For at least twenty years conservative hacks have been coming on TV, yelling and screaming with no substance -- and finally Chris Matthews couldn't take it anymore. He just annihilated this right-wing talk show host on national television. Watch it here:
The full seven minute embarrassing interview can be seen here. I have criticized Matthews plenty in the past. I think he's too chummy with power and often buys into Republican talking points without really challenging their core assumptions. But in this one shining moment, he wiped all that way. If he could challenge the assumptions of the right and the left like this night in and night out, then his show would truly be worth watching.

PS -- Small note of caution for Matthews. he can't let this develop into a shtick. What he did great here wasn't asking the same question 28 times; it was challenging the underlying talking point. The point isn't to embarrass people on national TV, the point is to get beyond the talking points and get to the substance of what they are saying.

The reason why Chris Matthews doesn't interview Rush, Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Neil Bortz or Mark Levin is because they are frightened that they would be exposed for the fakes that they really are. They can sit in their studios and pontificate about anything they want without having to prove squat and their dedicated listeners are usually too stupid to question them. They wouldn't dare go on "Hardball" citing that they would be giving in to Matthews on his grounds, yet they'd insist they'd be more neutral in their studio. Bullcrap! They would be scared silly, because for once in their sorry lives they'd have to show their adoring public that they aren't everything they're made out to be other than a big bag of hot air.

83. Arjay- The Talk-radio conservatives you mentioned compete everyday in the arena of ideas. They usually put liberals and progressives at the head of the line on their shows because they love to debate them and dismantle their liberal talking points by subjecting them to hard, cold reality.
And those on the left, particularly in Congress, are so threatened by this discussion that they want to, ostensibly, shut talk radio down and censor free speech.
Air America was/is horrible. Therefore, liberals, who are always carping about "book banning" are going to do everything in their power to torch (conservative) talk radio, just like a bunch of Socialist/Marxists. Nice.

None of these guys are going to go on Matthews show because they don't need to. Similarly, there's absolutely no reason for Matthews to go on any of their shows. So what you end up with is guys like Kevin James who so desperately want national exposure in hopes of setting up some sort of syndication deal that they're willing to risk ending up in situations like this one.
No one "wins" on Chris Matthews' show (or any of the other shows) unless Chris and his staff want them to win.

90. Dan- I've never piloted an airplane before, but I can tell as a passenger when a takeoff/landing is done well or not. And I could probably point out the reasons it was not. And, if I studied aerotechnology and studied pilots and piloting, I'd probably be able to make suggestions, without ever flying.
