Every serious tanner (someone who sunbathes, not someone working with leather - though many sunbathers are quite leathery) has a specific tanning regimen. Some are so serious that they call it a tanning "regime." (That sounds so overbearing, almost dictatorial.) I took a stroll through New York Central Park's Great Lawn and investigated.

16. I hate laying out in the sun so I have a membership to a tanning salon. I love it, I go for 20 minutes a week and Im done. My skin is soft too not leathery and Im 49 years old.

17. Itchy feet, man! That was the first thing I noticed also! Now 40, was always a sunbather. Got nice and dark, never burned. Just diagnosed with melanoma. STAY OUT OF THE SUN PEOPLE! You'll regret it. Use the many wonderful tanning creames available. If you must be outdoors....wear sunscreen, wish I had.

18. I am a black man who tans all people tan whether
they want to admit it or not. A black man gets a little darker, not much but he does tan, a white man burns brown all that pain to look like a black man. all of that jealous bull crap, and don't like the darker races, white races are a trip!! don't like black people but always trying to be like us.
Take dance lessons to dance like blacks,
take voice lessons to sing like blacks,
tan to look like blacks,
you name it, if it is not normal, for white's to be a certain way
white's will mimmick others to be something that they are not.

20.
I was 1st worried for this piece, due to the slow start w/ the (still) pale & seemingly vacant girl.
It was as though Mr. Rocca had requested she do Calculus.
It picked up by the time 'Itchy Feet' appeared.
I am part NA, & I used to tan soooo darkly. Now that I'm pushing 40 & a troglodyte, I just seem to pink up something fierce.
& not the good Christian-What's-His-Face "fierce", either.

21. MO
After years of burn and peel, I've come to grips with the fact that I'm not meant to look toasted. I camoulflage well in a snowdrift! I just have to suffer the humiliation of day-glo legs in the summertime...and those daggone moths!!!!

23. I'm neither a fast burner nor a tanner, and I get bored easy. So I'm pasty white and I'm OK with that. Makes me stand out in a crowd. Well not in Seattle, where most people have fluorescent tube lights for legs. But we also probably have the most tanning salons per capita???

24. Being pale myself, it's nice to know that I will not get skin cancer and my skin will stay soft for the rest of my life.
Happy skin cancer treatment to all those who worship the sun!

25. I’m generally pale year-round (band-aids are usually invisible on me), but over the summer I’ll develop a light-golden hue, as long as I don’t overdo it. The gym I *occasionally* go to has a tanning booth which I try to avoid even more than the elliptical machine—I’d like to think that my workout sessions actually decrease my chances of getting cancer!
Speaking of “Fake Bake”—which I’ve never used—I have had some success with this Malibu Hemp sunless tanner I found at WalMart. I don’t get high from it, nor do I get a dark tan, BUT it does even out my skin tone and enhance my natural color somewhat (the pina colada smell is a nice touch too!) It was a bad idea to use it on my face, though (painful breakouts) so I still rely on the sun and powdered bronzer for that.

26. I'm normally pale, yet because of my partially Cherokee blood, I can get a decent tan. I freckle on my face and shoulders, though, which I don't mind because I think freckles are cute. However, because I freckle and have red strands in my hair (and therefore have a recessive gene for red hair) and a lot of little moles, I'm at horrendous risk for skin cancer. Therefore, I usually slather on the sunscreen instead of the tanning lotion. :) Risking my life for a tan just ain't worth it.

27. I've never been a big tanner - I've only tanned a few times in my 32 years of life, and have started having moles and further tissue removed since last year. My moles contained precancerous melanoma cells. I now have 2 inch scars on my back, breast, and leg from mole and deeper tissue removal. I will probably have more removed as the years go by. I see a dermatologist every 6 months for mole inspections. Tanning is really not worth ending up with skin cancer; and this is coming from someone whose tanned perhaps a total of 6 times in my life. I use sunless tanning cream ... Malibu Hemp is the best out there and it does not look orange or fake.
