On Tuesday, May 20th the state of Kentucky has its turn in the 2008 Primary Circus. Yes, Hillary Clinton is still officially challenging Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination, but nobody cares anymore - Obama is going to win the nomination. So is there anything left of interest in the Kentucky Primary? As it turns out, there are plenty of fun political sideshows in the Bluegrass State.Several Democrats are battling for the nomination to challenge Senate Minority Leader, Horrendous Republican Establishment, Bush-Loving, Iraq-War-Supporting Mitch McConnell in the November election. The two main Democratic contenders are Bruce Lunsford and Greg Fischer. Lunsford seems like a nice fellow, he's accomplished, with a CPA and a Law Degree. He brags that he's one of the prominent thoroughbred horse owners in America. Maybe he's a competent civic leader, but apparently he has a history of kissing up to Kentucky Republicans. Meanwhile, Greg Fischer is also a successful businessman. After graduating from college he took a solo backpacking trip around the world. Finally, and maybe most importantly, he's the candidate of choice of Act Blue, the organization that's been so successful in raising money for progressive candidates across the country. So Tuesday night, be on the look out for underdog Greg Fischer to defeat establishment Bruce Lunsford for the right to challenge McConnell in the fall.
In the Kentucky House races, Republicans are competing to take on freshman Democrat John Yarmuth, who was part of the wave of Democratic victories in 2006. The fun part of this is that his 2006 opponent, Anne Northup is running in the Republican primary. Who doesn't love a rematch? Let's root for Northup to win the Republican Primary in the 3rd Congressional District of Kentucky (as long as he wins again in the General Election rematch).
The 4th Congressional District in Kentucky has the misfortune of being represented by Republican Geoff Davis. Come on, does he have to call himself Geoff Davis in this day and age? (Jefferson Davis, one-time Senator from Mississippi and eventual President of the Confederacy, was born in Kentucky.) If Geoff Davis sounds familiar to you, it might be for the controversy he created last month when he called Barack Obama "boy". For some reason, two Republicans are challenging him in the Primary, GE Puckett and Warren Stone. Little is known about GE Puckett. Warren Stone is one of these people whose destiny fulfills the promise of his name - he is a construction contractor. More importantly, he studied Biblical Hebrew at Cincinnati Bible College, so he has the exact qualifications I look for in an elected representative. But seriously, he is kind-of-half-way against the Iraq War. For a Republican, that's good enough for me. Let's hope Warren Stone wins the Republican primary for the 4th Congressional District, then gets his butt handed to him by the Democrat Michael J. Kelley, another Act Blue candidate, in the Fall.
Other fun notes in Kentucky. The Representative from the 6th District is Ben Chandler, grandson of former Kentucky Governor, US Senator and Commissioner of Baseball, "Happy" Chandler. Democrat Heather Ryan will challenge incumbent "Exxon" Ed Whitfield in the November election in Congressional District #1. Ryan is another Act Blue candidate, and a personal victim of Mitch McConnell.
So there's plenty of election excitement this Tuesday in Kentucky, even with Obama already locking up the nomination. Stay tuned! And on Wednesday, tune in to The Young Turks for updates.

16. Right, lizard. You guys should stick with things like flag lapel pins and hands over hearts and phony concern for Obama's grandmother.
Among other Bush-Cheney Junta failures is allowing 9/11 to happen in spite of multiple warnings and years of conducting exercises to deal with hijacked airliners heading for the World Trade Center towers.
Your ilk was so scared that you never asked the right questions. You still haven't.
Imagine if 9/11 had happened on Clinton's watch. He probably would have been hanged.
And if we don't talk about 9-11, we won't have to hear any of your shade tree mechanic stories about your decrepit Porsche.

18. Captain, it probably WAS planned for Clinton's watch since Osama had attacked him so successfully over and over again - I think it had a delay because they were having trouble with the simulators wanting them to LAND a plane.

19. "personal victim of Mitch McConnell," all liberals are "victims" of something or someone. Why accept responsibility for your failings when you can blame someone else!

20. Cenk , It appears you have won the long sought after reward of being the most out of tune idiot
on the blog circuit. You probably could not find
Kentucky on a map if it was the only state shown.
I first thought you were just an out of tune idiot but I realize now that you may be in tune with the likes of Michael Moore, Idi Amin, Hitler and several other notables of like color and perspectives. Lack of knowledge is no crime but failure to suspect anything puts you in a classification all by your lonesome. Your best bet is to purchase a canoe and go home to Turkey. Happy sailing!

21. If I was in a room with Domestic Terrorist William Ayers I would find it very hard not to SPIT IN HIS FACE. Obama calls him a respected figure in Chicago who he is friends with.

22. David,
Your blogg is too gaseous for TYT commenters like myself. The 4th Congressional District in Kentucky...what the crap has that got to do with dumping on Hillary, McCai...McCai (you know who I'm talking about), Obama, Cenk and everyones favorite Bush?
Now, I know you posted this blogg on a Friday, and AOL serves beans to their bloggers on Fridays (like they do at CNN)..but still, please stick with the headliners.
Thank you.

23. Keep wondering --- Why is the process in progress called an election? --- When in reality it is merely a "selection."
Years ago the Financial Times of London referred to the U.S.A. as having a one party system --- The "Business Party." --- The "Business Party" has two subsidiaries, i.e., the "Republicans," and the "Democrats." The Republicans and Democrats compete just like Buick and Pontaic compete. Ergo irrespective of who wins, GM wins.
If "Change" is what we want then lets vote for anything but Repubican or Democrat --- Vote Green, Vote Liberterian, Vote Socialist, Vote Independent --- but just don't vote Republican or Democrat --- all our votes collectively wasted (ignoring the pandits) --- will ensure "Change." Will make it an "Election," and not mere "Selection." --- And, above all let's all those lobbists discover that there are no more IOU's to cash in Washington.

24. 'A lady always knows when to leave the party.' Or so my mother used to say. It's time for Hillary Clinton to take a tip and leave - not the party, of course, but the presidential race....She should save her political future and concede the nomination to Obama. The Democratic Party's chances to win the White House are at stake now, not just her own career. Or her husband's ambitions, if it is he who is pushing her to continue in a race she cannot win.

25. BlindEye, at first I didn't understand you, but then I realized you said Osama, not Obama. I'm sure that will get confusing in the headlines and presidential speeches if Obama were to win.
