It's impossible to predict the future with certainty (obviously) and many things can change between now and November. But if things continue as they are, the Republicans are going to get steamrolled in 2008. And there would have to be some real dramatic change on the world scene for there to be a different outcome. All things being equal, they are on their way to a loss like they've never seen before.
Here is why:
Now, new polls are showing voters preferring Democrats by nearly 20 points to Republicans. That's unheard of. Not chastened by any of this, the GOP continues to head in the wrong direction. Instead of finally coming back toward the center, they keep going further and further right. By the time they get their wake up call in 2008, it's going to be too late. It's going to take them decades to recover from this mistake. They have gone so far to the right, they went right off the cliff.

31. I love the fact that the good citizens of Mississippi are smart enough to see right thru the dirty tactics and ridiculous campaigning the GOP pulled in that State.
In my humble opinion what I consider racist and ignorant was some of the people in West Virginia that voted against Obama more than for Clinton, because they have been fooled to believe that the Senator is a Muslim and that he is not patriotic, that is incredibly sad and stupidity at its finest.
Furthermore, if African-Americans are voting for Barack Obama based solely due to the color of his skin, or women are voting for Hillary Clinton based solely because she is a woman, I think that is also short sighted and hurtful to the Democratic Party, the nation and to the people.
However, if African-Americans and women vote for the individual that is most like themselves because they believe they are the right candidate for the job. They feel that the particular candidate cares about the issues and they are proud that someone from their gender or ethnic background has been able to reach to this point, I do not see a problem nor do I call this racists or gender bias.
Moreover, this is very knew to all of us, it is the first time a black man and a woman have made it this far in the process, in a few months it is very possible that one of these two candidates will make history. In the past, we have only had representation from white men in the White House. In fact, I seem to recall when many Americans had their collective shorts in a knot because we voted for a Catholic president. Wow, as it turned out we had nothing to fear from John F. Kennedy (in my opinion one of the BEST Presidents this country has ever had!).
Alternatively, I think it is time for this nation to unite and work together to rebuild the mess the current president is leaving us with, and to work towards restoring our credibility around the world. After all, we are part of the community on earth.
Lastly, as a Democrat I am ready to do my part to help either Senator Hillary Clinton or Senator Barack Obama win the presidency in 2008.
Democratic White House 2008, G*d Bless America and it is time America Blessed G*d.
Democrats and others who are tired of the fear mongering, do not fall for the lies and the manipulation that these small-minded individuals continue to throw your way.

Since Blacks vote 90+% for candidates based on Color-fication how does their selection process compare to your so called pissed-off white guys analogy?

In addition to my previous post regarding the Mississippi special election I have just learned additional information that a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee dirty trick may have swayed the election.
[The Ku Klux Klan was formed as a Democrat terrorist organization. Its mission was to prevent black and whites from voting for the GOP in the south — and indeed anywhere. And their victims were mostly Republicans.] Funny how seldom we hear those pesky details. But facts have never meant anything to Democrats, let alone the thugs at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

CAPTAIN NEGRO-TIVE!?!?!?!
Why not just call me a, "nigger-lover," Paul? You know you want to. I'm sure the republitards are proud to have you as a party spokes-whaterver. But then, you're just one of those "pissed off white guys." One of those guys who thrives in the rectum of the continental watershed.
We've tried it the "republican" way. It has been a disaster. Republicans should sit down and shut up for a while. The real problem is that someone is going to inherit your mess.
Real conservatives are abandoning the party. They don't think McCain is conservative enough. Maybe Cenk is right after all. Your party is self-destructing.
Captain Negative at 3:10PM on May 15th 2008
35. Ha Ha Ha Capt. Neg........
No we have not tried it the Republican Way. What has been passed off the last few years is Political Prostitution by both parties. Compassionate Conservatism is code for: "Lets develop New Big Government Dependency Programs to garner the favor of liberal voters"!!!!!!!
The R.I.N.O. has got to go. The total elimination of earmarks and deficit spending will get the Real Republicans back on track.

36. Susan Estrich: Could Obama Be Another Dukakis?
Monday, May 12, 2008
By Susan Estrich
Susan Estrich, ahh, let me see now . Oh yes now I remember her. All during the Clinton administraction she was a regular on all the talk shows. Her specialty was "defending" the Clintons on anything and from anything. She was a regular. I believe, quite a few of the news networks used her when Lannie Davis , the other Clinton go-fer
was not avaialble to come on screen and the put out the spin for Bill and Hillary. Do you believe that she would say or do anything contrary to the wishes of HRC&co ?

38. Most potential voters realize that Republican economic policies are exactly what the United States does NOT need at the present time. Many are also made nervous by the authoritaranism of the current Supreme Court; granting states power over the people even where the Constitution prohibits the Federal Government from exercising the same powers (the Scalia-Thomas concurring opinion in the recent Kentucky death penalty case borders on the sadistic).
On the other hand, some of these voters will not be voting for Obama, either because of his inexperience, or because of his race. Therefore it's possible that McCain could be elected Presedent while the Republican Congressional delegation gets whacked. In the present Senate the Democrats have an effective 51 to 49 majority. In their best-case scenario they can pick up 11 seats (Alaska, Colorado, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia, although North Carolina and Texas are real stretches), so it it is impossible that they will get the 67 seats needed for a veto-proof Senate but it's possible, although extremely unlikely, that they will have the 60 votes needed to prevent debate on President McCain's proposals.
The House of Representatives, which does not have any supermajority rules of procedure, will also become more hostile for Republicans. They have already lost three seats in supposedly safe districts in by-elections, and will be losing more in November. In my home state of Virginia, for example, the Republican majority is likely to drop from 8:3 to 6:5, a 20% gain for the Democrats. If that trend is replicated throughout the nation, the Dems will be within arms reach of a veto-proof majority there.
If McCain is elected in November, it's guaranteed that he'll be aging fast.

39. God I hope they are wrong. We can't afford another democratic president, nor can we afford their general lack of morale values. I have friends that are democrats, and I would be considered more middle of the road, but unfortunately democrats seem to have a way of appealing to the vast majority, of uneducated, or ignorant people, and they vote. I am not saying that you have to have a college education to be "educated", their are plenty of brilliant minds, that educate themselves, and can look past the democrats pretty packaged smoke screen, but most do not, nor do they take the time to research issues for themselves and go strictly on emotional reactions, rather than factual informed decisions. I am not saying that all republicans are great, far from it, but the more moderate republicans seem to have a better grasp on reality, and also make people take personal responsibility for their bad discussions and irresponsible lifestyles. The democrats want the rest of us who work our butts off to have what we have, to bail out and pay for those who could care less that they are getting money from our hard working backs. I am sick of paying for the LAZY people and social programs, so that they can sit on their very capable duffs, while my husband works 80 hour week in the AF. I do not mind helping out people who truly need it, but our welfare and WIC system is over run by people who just figure, hey, why should I work, or use birth control when the government will make sure others pay for me. It is just SICK! I've had it, and the democrats are the ones generally responsible for bailing out the lazy, and irresponsible. God help us all if Barrack, or Hillary take office. You think we are strapped now? Just wait. Take a look at history people. Yep Bush screwed up royally, no doubt, and I am an Air Force wife, and grew up an AF brat. But he has done many things that are helpful to us, and none of that is highlighted in the liberal run media. Not ever. What else is new. Thus why I generally only watch FOX, they are slightly right biased, no doubt, however, I will say they always have both sides of the argument on almost all issues.

43. "... open the borders to allow the worthless poor to flood in ..." - Bobber
From your tone, it's obvious you're a white, Christian male. Bobber, do you pray to Jesus with that mouth? Isn't one of the basics of being a follower of Jesus Christ to feed and clothe the poor, and help the sick and needy? Or do you only care about the white American Christians in your congregation? Your hypocrisy makes me sick.

45. That's right, Birdboy! I'm already anticipating the ways rethugnicans will try to scare the American sheeple into supporting the neo-CONS.
We can anticipate sabre-rattling and fear-mongering and if that isn't enough... OUTRIGHT ELECTION FRAUD!
We have to remember that republicans didn't really win the last two presidential elections.
The republicans are masters of flag-waving, demagoguery, race-baiting and nationalism.
Republicans are great at, "POLITICKING."
What they suck at is actually governing!
