Many Clinton supporters, including Geraldine Ferraro, are now saying that Obama ran a sexist campaign and that Senator Clinton might have lost because of sexism. In the video below, we have their quotes and their charges, and we also discuss whether that idea has any merit:
What do you think? Did Hillary Clinton lose because of sexism? Did her gender help her or hurt her? And was Obama in any way sexist against Clinton?

31. C'mon, Cenk, where's the post to my reply to R2D2, or was it M2D5? Too conservative for this board?

32. TO Emmy 6. How has Obama been sexist? Seriously, I am not seeing it, and I'm a woman who has personally experienced some pretty nasty sexism, having worked in a video game store with a largely male customer base. I've been abused by a former boyfriend, so I'm definitely pretty cautious around men. I do not doubt that Hillary has experienced sexism during this race, but it's not coming from Obama

34. Hey, Okane, now I see why they call you insane. You have the audacity (nice overused word, see I can use it too) to actually support your position with facts.
The last three days while driving through Michigan I had the pleasure of listening to mind numbing Air America programming. It was pure comic relief. These are the best the liberals have to offer. Amazing. Actually, to be honest, quite embarrassing. I really did not know the depths to which the liberals would go to sell their souls to get to the white house. Just plain crazy. Each of these so called experts just mercillessly bad mouthed Hillary. All of a sudden they have come to the conclusion that she is a lying, cheating, coniving bitch. Not only are these all good liberal qualities but really no revalation as we conservatives have known this for some time now.
Let me count the ways these morons, one after another, brought hypocrisy to a new level.
They started out by saying that Bush and all of his friends are elitist, blah blah blah, and then the next second they went into a tirade about the racist W Viginia white voters all being dumb and uneducated because they voted for Hillary. Their proof of racism was that they in fact let Hillary win the state. Of course they could not comment on what it meant that black voters vote for Obama at a greater than 90% clip. That of course is not racism. Never mind that there is no more uneducated group in the country than blacks. That fact or argument was never broached. The premise was that all these legions of black voters were well informed and the whites were ignorant and not informed or else they too would have seen the misgivings of their ways.
Of course anytime they were confronted with any facts, they could not answer them. They sounded like the average poster here. And now I get where all the liberals on here keep referring to my arguments as repub talking points. Now I know what that means. If they do not have an answer they just accuse you of spewing talking points. And of course all the lemming follow suit. I guess that is why they call you insane, Okane. No answer, spew some nonsense.
Then, amazingly, they keep referring to Obama as a black man. Hello, he is half white. Never mind that if it wasnt for the white people in his life, who are as he puts it, typical white people, (what would have happened to McCain if he had uttered typical black people, but I digress) he would be dead or in a gutter somewhere. Or the fact that I was lead to believe it was politically incorrect to refer to someone as black. If ever the term African american fit, it would be in his case. He is african and american after all. I guess it just doesnt sound as attractive somehow. Then they kept droaning on and on about how Hussein Obama is a Christian and they know this to be fact. Actually, his spiritual advisor is a liberation theologian or more precisely a black liberation theologian. If you do not know what that is then you have no business supporting Osama as Ted Kennedy referred to him. (Cenk, I am surprised you missed that little bit of commentary. First he calls him Osama bin Laden and recovers quickly and call him Osama Obama. Where has the liberal media been on that one). Black Liberation theology is a Marxist, repulsive kill whitey and his god type of belief system wherein they believe the state must be taken over. Think Che Guevara. Socialist revolution. Reverend Wright states that this is what he preaches and has done so since the 60's. Nonetheless, Obama is a Christian because that is what they want him to be. Nevermind the 20 years of indoctrination. nevermind that Barrack used to go by Barry until wrights lessons began. nevermind that he threw his grandmother under the bus all the while failing to do so with Wright.
I could go on but I must admit it is truly eye opening. And the best part of all that is to think Cenk was not even smart enough to get or keep a show on that station. Crazy indeed but not surprising. Now, how about those talking points. Ps. I havent been back to this hack blog in a few months but I see Captain Negative is still a moron. General women behavior. What is that? Great argument. Maybe thats why you are not married and still live in your mothers basement.

Now lulu calm down. You should know that this site, may not always be friendly to those on the "right" It nevertheless it does post stuff from those individuals. You may be just missing a step.
I know they have changed the submitting step by adding a check in the e-mail confirmation to open the shortcut to respond. After all I am just dying to hear you "conservative" response to my post in regards to your behavior.

38. Unity is word loved by democrats but not often applied. This lack of commonality is seen both by their typecasting of the average american, and the fact that more than any other party, the democrats have made these identity politics an industry and way of life.
They have segregated and classified the people. To them, we are not first and foremost americans, but rather pieces that fit in seperate categories of color, gender, or sexuality.
When these classifications are used to subordinate all others, it's not surprising to see charges of sexism, racism, whatever-ism, dominate the discussion.
Democratic chickens have definitely come home to roost in this election year. And it's about damn time.

Yeah, lulu -- let's cut off our nose to spite our face. Better Obama than McBush! Come on. The focus in the end should be on the issues. I'm a Hillary supporter, but I will vote Obama if he's the democratic nominee. Do you really want a reversal of Roe v. Wade and an escalation of the war situation all the way into Iran? Do you really want a continuation of the Bush regime? Well, ok, in that case...
Ken -- better that than an ultra-right wing nut job! McCain = four more years of what we already got or worse. God or somebody help us.

I've done that, and I still don't see the sexism. Maybe it's because I am young and still have an open mind about things, and I don't read meaning into things because I want to hear something bad in what the person is saying.
As for the "flipping off," my own father scratches his face like that sometimes, when he's not really thinking about what he is doing. Someone who isn't quite used to being onstage or being on national television probably hasn't yet learned to watch every single motion, in case it might come across as being lewd. And hey, at least Obama didn't feel the need to "adjust himself," as I've seen a couple people do onstage when they don't think anyone is watching them.

41. I will be crying as I cast my vote for Obama in November, but I will do it. Why? Because I am not an emotional child! I care more about the troops that won't be coming home (under McCain) and the economy and the Supreme Court Judges, than my own "feelings." Any democrat is better than that republican!
And by the way......Educated, professional, self-loving women don't like being called sweetie, by anyone other than their father or partner. I wish one of my collegues would call me sweetie, baby, babe, darling, hon or the like!
Hillary 08!

42. I love how the conservatives/republicans on here lambast democrats (and the word "liberal" being a dirty word) accusing them of the exact qualities that the Republicans are guilty of most of all: lying, cheating, conniving bitches or (more often than not) bastards. It is a fact that Bush has lied, cheated and connived, and more so, his cronies (Dick & Co). They should all be impeached.
Claiming democrats segregate, classify, subordinate others. As if Republicans are for unity and equality? Yeah, that's why we now have a wider gap than ever between the richest of the rich and the poor in this country. That's why Republicans don't want any taxes -- god forbid they have to share with others and chip in for the good of all. (Of course, they have no problem paying billions to the war in Iraq.)
Furthermore, the Democratic party is hardly left-wing. In true perspective, both parties are right-wing. It's just a matter of degree -- extreme selfish all-for-me-and-none-for-all corrupt and hypocritical "conservative" Republicans or more centered not quite as selfish corrupt and hypocritical Democrats.
Excerpted definitions of "liberal" in Merriam-Webster dictionary: "marked by generosity", "openhanded", "given or provided in a generous and openhanded way", "broadminded", "free from restraint", "a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties"
Yes, I am a liberal!

43. Why would you ever believe that there was any sexism in this campaign? Calling Hillary a B---- certainly doesn't qualify, and stating that the only reason she was elected senator was because people felt sorry for her because her husband cheated on her, and these silly little nutcracker toys, and commenting about her laugh (oh excuse me, her cackle), and making fun of her pantsuits (I even heard one male talking head one night state that her necklace looked like a snake choking her), and accusing her of wanting to commit crib death on Obama and pimping out her daughter, and oh yes, how many times she "whined" whenever things did not go her way and cried at others, and complained about treatment by debate announcers (and yet you all let Obama get away with complaints that had no merit).
Oh Lord, I'm too tired to go on. As a woman of a certain age who is white and under-educated (I don't have my doctorate, yet), I have experienced more than my share of male bs, and your question reeks of it. Of course she experienced unending sexism from all of you male talking heads (bloggers qualify). I finally realized, after talking with other sad, pathetic women, that you are all afraid of her. Chris Matthews is a typical example. The man absolutely hates her (and has said so), and yet when speaking to her face to face, he simpers like a whipped noodle. FEAR. And because of the fear you all have expressed so boldly and manly and strongly by beating up on her behind her back, we will not have the best person we ever could have had for President of the United States. The media did its best to defeat her. I feel sorry for this country that the media is running it.

44. First of all, a correction: Clinton hasn't "lost" yet, though it certainly looks like she's going to.
But she's losing because apparently fewer people, or fewer people in the "right" places (like Idaho caucuses, as opposed to "wrong" places like Florida and Michigan primaries), voted for her than voted for Obama.
*Why* did fewer people vote for her? Lots of reasons. "Sexist attacks" from Obama and/or his "camp" were probably not a major factor, mostly because there haven't been any that I can recall. Obama's mostly free ride from much of the media might have had a lot more to do with it. And the reason for that might have more to do with the *media*'s "Clinton fatigue" than that of the voters. Last I checked, "fatigue" with peace and prosperity doesn't tend to swing a whole lot of votes.
And am I the only one who wonders how many of those voters in places like the Idaho caucuses were, uh, less than committed Democrats? Even before McCain locked up the GOP nomination, I seem to recall reports of a whole lot of Republicans "dissatisfied" with their choices, and perhaps more to the point, dismayed about what they saw as their bleak prospects for the fall no matter who they nominated. Might some of them (in "open" states) conceivably have, decided that the best way to, uh, improve those prospects, whoever their own party ended up nominating, might lie on the Democratic side of things? Now I could imagine some of those people concluding that Hillary would be the weaker Dem candidate in the fall, and others concluding that Obama would. (I could, and did, before it got down to a two or even three-person race, raise several "electability" arguments against both.) But now we've got "Boy Genius"-in-chief Karl Rove himself (Wall Street Journal Op-Ed last week) projecting actual electoral votes and finding
Hillary a lot stronger against McCain than Obama is.
As for sexism (among voters) per se, sure, there are a lot of people, and would be a lot more in the fall, who wouldn't vote for Hillary in the fall because she's a woman. And a lot more than that who wouldn't vote for her because she's "That Woman." But sadly, I suspect there are still more who, though they'll never admit it to a pollster (though apparently some in WV came close), and/or will find some other "reason" for it, won't vote for a "person of color" no matter who or what else s/he is. And to paraphrase Michele Obama (or rather what some people thought she said), that thought really does make me less than proud of my country.
dr jay at 5:53PM on May 20th 2008
45. Do anyone expects Hillary's supporters to unite behind Obama after the way Hillary has been treated by the far left Liberals and the media, it has goes far beyond sexism. It is a little too late.
