. Not chastened by any of this, the GOP continues to head in the wrong direction. Instead of finally coming back toward the center, they keep going further and further right. By the time they get their wake up call in 2008, it's going to be too late. It's going to take them decades to recover from this mistake. They have gone so far to the right, they went right off the cliff.

17. I am a white guy. I would vote for Michael Steele, J.C. Watts, Condoleezza Rice or Alan Keyes to name a few.
I would never vote for a Liberal Marxist Socialist Communist Fascist Democrat no matter what their creed or color.

18. "Short of Obama pulling off a miracle and being able to convince the blue collar Dems that he was just joking when he trounced on their religious convictions and their love of hunting, he's going to lose a good number of Dems."
I honestly don't think they're concerned about that. Obama, along with Gore and Kerry, hold more of a natural appeal for the NPR crowd. They haven't gotten the blue collar vote in the last two elections and they most likely won't this time. What they're banking on is a motivated black vote and a youth vote that actually shows up for once.

19. The Louisiana district had a huge influx of Katrina Parasites and their lock step D-Vote which combined with a piss poor Republican candidate caused the seat to be lost.
The Mississippi district had an influx of Katrina Parasites to a lesser extent but the Democratic candidate ran on Conservative principals not "Nancy-Francisco" values. The real issue here is how long will he hold the seat if his votes contradict his promises.

20. Here is what might be shaping up if Obama gets the nomination: the white working class votes John McCain for President and then votes for a Democratic Congress. With a veto-proof Democratic Congress, they can vote against Obama and still enact a progressive agenda. That might be viewed by some as the best of both worlds.

21. If the Democrats win big in November, the Republicans should all resign and let the Democrats destroy America - it will serve us right for allowing the party of murderers, perverts, freeloaders, ACLU members, athiests, union gangsters and other assorted dregs of humanity to even exist, let alone triumph. Once the Dems have turned the USA into a socialist pigsty, bankrupted us both morally and fiscally, taken away our freedoms, and opened the borders to allow the worthless poor to flood in and destroy our economy and way of life, we will long for the good old days of Reagan & Bush. But it will be too late.

22. I remember in 2006 all of the Lib's saying we will crush G.W. I was the first one to e-mail them and tell them "you were wrong" Cenk, I can not wait to let you know how wrong this story is. I just have to wait for six months.

23. This country better hope that the republicans don't get "crushed" in the general election this
year. If they do, you think you have it bad now, just wait and see how you like what your going to get in the next four years!!!

24. If and when Obama becomes Prez, we will surely return to the ignominy of the Carter years. (I accidentally typed "Crater" the first time. That works too. In fact, get ready for our economy to fall into a giant sink hole like the one that just opened up in Texas. And national defense? Please. It's the one thing liberals love to save money on. And we'll blame every bad thing that happens on Bush and Cheney for the next 50 years.)

25. Boy, Cenk, as a typical White person, I'm really worried now. I guess I better hold my rifle and my religion a little closer as we await the inauguration of the liberal Messiah.

27. With all the supposition that many democrats will switch to McCain - whatever their motivation? - I believe it is very possible for McCain to win. However, this country is in such deep trouble that whoever gets in will not be able to fix it in 4 years and will get the total blame (as usual). If McCain does win, the Republicans will be "out of power" for the next 20 years since he will not do much different than Bush - and maybe then the people will wake up.
Denise at 1:58PM on May 15th 2008
28. Cenk under-estimates the ability of democrats to screw up what should be shoe-in elections.
He also underestimates the ability of republicans to manufacture,'October Surprises' and steal elections.
Cenk should never underestimate the power of the party of pissed-off, white guys.
Captain Negative at 2:13PM on May 15th 2008
29. If the Republicans get crushed in 2008,the people of America are going to get crushed the four years that follow.I would agree that Democrats could really capitalize off of an anti-Bush feeling they have generated. The problem is they only offer a woman that is trying to have us believe that being the wife of an incompetent politician should be considered experience. And an African American that believes he can negotiate with rabid dogs. Not to mention that neither have a plan for this country based on reality.Kind of like the attack they have waged on this president.A lot of accusations, but not much substance.
