Many Clinton supporters, including Geraldine Ferraro, are now saying that Obama ran a sexist campaign and that Senator Clinton might have lost because of sexism. In the video below, we have their quotes and their charges, and we also discuss whether that idea has any merit:
What do you think? Did Hillary Clinton lose because of sexism? Did her gender help her or hurt her? And was Obama in any way sexist against Clinton?

16. Poor Hilly... It couldn't be her terrible campaign, 50%+ negative ratings or the other 99 good reasons she lost, so it must be sexism. You can always count on the blame-everyone-else factor for dem failures. This is just a tiny hint of what we can expect if Obama loses.

17. If being treated as equal to a man is sexist, then yeah Obama was totally sexist.

19. Because the far left which has completely taken over the democratic party and put it in a position where, again, a seemingly easily defeatable Republican will probably win, defines every political issue through the prism of race and sex, no candidate who is a minority will ever just accept that he or she lost on the merits. Either Obama or Clinton should be double digits ahead of McCain. They have almost exclusively been covered by the likes of you and your cohorts in the most favorable way now for three months. Mccain, the occasional time he has been covered at all, is being made to look like a sick old doddering clone of Bush. Yet, he is still in a virtual tie with either of the Che Gueverras running as Democrats. Who cares if Hillary thinks it was sexism or the tepid way Obama has handled the Reverand Wright anti-American and antisemitic outburts constitutes sexism or racism. These are two unfortunate alternatives which will again have pundits scratching their heads as to why they lose in November to such a vulnerable candidate.

20. If McCain wins, certainly Obama and his team will take the brunt, but not all, of the criticism and recriminations that will follow. He would probably be good for, say, 60 percent. The remainder of 40 percent will be directed at Bill and Hillary Clinton, for continuing a mean and nasty primary race when there was no reason to do so.
They can certainly make the arguments that they are making now -- that it wasn't over, that every vote should count, and on and on. None of it will mean a thing.
Truth Detector at 11:47AM on May 20th 2008
21. Obama has run a racist, sexist, and, as demonstrated by this clip, an ageist campaign. And that sure as hell isn't change that I can believe in.

22. Obama does use the political double talk very well.
He stands there saying "I'm not going to play those kind of games" By saying that, he is playing those kinds of games.
Unlike Bush, Obama has charisma and strong leadership skills. Where will he lead us though?
I have heard information that he is much farther to the left than even Hillary. We need a moderate, not a staunch socialist.
I don't blame people for not liking Bush.
BUT
Lets not run from him so fast that we run off a cliff either.

23. I thought it was funny how Americans suddenly started liking Hillary after she cried on camera.
She wasn't crying for a love of the country, she was crying because she was losing.
Not my idea of presidential material.
I would like to vote FOR a candidate, not AGAINST one for a change.
Scott Schenck at 12:13PM on May 20th 2008
24. In the delusional world of right wing idiots, two left of center candidates like Clinton and Obama are considered to be far left communist radicals. Give me a break! Our right wing corporate masters will have little to fear from either Clinton or Obama.
Over the years, the Democratic party has been obsessed with race and gender while turning it's back on the poor and working classes of all races and both sexes. It is sad that the Democratic party finds itself at this impasse where 55 year old women act like adolescents because their millionare candidate is getting beat by another scion of the upper class.
The real issue in this campaign should not be race or sex but class.

25. Sounds like the howling of a bunch of cats who can’t get in the fish bin. This was not Hillary's time to win, it’s as simple as that and that is the story. If Obama had not mounted a campaign Hillary no doubt would have been A SHOO-IN. However, there was an alternative presented to the people and the people have said they prefer the alternative. All of this in-fighting, name calling, innuendo, baiting and man-against-woman bitching is riding on the back of media hacks and pundits who have to stir up the pot in order to keep their dumb-dumb jobs. The tragedy is that so many of you have bought into these trumped-up so called "issues".
Get your minds (or what's left of them) back on to the REAL issues:
‒ A war that has bankrupted this country
‒ An economy that is being dismantled piece by piece
‒ Banks and lenders that are holding the entire real estate industry hostage
‒ The cost of fuel that is driving hundreds of small to medium truckers out of business, when the trucks stop the economy stops!
‒ A REPUBLICAN NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT WHO ALMOST SINGLE HANDEDLY GAVE A $40 BILLION US MILITARY CONTRACT TO A FOREIGN INDUSTRY. Now instead of customer service jobs being outsourced overseas we will see the continued loss of high tech and high paying jobs. Ask yourselves “Why the media has not raked him over the coals for sending that kind of industry overseas?” Any one who is tempted to vote for McCain should say one word to himself “Boeing”.
Try the same question put forth in a past campaign: ask yourselves, “Are you living better now than you did before the Republican-led “dark ages? Is you job more secure or less secure; is your home GAINING VALUE OR LOSING VALUE; will you even still own a home before the Republicans leave office. Is your income matching your out-go, are the words “savings account” even in your vocabulary? If you fall prey to a serious long-term illness is there enough insurance to cover you or will you have to sell your home to stay alive? Is there a prayer that you might be able to send your children to college or has college become the playground of the rich and the elite? The list goes on and on into infinity but you want to spend you time debating wether or not a candidate was the victim of “sexism” because she lost the nomination. The very question exhibits a detachment from the reality that is affecting the everyday lives of millions of Americans who could care less about sexism or racism but can’t make ends meet because of the Republican-spawned mess.
Instead of being sucked into the media’s self-serving mess (and that includes the owner of this blog) many of you need to do some real thinking and stop being led around by a bunch of people who’s only concern is their own well-being. The big picture is that we desperately need some new leadership in the white House, in congress, on the supreme court. We will never be able to defeat the entrenched powers as long as we fall prey to the kind of idiocy and divisiveness found in these blogs.

26. I'd like to see Obama (or anyone else) call a MALE reporter "sweetie" --- until that happens, it is sexist and condascending. Because it is only used for women. It is not appropriate in a professional setting. I have no problem having my boyfriend call me sweetie, or my close friends, or close work associates -- it is a casual and somewhat intimate remark -- if you do not know me and we are in a professional setting, do not call me sweetie or honey. It drives me nuts when customer service people do this, male or female. And I understand it is not meant condascendingly always, it's meant as a friendly remark (in the context Emmy above put it), I got it. But it does not belong in a professional transaction. And, interesting, that it would never be applied to a man.
In regards to Clinton sexism issue -- I would not say Obama is the culprit so much as the media and the country in general. It is amazing to me that for all the 'equality' that supposedly has been established, sexism is still so entrenched in our society. I have noticed it in my daily life and in my professional life -- it is not as obvious and blunt as in some muslim countries (we don't have to wear a burka) but instead it's more insidious, underneath the veneer of supposed freedom and equality. I have totally been discriminated against in my professional life for being a strongheaded ambitious capable intelligent force-to-be-reckoned-with woman -- qualities admired in a man but too intimidating (to men) to be possessed by a woman, who apparently should still be "sugar and spice and everything nice". So it makes perfect sense that Hillary has been vilified as much as she has having the audacity to vy for the top position.
It is amazing to me that the United States still has not had a female president while India and Pakistan have (and that was decade(s) ago already).
By the way, I am not a woman over 50. I am in my thirties, and I know plenty of young women (and men) who support Hillary.

"....you think the young women of today are not dissatisfied with the fact that they STILL cannot get the same pay for the same work as men?...
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
Elisa, if you know a woman who isn't receiving equal pay for equal work, you should tell her to contact her state government and/or the federal government. They will be happy to help her. It's the law.
I repeat; It's the law! It has been the law for a long time and I know that my state is very responsive to claims of sexism and racism. Very responsive!
Feminists are to be congratulated for having acheived their goal of legal parity. What more can you or I or anyone else expect from the law other than legal parity?

28. I find it very interesting that the one candidate that has had a “FREE PASS” with the media has been McCain.
In addition to McCain getting a free ride, I also want to add that Governor Huckabee in a speech to the NRA said the following after a chair fell on the floor making a loud noise. “Oh, that was Obama ducking because someone was shooting at him”. He later apologized for his inappropriate, idiotic, ridiculous remark. Huckabee unlike bloggers should and must know better.
It is true Barack Obama called a female reporter “sweetie”, which he later called her and apologized to her. She was not available and he left her a voice mail, we all had an opportunity to hear that apology because it was played on the news.
Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have fought a very tough campaign, however, in my personal opinion I believe Hillary played the game a tad dirtier than her opponent did.
I am a white women who turned 51 five months ago, I was always a Clinton supporter especially Bill Clinton. I wanted very much to support Hillary in this campaign, however as I watched her and the things she said I could not continue to support her. I found her comment about lifetime experience between her and McCain vs. Obama with nothing but a speech a complete and total lack of class as well as a huge stab to her Party. My disappointment and dismay in her behavior completely turned me off.
However, should Hillary Clinton somehow pull of the miracle of the century, I am ready to support the Democratic Party and vote for her. I know beyond a shadow of doubt that the Democratic Party has the two most qualified candidates.
Furthermore, I find it extremely hard to believe that any true Democrat will turn their back on their party and accept more of the same old Bush policies and vote for McCain come November.
Therefore, Lulu if you need any help with making up your mind I would love to help you out and all those who are still bit confused.
