Alien Sighting Hyped on 'Larry King Live'
Every time we channel surf past Larry King, he's asking someone something like, "So, string beans really cause cancer, huh?" And then not challenging their crackpot theory at all, except by inviting someone equally daffy to half-heartedly beg to differ. The only person we've seen King really press is Denise Richards, whom he scolded for cursing on her TV show. But this interview with a man claiming to have recorded an alien out his window five years ago lacks even more journalistic integrity than most.
First of all, we aren't allowed to see the video, because "scientists" (ah, yes, them) asked the alien-filmer, Stan Romanek, to keep it secret. But a skeptic who did see it put together an imitation, now on YouTube for $90.
So, why is Romanek getting national news attention? (He's on the front page of CNN.com today.)
All the hyped alien visit and abduction accounts to date have been soundly disproved. Scientists (as opposed to "scientists") have every interest in making contact with extraterrestrials, and most believe there are some out there (although not in Nebraska).
In fact, many groups are offering huge amounts of money to anyone who can prove paranormal activity. (Our favorite, magician James Randi, is offering anyone with actual proof a million dollars.) So why doesn't Stan Romanek take the Randi Challenge rather than fielding softballs from Larry King?
Oh, right.

1. Why is it that these sightings are all corroborated with lousy photos?
Oooh, we're not alone. ET phone home.

2. This just proves it is time for Larry King to retire. I still tune in to see who his guest is, but lately it has been this stuff you mentioned, and Star Jones and the American Idol winners! Much like Barbara Walters (who also used to interview interesting people) it is time to go, Larry.
And, hey, you can write a tell all book like Barbara.

3. So, I was reading this newspaper article discussing the half-elven Mr. Spock on Star Trek. You know, the Vulcans from Vulcan, that orbits around the star Betelgese. Or is it Beetlejuice? You know, one of the stars in the belt of Orion. Or is it Lothl'orion, where the elves from Middle earth are from? Hm. Somebody has been throwing earthers a lot of hints that they haven't been catching. :>)

4. This guy has even been abducted by aliens Ada. And as far as proof as to the existence of aliens all one needs to do is look at Egypt and Mexico.
Pyramids in these two countries were built by space travelers as navigational beacons. This was well known in the 1970's. Atlantis, now a lost continent, was well known as a landing base for space travelers.
And it's well known and documented in the 70's that aliens brought humans to earth and even snatch a few of us up from time to time to see how well we're evolving. Thankfully, they always return these people.
The 1970's...it's almost embarrassing to have to admit living through that decade.

5. It looked like Karl Rove.
Thing about, "The Amazing Randi" and "The Amazing Kreskin" is that they offer one million dollar rewards (Randi for proof of psychic phenomena and Kreskin for proof of hypnosis) but you have to prove it to their satisfaction. That isn't possible. They are rewards which will never be collected. Good publicity. No risk.
Larry King looks a bit like an alien, himself.
Captain Negative at 4:59PM on Jun 2nd 2008
6. Captain,
You think that picture looked like Rove? Hmm...maybe. But those little squinty eyeballs, pale complexion....kinda looks like Ada.
Willet at 5:29PM on Jun 2nd 2008
7. Leave it to Capt. Whiny to bring Rove or Bush into a fluff piece on an alien sighting. Idiot
Cap Whiny at 6:02PM on Jun 2nd 2008
8. I can't believe CNN is wasting time with this sort of garbage.
Mike Luongo at 6:34PM on Jun 2nd 2008
9. Ya know...put a some glasses and pair of suspenders on that thing and...hmmm
bob at 6:39PM on Jun 2nd 2008
10. What are you doing, "Cap Whiny?"
You're whining about Captain Negative. AGAIN.
Get a life.

11. As the final word on Unidentified Flying Objects and aliens are concerned, this is from a former Air Force Captain who was in charge of Project Blue Book: "There have been many sightings by too many credible witnesses of incredible things, to think they don't exist." You "educated" snobs who scoff at all references to UFO's have never read accounts by commercial and military pilots who have seen UFO's and even chased them with jet fighters. Sure there are lots of kooks and nuts who make up stories, but many unexplained incidences of sightings are locked away in Air Force records. If you think we are the only beings in the entire vastness of space, and also the most advanced and intelligent; you are the kooks and nuts that you take pleasure is laughing at.
Dale Holly at 9:09PM on Jun 2nd 2008
12. Dale, I'll remain a kook and nut untli you or someone else can provide better proof of UFOs. Speculation of other beings in the universe is a fiction until proven.

13. Larry ever the youngster ... time to take off, and play with your kids.
LuLu at 6:19AM on Jun 3rd 2008
14. Yeesh.
And those goobers at MUFON continue to wonder why normal people refuse to take them seriously...
How silly.

15. There are plenty more documented UFO videos that could have been showcased, plenty not "soundly disproved" this one is a bit weird. I wonder if Mr. King is getting bored with his own show.
In fact I seem to recall a news clip of a guy who claimed he could summon UFOs, they interviewed him and he did his UFO praying thing and a light actually showed up in the sky. I'd think it was fake if it were on a news station. I'll see if I can't find that one. It's far more interesting.
